Respected Doctor, My wife gave birth a female child on Sep. 23.2015. It is a normal delivery. Now almost 4 months have been over. At birth time to reduce the stomach she bandaged by using cloth around her stomach for a 2 months. At that time the stomach is reduced but now the stomach size is being increased where is the wrong? Is there any excersize to do to decrease the stomach or else any other way? Please suggest me.

She should continue rigorous breastfeeding. Abdominal toning up exercises are necessary. Avoid high caloric diet, foods with hidden fats and fast foods. Stomach is not the only place. Hips and thighs are also prone to fat accumulation. Hope she is not diabetic or hypothyroid. BP needs to be checked. There are more issues......

If I've taken 6 pills of black cohosh during a pregnancy that I wasn't aware of ,would it be okay if I stopped taking them now or what kind of effects will I be facing? Should I go on and take the rest or stop? Please help.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
If I've taken 6 pills of black cohosh during a pregnancy that I wasn't aware of ,would it be okay if I stopped taking...
Black cohosh has commonly been used to treat symptoms of menopause, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), painful menstruation, acne, weakened bones (osteoporosis), and for starting labor in pregnant women. Black cohosh has also been tried for a lot of additional uses, such as anxiety, rheumatism, fever, sore throat, and cough, but it is not often used for these purposes these days.Black cohosh root also seems to have some effects similar to the female hormone, estrogen. In some parts of the body, black cohosh might increase the effects of estrogen. In other parts of the body, black cohosh might decrease the effects of estrogen. Estrogen itself has various effects in different parts of the body. Estrogen also has different effects in people at different stages of life. Black cohosh should not be thought of as an “herbal estrogen” or a substitute for estrogen. It is more accurate to think of it as an herb that acts similar to estrogen in some people. You may take the rest and then stop

How smoking during pregnancy can affect your health and that of your child's?

How smoking during pregnancy can affect your health and that of your child's?

Smoking during pregnancy can adversely affect not only your health but that of your unborn too. Kicking this habit can help you to have a safer pregnancy as well as a healthier baby. If not, it can lead to a number of serious pregnancy complications including the death of your baby. According to various findings, smoking during this period can double your prospects of having a baby with low birth weight as well as your chance for stillbirth.

What happens when you smoke while pregnant?

The cigarette smoke is made up of about 4000 chemicals, which includes about 60 cancer causing substances, lead, and cyanide. Of these toxins in cigarette smoke, carbon monoxide and nicotine are the two toxins that make up much of smoking-related pregnancy complication. The toxins go directly to your baby through the bloodstream, the only source of nutrients and oxygen for your offspring. By working in tandem, the nicotine and carbon monoxide toxins bring about a decrease in the supply of oxygen for your baby. While nicotine cuts off oxygen supply by constricting the blood vessels, the red blood cells responsible for carrying oxygen also pick up carbon monoxide molecules and take them directly to your baby.

What effects does it have on your little one?

When you smoke, you put your baby on harm's way and here's what happens to your baby:

- In terms of weight, it has been revealed that while smoking one pack daily can bring about a 226 gm decrease in the baby's weight, smoking two packs every day can affect your baby's weight by about 453 gm. A stunted growth during this period can negatively affect your child later in life.

- Due to the negative effects of the toxins, the development of your baby's lung and body gets hampered. It may also make your baby prone to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SID) and asthma.

- It can also increase your baby's chance of suffering from a heart defect. Research shows that babies whose mothers smoke during the first three months of pregnancy have 20-70% chance of developing congenital heart problems compared to babies whose mothers didn't smoke.

- Smoking can affect the development of his brain functions and cause him or her to suffer from low IQ, learning disabilities as well as behavioral issues.

Painful lumps in your age group are quite common. Nothing needs to be done to them if they are small. However examination by a surgeon should be sough to endorse and confirm the diagnosis.

Work During Pregnancy

Work During Pregnancy
Life is surely challenging for pregnant women who are working too. Pregnancy is a time when your body does not obey you and when you have to obey commands from other quarters, it becomes a bit tricky. But remember that pregnancy is not a disease and you can very much have a normal life and do well in office if you follow these simple tips.

1. Manage your stress level. It is but natural to have some or the other kind of stress at every work place. But you are in a beautiful phase of your life, so banish all negative thoughts and think of the little one who is growing inside you.

2. Carry your food and snacks as it is not advisable to eat out since your immune system becomes very weak during pregnancy and you are more likely to catch an infection.

3. Small breaks are a must. Take short walks; try deep breathing and east something every 2 hours.

4. Consciously sit straight. It is very important to maintain a healthy sitting posture so be very careful about it. If you suffer from swelling in legs, try a foot-rest to elevate your feet.{mosimage}

5. Avoid stairs. You don't need any strenuous exercise at this stage so it is better that you use a lift as there is no point tiring yourself unnecessarily.

6. No coffee, no cigarettes as a rule of thumb. Caffeine and nicotine are dangerous for your baby so stay away from them howsoever hard the temptation may be.

7. Don't try being a superwoman. That you are pregnant and still managing with your work is great. But you must understand that your body is weak and it needs rest. You must take rest at intervals and try not to overdo to prove yourself.

8. No bumpy rides please. You are in a delicate stage of health and your little one does not like to be juggled a lot. Moreover, it might turn harmful for the baby.

9. Drink a lot. But only water and fresh juices! no hard drinks please. Remain hydrated to avoid crams and bouts of nausea. It also helps in flatulence.

10. Keep emergency number on your desk and in your bag as a precautionary

It is abnormal to bleed for so many days. We need to stop bleeding by drugs. And then we need to find out the cause of bleeding so that we can treat it effectively to prevent it from causing problems in future.

Dear user. TO CAUSE PREGNANCY on a woman, sperm should be ejaculated inside the vagina or fresh sperm should be inseminated inside the vagina with some means during the fertility period of the woman. Pregnancy only happens when other aspects are too satisfied. In the given case, there are less chances of pregnancy. Take care.

Male Menopause / Andropause:

Ph.D (Male Infertility), M.S (Infertility), D.G.L.S, D.R.C.O.G, C.Sc., D.M.R.D, M.B.B.S
Sexologist, Bangalore

Male menopause / andropause:
“Male menopause” is also called andropause. It describes a drop in testosterone levels that many men experience when they get older.
Declining testosterone levels can cause many symptoms. For example, it can cause depression, reduced muscle mass, increased body fat, and erectile dysfunction.
To treat your problems, you have to change your
Lifestyle. You may require antidepressant medications, counseling, or hormone therapy.
Male menopause” is the more common term for andropause. It describes age-related changes in male hormone levels. The same group of symptoms is also known as testosterone deficiency, androgen deficiency, and late-onset hypogonadism.

Male menopause involves a drop in testosterone production in men who are age 50 or older. It’s often affiliated with hypogonadism. Both conditions involve lowered testosterone levels and similar symptoms.

Symptoms:
Male menopause can cause physical, sexual, and psychological problems. They typically worsen as you get older. They can include:

  • Low energy
  • Depression or sadness
  • Decreased motivation
  • Lowered self-confidence
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Insomnia or difficulty sleeping
  • Increased body fat
  • Reduced muscle mass and feelings of physical weakness
  • Gynecomastia, or development of breasts
  • Decreased bone density
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Reduced libido
  • Infertility

You may also experience swollen or tender breasts, decreased testicle size, loss of body hair, or hot flashes. Low levels of testosterone associated with male menopause have also been linked to osteoporosis. This is a condition where your bones become weak and brittle. These are rare symptoms. They typically affect men at the same age as women entering menopause.

As you age, your testosterone levels will typically begin to drop.

Diagnosis and treatment:

Get your blood serum testosterone levels tested in a laboratory.

The most common type of treatment for symptoms of male menopause is making healthier lifestyle choices.

It is advisable to:

  • Eat a healthy diet
  • Get regular exercise
  • Get enough sleep
  • Reduce your stress

These lifestyle habits can benefit all men. After adopting these habits, men who are experiencing symptoms of male menopause may see a dramatic change in their overall health.

If you’re experiencing depression, you may require antidepressants, therapy, and lifestyle changes.

Testosterone:
Onions and garlic are your allies in the kitchen and in the bedroom. They help you make more and better sperm. Both raise levels of a hormone that triggers your body to make testosterone. And both have high levels of natural plant chemical called flavonoids.

Skin patch (transdermal): androderm is a skin patch worn on the arm or upper body. It's applied once a day.
Gels: androgel and testim come in packets of clear testosterone gel. Testosterone is absorbed directly through the skin when you apply the gel once a day. Androgel, axiron, and fortesta also come in a pump that delivers the amount of testosterone prescribed by your doctor. Natesto is a gel applied inside the nose.
Mouth patch: striant is a tablet that sticks to the upper gums above the incisor, the tooth just to the right or left of the two front teeth. Applied twice a day, it continuously releases testosterone into the blood through the oral tissues.
Injections and implants: testosterone can also be injected directly into the muscles, or implanted as pellets in the soft tissues. Your body slowly absorbs the testosterone into the bloodstream.
Oral testosterone is available. However, some experts believe oral testosterone can have negative effects on the liver. Using other methods, such as skin patches, gels, orally disintegrating tablets, or injections, bypasses the liver and gets testosterone into the blood.

Many men with low testosterone report improved energy levels, sex drive, and mood after. If testosterone is low, why not replace it? not so fast. A low testosteron level by itself doesn't need treatment. Testosteron can have side effects, and the long-term risks and benefits aren't known. Only men with symptoms of low testosterone and blood levels that confirm this as the cause of symptoms should consider testosterone replacement.

This is piles. It is generally caused when we strain during bowel movement, it pushes the blood into the rectal veins and arteries. This causes swollen veins that push against the anal walls, resulting in weak and feeble anal muscles. Include lots of fibre in your diet to regulate bowel movement.
