If you have unilateral leg pain it can vary from a simple muscular cramp to varicosity to dvt to stress fracture or plain arthritic knees or ankles. However it needs investigation if it is disturbing you. If it is a muscular pain it should be relieved with paracetamol. However any other pain will need investigation. Please feel free to get in touch for a pvt consultation online.

Pain could be due to injury, muscle cramps or dehydration. But on a safer note, consult a physician/surgeon to rule out other rare causes like hernia or torsion

My mother is 75 years old. Ten years back she had tkr on right side and now want to do the same surgery on left knee which pain is intolerable. Kindly suggest that at this age is it advisable to go for the surgery.

Ten years back she had tkr on right side and now want to do the same surgery on left knee ...
Knee surgery-TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT (TKR) is quite safe & gives uniformly good results, in our hands. We have well equipped center in DELHI. Do ask for detailed treatment plan. Surgery should be done when patient is still active & will be able to take benefit of surgery. Do not ignore .It could be beginning of a serious problem. Kindly show me x rays before a final decision can be taken. She will be thoroughly investigated before surgery is under taken. Risk in surgery is less than the risk in crossing road.

I am male ,sir I have continuous back pain from 1 month ago when I stand or sit more time ,no pain when lying on bed,...
Please note that there could be several reasons for your back pain - injury/strain/standing/sitting too long at a stretch/disc prolapses, etc. I suggest you follow the below for your condition: take mag phos 6x - thrice daily for next 2 weeks and update. Also do x-ray of the affected area. Heat and ice packs. Heat and/or cold therapy helps relieve most types of low back pain by reducing inflammation. Often patients use ice, but some prefer heat. Both may be used alternately.

Hi back pain is most commonly due to bad posture or an injury to the structures in the spine. Take bed rest for 2 to 3 days. Avoid bending forwards or squatting or two wheeler as it puts lot of strain on the spine. Take some physiotherapy help, know about good posture and learn back strengthening exercises. It is better to see a spine specialist if pain persists.

It usually takes around 6 - 9 months to get back to routine. You have to undergo proper physiotherapy before you can go to your routine. Closed chain exercises helps. Once your knee feels stable after this then you can pretty much do what you want including running and jogging.

Postoperative Care for Spinal Fusion Surgery!

MBBS, Cerebrovascular and Micro neurosurgery fellowship, MS - General Surgery, MCh Neurosurgery
Neurosurgeon, Jaipur
Postoperative Care for Spinal Fusion Surgery!

Spinal surgery becomes inevitable when back pain cannot be managed with medications and/or exercise. This is a major decision and requires planning for many things before, during, and after the surgery.

Before a spinal surgery- This preparation will help in smooth recovery, especially if you do not have a full-time caretaker.

  1. Discontinue pain killers: Discontinue pain killers at least 10 to 14 days before surgery. These are blood thinners and can prolong bleeding during the surgery.

  2. Prepare for blood loss: Most people experience some blood loss, but not excessive.

  3. Use a toilet seat raiser: Sitting and getting up from the toilet seat may be difficult. The seat raiser is used to increase the height, making this movement easy.

  4. Enable easy access to common items: Before heading for the surgery, keep things which are commonly used within easy reach. This will help reduce movement and avoid searching (especially if someone else is going to be doing it).

  5. Stock it up: Cooking may not be feasible during the initial postop period, and so it is advisable to stock up food items (ready to eats, fruits, soups, etc.) which will come in handy.

  6. Slip-ons: Bending down and tying shoes may not be easy, so slip-ons can be used.

  7. Caregiving: It is always advisable to have someone stay over with you during the initial postop days. They could help with regular household chores, cooking, etc.

  8. Lifestyle changes: Ensure you eat well in the days before surgery, quit smoking, quit/use moderate amounts of alcohol, and exercise as advised by your surgeon.

After Surgery- Post surgery, there will be some pain and limitation of movement. It is important to understand that adherence to post-op instructions will improve the success rate of the surgery. Also, recovery time for spine surgery is slightly longer and affects overall quality of life, so psychological preparation is required.

  1. Postoperative medications: These will be given to control infection and pain in the immediate postop period, and should be taken without fail

  2. Rehab: The surgeon will recommend physical therapy and rehab exercises which need to be followed. Complete recovery may take anywhere between 3 to 12 months. During this time, care should be taken to avoid repeat injury.

  3. Support: Adequate back support should be provided using lumbar support and ergonomic chairs, and the right posture should be maintained. Ensure there is no undue strain on the back muscles.

  4. Weight management: With excess weight, there is too much strain on the lower disks. Therefore, weight should be managed to reduce this strain.

  5. Smoking and alcohol should be completely stopped, as healing can be hampered.

With some preparation, spinal surgery can be sailed through smoothly. Consult an Expert & get answers to your questions!

When ever I play my left legs knee pain's alot. It is happening since 10 days and it is very painful. Pls help me.
Hi lybrate-user it's because of muscle strain. You can get rid of it by applying a knee cap or strap your knee joint for some days around 2 weeks.in those two weeks you need to do knee rehab which follows 1. Apply ice for 5 to 10 mins in a circular manner. 2. Apply crab bandage to get rid of pain. 3. Taping can be done for strained muscle. 4. Always do warm up properly for knee joint followed by exercises and cool down. 5. For more details text back and get step by step instructions n charts. Regards.

Sometimes stopping medication can lead to relapse. I strongly suggest you to start using more fiber in diet. Currently add isabgol 2tsf at bedtime with luke warm milk. And use local ointments before passing stool so that you do not have to hold back because of the pain. Use sitz bath twice daily. Add salads and fruits like apple to your daily diet. You may consult, if required.

Hello hi I am guravaiya I am 31 year old I am suffering from right shoulder joint it has been paining very much what ...
The pain on your shoulder could be due a muscle spasm or impingement of the bone. You should take a session of 10 days of ift treatment physiotherapy for your shoulder and then do with a cold pack dialy twice for 10 minutes. Kindlly start on a few exercises for your shoulder as the physiotherapist will tell you. A few active exercises, then a resisted exercises and then you could do a few stretches for your shoulder. All this should help you to reduce your pain. Please note - do not o any exercises until your pian level has come down to 30%. Please do get back to me.
