Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day.

Knee & Joint Pain - Ayurvedic Treatment For It!

Gone are the days when mostly septuagenarians complained of joint and knee pain. The problem today has become common among all age groups. Knee or joint pain at any stage of life is painful, however the health problem striking early on is scary as one just dreads of living with it in the so many years to come.

Ayurveda is a very old system of medicine, which originated in India. Using herbs found in nature to cure various illnesses, knee pain and joint pain can also be permanently cured with this method indigenous to India. Arthritis and Joint pain are among the most prevalent problems faced by adults, mostly old people. As per ayurveda, 'vata dosha' Is responsible for joint and knee pain.

Here are some common Ayurvedic remedies, which help reduce knee pain:

  1. Ashwagandha: Ashwagandha is medically known as Withania Somnifera. In the West, Ashwagandha is popularly known as Winter Cherry. Also, it has a lot of therapeutic properties, which include reducing joint pains.
  2. Banyan: The Banyan tree's medical name is Ficus Benghalensis. It has a sap very similar to the form of rubber known as latex is derived from the Banyan tree. The Banyan tree's sap is externally applied over the joints and the pain usually disappears after a few regular applications.
  3. Garlic: The medical name for garlic is allium sativum. Five to six cloves eaten everyday has proved to reduce knee pains.
  4. Ginger: Ginger is biologically called Zingiber Officinale. These can be easily included in your diet and go a long way in curbing knee pain.

The following are some ayurvedic home remedies that can be utilized to treat joint pain:

  1. Hot & Cold Compress: Cold and hot compresses can be utilized to ease your joint pain effectively. Heat compression decreases the pain, increases the blood circulation and relaxes the swollen joints and muscles. On the other hand, cold therapy lessens the inflammation of the affected joint. Place hot and cold towel alternatively on the affected area to achieve immediate relief from persistent pain.
  2. Turmeric: Add a pinch of turmeric and a teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink this solution on a regular basis for a week. Turmeric contains anti inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which makes it an excellent remedy for treating joint pains.
  3. Healthy diet: A balanced diet that comprises a lot of green leafy vegetables and fresh seasonal fruits is good for your joints. The uncontrolled intake of fatty food, dairy products, and high sodium diet must be avoided in order to avoid arthritis and joint pain.Prevention is better than cure and in order to follow that it is always beneficial to get your complete body check up done from time to time. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ayurveda.

Hip Replacement - What To Expect From It?

MBBS, MS - Orthopaedics, DNB - Orthopedics
Orthopedist, Pune
Hip Replacement - What To Expect From It?

Hip replacement surgery is a method wherein a defective hip joint is removed and replaced with an artificial hip joint. This procedure is only opted for after all the other treatments have failed to yield the desired effects. Hip replacement surgery removes damaged or diseased parts of a hip joint and replaces them with new, man-made parts. The goals of this surgery are to:

  • Relieve pain

  • Help the hip joint work better

  • Improve walking and other movements.

Who Should Have Hip Replacement Surgery?

The most common reason for hip replacement is osteoarthritis in the hip joint. Your doctor might also suggest this surgery if you have:

  1. Rheumatoid arthritis (a disease that causes joint pain, stiffness, and swelling)

  2. Osteonecrosis (a disease that causes the bone in joints to die)

  3. Injury of the hip joint

  4. Bone tumors that break down the hip joint.

Your doctor will likely suggest other treatments first, including:

  1. Walking aids, such as a cane

  2. An exercise program

  3. Physical therapy

  4. Medications.

These treatments may decrease hip pain and improve function. Sometimes the pain remains and makes daily activities hard to do. In this case, your doctor may order an x ray to look at the damage to the joint. If the x ray shows damage and your hip joint hurts, you may need a hip replacement.

The Procedure

Hip replacement surgery is a procedure that can either be performed by traditional means or a minimally invasive procedure. The primary difference between the two procedures is the size of the incision. The procedure begins with the doctor administering local anesthesia, though in certain cases, general anesthesia is also administered.

  1. An incision is then made along the hip and the muscles that are connected to the thigh bone are shifted, so that the hip joint is exposed.

  2. An equipment is then used to remove the ball socket of the joint by cutting the thighbone.

  3. The artificial joint is then fixed to the thighbone and it is allowed to adhere properly.

  4. Once the joint is fixed, the ball of the thighbone is then put in the hip socket.

  5. The fluids from the incision area are then allowed to drain.

  6. The hip muscles are then put in place and the incision is closed.

Post -surgery

After the surgery, the recovery stage begins. The period of hospital stay post-surgery usually lasts for 4-6 days. A drainage tube is attached to the bladder to get rid of waste products from the body. Physical therapy begins immediately after the surgery and you will be able to walk after a few days with walking aids. The physical therapy continues for a few months after the surgery.

After care

It is advised to avoid activities that involve twisting your leg for at least half a year. You should also avoid crossing the leg along the mid portion of your body. Your physiotherapist will provide you with exercises that aid to help you recover. Avoid climbing stairs and sit on chairs that have strong back support.

DNB (Orthopedics), Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho), MBBS

When the knees touch each other it is called knock knees (medical term is valgus knees). Since it's a mechanical problem the only way of setting it right is by surgery. The type of surgery will depend on your age and the condition of the knee joint surface.

Am 23 yr old male, whenever am doing weight lifting work I am getting right side leg pain and right side lower back pain and also right side testicles pain too please give me suggestions.

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. My initial advise will be to get yourself examined by a general surgeon or a urologist for testicular pain because there are some causes which we need to rule out. About your back pain with associated leg pain, I can advise that stop your weight lifting for some time till your pain subsides, intensive physical therapy in form of tens as a modality, you can start with neuropathic medications, gentle anti inflammatory medication, but first priority is to get an opinion from a general surgeon and then you can come back to me. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Easiest and sure way of getting vitamin D is sitting in Soft sunlight for 1/2 to 1 hour for five days a week. Otherwise she can take vitamin D 3 tablets or sache after checking green mark on them.

Low Back Pain due to Diffuse disc bulge ki wajah se 10 years tak back pain hone k chances kum hai, Uske wajah se ya Uske elaawah kuch wajah hote Hain Jaise Myofascial trigger points, Biomechanical Misalignment of spine at neck ,pelvis etc can give pain. Calf muscle Tightness ki wajah se bhi low back pain hota hai, Weak Low back muscles ki wajah se bhi. Proper examination ki zarurat hai. Vitamin D3 level agar 9 Ng/ml hai toh ye bahot hi kum hai, minimum above anywhere between 40 Ng/ml to 80 Ng/ml rehna chahye for optimal body functions. Vitamin D3 ko improve karne k liye Vitamin K2 (menaquinone) aur Magnesium Citrate ki istimaal bahot zaruri hai, tabhi Vit D3 Ka Proper absorption hota hai. Vitamin D3 k elaawah Magnesium aur Vit k equally important hai for bone and nerve Health. Magnesium is MORE important than Calcium. Aap meherbaani karke Kisi achhe Orthopedic Physiotherapist se raabta qaayam Karein. Feel free to contact me for further evaluation and advice. Thanks.
