I have glaucoma in my eye's past 9 yeas and lost my side vision. I am 40 year old any treatment for this?

MD - Ophthalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist,
For glaucoma once field loss is thrrr , this cannot be recovered. Treatment depends on various factors like intra ocular pressure, disc status snd visual fields. In early stages it would be medical therapy (eye drops) , in late stages it eould be surgery. Most important thing to note is aim of treatment is to preserve the present vision and visual fields and one should regularly consult your ophthslmologist to look into abovee factors.

My friend had an Eye trauma. Is there any type of surgery that can allow someone to close their eye and blink normally after a serious eye accident?

MBBS, MS - Ophthalmology

It is more likely that your friend has sustained some nerve damage which supplies to eyes which is preventing him/her from blinking the eyes. For this you may consult a neuro-ophthalmologist in your vicinity for further management depending upon the power eyelid muscles. But as such there is no surgery for regain blinking movement of eye.

Hello. Dear there is nothing as such that will reduce your eyes number. Please do not be misguided by this. Better just get your eye massage done so that internal muscles gets toned up and your numbers will be not increasing anymore. And may be by that. Your number may reduce. But please don't use any such eye drops. Take care.)

I have red eyes and migraine also. I took tablets and consulted so many. But nothing happened. Could you please solve my problem?

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
I have red eyes and migraine also. I took tablets and consulted so many. But nothing happened.
Could you please solve...
Hello lybrate-user. Sorry about your eye problem. Redness of the eye is one of the most prevalent problems observed. Redness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1) allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. It occurs with symptoms of pricking, itching, irritation, watering, foreign body sensation and discomfort. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. Thus, eye hygiene remains the principal modality of treatment along with eye drops as a supplement. (2) infectious conjunctivitis: this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. There may occur associated pain and sensation of itching, pricking, watering and discomfort. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3) foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles (more common with people working in the iron industry) the solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist at the clinic because it would require immediate removal from the eye and appropriate therapy. (4) raised eye pressure: this is a condition known as glaucoma. It is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral (occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5) inflammation of the covering layers of the eyeball. This is known as" uveitis" it is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. (6) increased blood pressure. This has known to cause redness which is also known as sub-conjunctival hemorrhage. The redness in this case tends to be deep dark and usually occurs only in one portion of the eye. In this regard, a complete ophthalmic evaluation and a systemic evaluation is warranted. From the symptoms described by you, it seems more likely to be a case of allergy. Maintaining the precautions and hygiene that I mentioned should probably work well for you. You could also use a lubricant eye drop along with an anti-histamine eye drop. (3-4 times daily) also, you might require a complete eye evaluation in order to rule out other causes. Your migraine may/may not be related to the eye redness. At times, migraine is precipitated by bright sunlight or dust (pollution). This can also cause redness of the eyes which is also known as allergy of the eyes. Thus, avoiding the triggers for your migraine may help in solving the problem of red eyes as well. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care,

There is no such medicine that can reduce the number of your glasses. Over years your refraction can change but it can vanish.

Computer eye strain is known as computer vision syndrome follow the advice given below. 1. Take a break-use 20-20 rule, take a break for 20 second after working in computer for 20 minutes and look at some thing 20 feet away. 2. Blink frequently to prevent dryness of eyes 3. Use of computer glass- it optimises your eye sight when you are looking at digital screen and helps to decrease glare 4. Keep your monitor bright- this decreases flicker 5. Use proper lighting like incandescent light 6. Check position of monitor- monitor should be placed 4-5 inches below eye level and 20-28 inches from eyes 7. Adjust, screen resolution 8. Minimise glare- clean monitor regularly to remove dust and place an anti glare screen 9. Try massage or eye cupping- massaging the area around the eye will relax eye muscle. Rub your hands together to create friction and warmth, then gently cup your palm over the closed eye and rest them 10.
