Dear Lybrateuser, - To reduce your weight you have to have more of fibrous foods like fruits & vegetables, beans, legumes, whole grains, peas, nuts, seeds - to reduce triglycerides have more of fibrous foods, do regular exercise, reduce weight, avoid alcohol & smoking, reduce carbohydrates in diet - avoid fried, processed, junk food, chew your food well, do not skip meals, have meals on time, have 4-5 small meals rather than three large meals, have dinner 2-3 hrs before bedtime - reduce nonveg take one portion a day as it has more of saturated fats which will increase cholesterol & triglyceride levels - do regular exercises like walking, jogging, swimming, cycling for 30-40 min, do moderate weight lifting at least twice a week, also do yoga for 10-15 min every morning, it will help reduce weight. -

I am 14 years old boy my weight is higj how can I reduce my weight and I also had thyroids problem what to do.
Don’t worry. You can lose weight easily if you are patient and determined to shed those extra kilos. You just have to alter your daily routine, watch what you eat and be physically active. This requires you to be on your weight loss commitment for quiet long. As soon as you start seeing the results, you will be surprised as well as motivated to go beyond your weight loss and adopt and a lifelong healthy attitude. For a start please follow: 1.Watch what you eat – Are you eating too much junk, drink excessive alcohol and eating too much white food and sugar? Please cut it down to as low as you can from tomorrow. Cut down tea/coffee if you are too addicted to it. It is creating havoc inside your body. 2.Lifestyle – Are you a late sleeper and late riser? You can’t imagine what this schedule of yours is doing to your metabolism. It is degrading your digestive system from inside and your looks from outside. 3.Physically active – If you are a couch potato who loves to watch tv whole day then throw that couch of yours in the street and get yourself a treadmill tomorrow. Yes it is as simple as that. Who is stopping you? You have to be physically active all day long if you want to burn those extra calories. Do daily brisk walk, Pranayam, atleast 20 surayanamaskar everyday to start seeing the results. Take break between office work to walk a little or rather just climb some stairs to get that food you ate in lunch have space and heat to digest and absorb. What’s the harm in using your washroom to do a little middle of the day squats. Do that – No one is watching you. The key is to stay physically active all day long, no matter what. 4.Eat healthy and eat on time: Not only eating healthy is important but eating at right time is equally imp too. Have an early breakfast and early dinner and have 4 small meals between breakfast and dinner. To guide you a bit, here you go: A.Breakfast (Between 8-10 a. M) – Have oats/porridge or brown bread with milk and nuts. B.At 11 a. M - Cup of Green Tea c.Mid day meal (around 12 p. M) – Have a bowl of fruits. Citrus fruits are best taken during this hour and absorb well in the body. Have oranges, amla, pineapple etc during this hour. D.Lunch (between 2-3 p. M) – Daal, roti, mix veg, buttermilk and salad. You can also take brown rice with daal in lunch. Try to get your food cooked in olive oil. Lace your salad with apple cider vinegar, black pepper and seeds like flaxseeds or chia seeds to make it nutrition packed lunch. E.Between 4 p. M – 5 p. M – Cup of Green Tea F.Evening (4-6 p. M) – Have some nice sprouts with tomatoes and cucumber. G.Dinner (2 hours before sleeping, preferably before 9 p. M) – Paneer & veggies salad with olive oil, Roti or brown rice with Daal. H.Have a glass of warm milk. Weight loss is 80% about what you eat and 20% about exercises. That said, both the things go hand in hand. If you want to lose weight in a more healthy way than be patient and just follow the regimen everyday. Slow and steady wins the race.

Hi. I am on Eltroxin 25 mg since 6 months. My TSH now is 5.90. Am I supposed to change my medication?

Hi. I am on Eltroxin 25 mg since 6 months. My TSH now is 5.90. Am I supposed to change my medication?
Mr. Lybrate-user, when on treatment tsh levels should be brought down to 3 to 4 milli units / l for complete relief from all symptoms. At 5.90 milli units/l many symptoms may be still remain. It is necessary to increase the dose by bout 12.5 mcg per day. Then check tsh after 6 weeks to see if that has been beneficial. Thanks.

Dear user, burning more calories that you take is the best way to lose weight. 1. Controlling your diet and exercising regularly is the key to losing weight. Taking the following could also help in accelerating the weight loss process: taking pranacharya medohar rasayan (1-1) twice a day; taking medohar guggul (2-2) twice a day; pranacharya slim capsule (1-1) twice a day. 2. It is advisable to avoid junk, fried, fermented or oily food. You should also avoid the intake of alcohol, sugar, dairy products. 3. You should increase the intake of oats and cereals. You should incorporate a walk of at least 45 minutes in your daily regime and prayanama every morning. It is advised not to sleep immediately after taking a meal.

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Since dietary factors often play a significant role in gallstone formation, following appropriate dietary regimen and lifestyle is of utmost importance. So following rules should be obeyed meticulously to prevent formation of gallstones and also to cure them: 1. Maintain proper food timings like breakfast before 9.30am, lunch before 1pm and dinner before 8.30pm. Late night meals and parties must be avoided. 2.Non-veg, fatty food, junk foods, sweets, chocolates, bread, cakes, milk products like curds, butter and khoya, carbonated drinks, alcohol must be strictly restricted.

Please suggest what I have to do now?

Dear lybrate-user. Most probably you are having either piles or fissure in ano. You should first consult a surgeon who can examine the the lower rectum and anal canal which will most probably make the diagnosis. Colonoscopy to be done if the examination by surgeon is normal. You can consult me if you have more queries.

Hi, my age 27, married last year, recently I took thyroid test result is tsh 7.64.she suggested thyronorm 12.5. I could you please suggest me the diet plan and how frequent I took thyroid test. Is this thyroid will effect the conception?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Usually at TSH level of 7.64 mU/L no treatment is advised, unless one has any of those troublesome symptoms of hypothyroidism. If one is on treatment then TSH should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L. There is no specific diet for hypothyroidism. Only thing is you should avoid soy beans and soy containing products. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Always use whole grain flour for chapati and roti. Avoid foods made of maida and bakery items. Thanks.

I am having hernia I am taking homeopathy medicines is it ok or I have to go for surgery I do not have pain till now and when I sleep it goes inside no bulging can I continue homeopathy I am 63 yrs old male.

If your hernia is small and isnt bothering you, I may recommend a watch-and-wait approach. Enlarging or painful hernias usually require surgery to relieve discomfort and prevent serious complications. In any case if you are overweight then reducing weight will help in preventing recurrence of hernia

I have a high Tsh level with normal T3 and t4 levels. 3 tests at 3 month intervals gave 19.32, 22.03, 11.57. The doctor suggested me to use thyronorm 25mg tabs. Do I need to use these for life long or are these ranges normal, for past 1 years I have gained around 8 kgs of weight. Is this related to my thyroid problem.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Please give current tsh and t3, t4 levels. If you have gained weight, means there is presence of hypothyroidism. To confirm whether there is hypothyroidism or not please give current test results.
