lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. I have read all the details given. She does seem to have multiple problems. For swelling in the body there many reasons like uncontrolled hypothyroidism (with high TSH), high BP, kidney related issues, so without knowing the exact details it is difficult to give any opinion. My suggestion is please send following details of her: TSH, T4 & T3 levels, BP readings, blood glucose levels (both fasting and after food) and CBC (complete blood cell count) and lipid profile. Plus her weight, height whether she does any exercise (walking) and current medications with dosages. It is better if you come in a private conversation then I will be able to guide specifically and even prescribe the medications. Even to advise you I need to know all the details. Thanks.

3 days before my report for t3 t4 ad tsh and blood sugar came and it was normal. Then why my full body is sweeting very much .from past few days my body is sweeting at large level .I don't know what to do. My date of joining in Indian coastguard is 19 Aug. Please help me .I am also taking hyperhidrosis medicine from jiva ayurveda clinic but seen no improvement.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. For hyperhydrosis there is really no specific treatment. Multiple remedies are recommended without any substantial success. You may continue the current treatment as in modern medicine there is really no drug. Hyperhydrosis is not any disease, it is just excess sweating. One needs to get used to it. Thanks.

My wife suffering to thyroid and we are met many doctors but they are not controlled thyroid. every time report are updown. Pls assist me.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Your information is very general, so difficult to comment. There is no mention whether she has hypo or hyperthyroidism. It is better if full details are mentioned. Please understand whichever thyroid condition it may be, treatment has to be continued for lifetime. Particularly in hypothyroidism she has to take prescribed amount of levothyroxine tablets daily without fail for her lifetime. If dosage is frequently altered or drug is stopped in between, then TSH levels will go up. All the symptoms reappear. Plus all the instructions regarding taking of the tablet that is - early morning on empty stomach, nothing there after for 1 to 1 and half hour, should be followed. She has to restrict her diet. Avoid soy beans, soy containing products and use whole grain flour for roti and chapati. Stop taking foods made from maida. If you have any doubts please come back. It is better if you come in a private conversation with all details like TSH, T4 & T3 levels and current dosage, her weight and height and symptoms if any, then I will be able to guide specifically and help in controlling the condition. Thanks.

Sir, I am suffering from thyroid hypothyroidism for 8 years taking thyronorm 150 mg but now I have problem in my both legs and joint. I use tablet dexona and cetrizine as I have some problem of asthma and itching since 8 years. I also have high BP taking AGENAL AT 1 daily .I also feel problem in nerves. TSH level also increased sussagest some medicines. Thanks.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. When on treatment with thyroxine tablets taking adequate dose, TSH should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L, then only all the symptoms are in check. High TSH level means hypothyroidism is not in control. Secondly if you are on Dexona (for what reason is not clear), that can also upset the control. For asthma there are inhalers which offer better relief. Joint and muscle pains can be due to uncontrolled hypothyroidism. Plus your weight also is much higher with a BMI of 29.16 kgs showing obesity. This could be due to uncontrolled hypothyroidism. You have not mentioned the BP readings. From the info given it looks like a re - look has to be given to the total treatment, diet, exercise and various medications being taken. Thanks.

My wife aged 58 years is suffering from high sugar level i.e. Both F and PP. Please suggest home remedy and medicine (any) to control the level and bring it to min. Shall be grateful to Docs.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. For controlling high blood glucose levels there are a number of drugs, I can suggest a few of those. However, unless all the details are known like FBG, PP blood glucose levels, HbA1c%, weight and height of the patient, dietary pattern and extent of daily exercise, it is not possible to suggest any drug. It is also necessary to know if there is any current treatment and its dosage. I suggest please come in a private consultation with all the above details, then I will be guide her through appropriate treatment and help control the glucose levels. In the mean time following precautions need to be taken: 1) Avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, bakery items, colas and all foods made out of maida. 2) Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits (100 g a day), 3) Exercise daily for at least 1 hour, brisk walking is an excellent option. & try and maintain near normal weight. I await your response. Thanks.

I have diabetes for the last 15 years. From last 10 days I am feeling pain in my stomach on the right side which increases to some extent sometimes but is bearable. I have lesser urination with smell. I also feel weakness. I am attaching the reports and the prescribed medicines for you reference. Kindly suggest me the medication.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. In this communication there is no facility to upload the reports. So nothing can be seen. Only in private consultations one can do that. You could have written the details. Sometimes if diabetes is unconytrolled, there can be many concurrent problems. When one has well controlled diabetes FBG should be <100 mg, PP 160 to 170 mg & HbA1c% <6.8. Then most of the problems are in check. If you wish to come in a private conversation then give following details: current fasting, PP & HbA1c%, medication with dosage, dietary pattern and extent of daily exercise, then I will be able to guide. Thanks.

Is thyroid and diabetics interrelated? TSH IS >150 WHEREAS T3 AND t4 ARE 0.27 and 23.8 what is the treatment suggested?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Thanks for the query. Diabetes and hypothyroidism are not inter related. They are separate diseases. TSH >150 mU/L is too high. This means there is severe hypothyroidism. Immediate treatment with levothyroxine is needed. Dosage has to be decided based on patients weight, height, TSH level and T4 levels. Plus patient has to avoid soy beans, soy containing products, increase the intake of green leafy vegetables and fruits, exercise daily so as to maintain near normal weight. Thanks.

Hi! My Mother was suffering last 6-7 years in Thyroid and migraine problem, I was try lots of medicine and checkup but still not improve so please kindly suggest for better option or Doctor as soon as possible.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. For hypothyroidism there is only one medication and that is adequate dose of Levothyroxine to be taken daily early morning on empty stomach. If TSH is maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L then most of the symptoms of hypothyroidism are in check. As regards migrane it is a difficult condition to treat. Multiple remedies have to be tried, plus precaution should be taken to avoid known triggers. Thanks.

How can I prevent diabetic with out taking medicine using only food types? Is it possible? Pls note already I am using medicine daily.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Hello, Thanks for the query. T2 DM is a preventable disease, only when a person is in a prediabetic state. At that point if weight is controlled, regular exercise is done, proper diet is taken and sweets are restricted, junk food is avoided and one refrains from colas, alcohol and smoking, then it is possible to remain free from diabetes. However, once diabetes develops then it impossible to control the condition only by diet and exercise. Proper medications are required to achieve desired low glucose levels. Thanks.

She has very high type -1 diabetes and it is not controlling in any way. She is now taking 2 doses of Insulin of 15 units each. On checkup according to reports her body is not creating insulin so if any physical injury is there it is not getting cured due to high diabetes.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. For T1 diabetes, only treatment is insulin as in these patients there is literally no insulin produced. So if 15 units twice a day is not helping control, then dose may have to be increased or a prandial (with lunch) insulin may have to be added. Plus one has to look at the diet pattern and exercise too. A close co-ordination between the patient and care providing doctor has to be there. Thanks.

Sir mujhe rights chest me swelling tha jiska hamme operation karwaya biopsy test me tuberculosis abscess nikla uske bad ham anti tuberculosis tablets khana start kiya one month se ab waha swelling kuch kam hua hai lekin body ka weight badh gaya hai body me energy ban nahi pa raha kamjori jaisa lagta hai kya kare jis se body me energy aye.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. You have to continue the anti TB treatment till it is completely cured, which may be 6 to 9 months. To reduce general weakness take extra proteis in your day to day diet. If you can consume eggs then add 3 eggs per day (either boilde or fried), take a balanced diet, increase intake of green leafy vegetables and salads. Also exercise regularly to build muscle strength. Plus get your blood checked to see if you have anemia and also diabetes. Thanks.

I am having diabetes for the last 15 years. From the past 15 days I am having pain in my stomach on a regular basis which sometimes increases to some extent but is bearable. Urination is less comparatively with smell. I am also feeling weakness. My sugar level on 14/06/17 was Fasting-293, PP-383 again on 20/06/17 it was Fasting-227, PP-414. Also other test conducted on 14/06/17 had these reports: ALT/SGPT - 40 ALBUMIN/GLOBULIN - 0.9 SERUM BLOOD UREA NITROGEN - 25 CREATININE - 1.64 BUN/create RATIO - 15.24 URIC ACID SERUM - 7.5 URINE GLUCOSE - DETECTED EPITHELIAL CELLS IN urine - 5-7 CURRENT MEDICATION: 1. glyciphage G2 FORTE 1GM 2. TENGLYN 20 3. NEPHROSAVE 4. FOXSTAT 40 MG 5. LASIX 40 MG 6. ZIFI 200 7. CANDIFORCE 200 8. COBADEX CZS D RISE 60K - 1 CAP WEEKLY.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. The main reason for weakness is uncontrolled diabetes. The reported levels are too high. With high blood levels a lot of glucose is lost in the urine, which is the main reason for tired feeling. You may also be having some urinary infection (?) and creatinine is also a bit high. All this can be a consequence of uncontrolled diabetes. There is no mention about BP readings, Lipid profile and weight and height. Plus do you exercise daily? If yes what is the time spent? Plus your dietary intake also needs to be looked at. Plus also inform HbA1c%. My suggestion is that present anti-diabetic treatment is very inadequate, needs to be improved. That can improve your over all health. If you are keen please come in a private conversation with all details asked above, then I will be able to guide. Or else consult your local personal doctor and upgrade the treatment. But that is essential. Thanks.

My mother's TSH is 1.98 but T4 is 15.5. What should I do? She takes Thyrox 75 mg daily. She is 64 and diabetic but diabetes is under control.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. With TSH value 1.98 mU/L and T4 15.5 ng, it appears her present dosage is a bit higher than required. Because if T4 levels go up, there can be symptoms of excess thyroxine. So there is a need for dose reduction. You can talk to her physician regarding this. Thanks.

I am a 37 years old female. My thyroid levels are 4.23. Is that I am suffering from thyroid. I am also having pain in my lower abdominal. Can you advise me on the issue.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Hello, Thanks for the query. TSH 4.23 mU/L is normal there is no problem with thyroid gland. However, you seem to be excess body weight with a BMI of 35.1 kgs/M2. This can be a measure cause of may other issues. You need to cut down the weight. Thanks.

I am diabetic. My random blood sugar level is 280 within half n hour of having breakfast. Can it be lower within 2 hours or it can be higher than that?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. When food is taken, it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours for that food to be broken down to glucose. That is why PP blood glucose level is asked to be taken after 2 hours. So it will be higher than that shown just after half an hour. The mentioned levels are too high, can cause serious problems. Thanks.

I have got my thyroid tests done. T3 & t4 are normal but tsh is quite high. Which medicines should I start?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. High TSh (above 10 mU/L) suggests one has hypothyroidism. This needs to be treated with synthetic thyroid hormone in adequate dose. Thanks.

My 32 year old son suffering from diabetes since 3 years. Sugar not came normal range from starting. All remedies and afferds failed. Ayurvedic and alophaty both treatments are running but still sugar not in normal range. What should I do.?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Hello, Thanks for your query. It very unlikely that all efforts to control blood glucose would fail. Since there is no mention about current blood glucose levels, HbA1c%, drugs with dosage and also about diet and exercise, it is very difficult to comment anything. If you and your son are keen on getting appropriate treatment then please come back with following details: Fasting, PP glucose lvels, HbA1c%, weight, height, present drugs with dosage, dietary pattern and extent of daily exercise. Then based on those details I will be able to give specific guidamce. Thanks.
