Sir I smoke weed joint only on weekend is it will harm me or I can continue with it? I studied on internet dat smoking weed is not harmful as compare to others?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
The problems with addictive substances like weed is that over time your tolerance for it will develop and you will need more of he substance to get the same effect. So there is no guarantee that you can stick with this control. Not much is known about its entertainment value or benefits. There is a lot of hype by those who want to legitimize it and those who love it: there is a bias because of their selfish motives. The antagonists on the other hand willfully propagate the dangers, sometimes without substantiated reasons to dissuade its use. If you know it is harmful why would you want to play with it. The obsession and compulsive use is when you become addicted to the substance. Now we all spoke the same language: we can stop whenever we want, it is not addictive, it is fun after all, there are so many medical benefits etc. All meant to justify the consumption. There are so many other healthy ways to be creative or to stimulate the creativity in you; and there are so many ways to ‘open’ your mind. Why choose the easy way out when it is a chemical way out? Just for your information here’s what WebMD has to say: ‘No matter how it gets into your system, it affects almost every organ in your body, and your nervous system and immune system, too. When you smoke pot, your body absorbs THC right away. (If you eat a baked good or another item, it may take much longer for your body to absorb THC, because it has to break down in your stomach before it enters your bloodstream). You may notice changes in your body right after you smoke. The effects usually stop after 3 or 4 hours. Smoking pot can increase your heart rate by as much as two times for up to 3 hours. That’s why some people have a heart attack right after they use marijuana. It can increase bleeding, lower blood pressure, and affect your blood sugar, too. We don’t yet know if marijuana is linked to higher odds of getting lung cancer. But the process does irritate your lungs -- which is why regular pot smokers are more likely to have an ongoing cough and to have lung-related health problems like chest colds and lung infections. Other physical effects of marijuana include: • Dizziness • Shallow breathing • Red eyes and dilated pupils • Dry mouth • Increased appetite • Slowed reaction time (If you drive after using marijuana, your risk of being in a car accident more than doubles.) If you’re a long-time user, you can have physical withdrawal symptoms -- like cravings, irritability, sleeplessness, and less appetite -- when you stop.’ It being a hallucinogen, it can lead to hallucinations and even a phenomenon called ‘cross hallucinations’ i.e. for example, you can see sounds and hear colors!!! Please discontinue soon and live healthily until the scientific world comes up with concrete benefits, if an, about smoking weed.

Hi lybrate-user, you are suffering from anxiety- fear of death and unknown happening. The fear of death is a common cause and effect of anxiety, and even those without anxiety often experience this fear in some ways. Relaxation exercises coupled with cognitive behavioral therapy will help you overcome this. Consult a psychologist for same. You can consult with me too. All the best.

When things are stagnant and stuck, you need to change your course of plan. If one type of employment is hard to get. Try finding a different one. Which you never tried. Or start something. Fluidity will ease your stress.

You might have saved yourself of a lot of trouble. That you have quit alcohol is fantastic. Now do regular exercise, sleep well, eat well and live happily. There is nothing to worry about unless any medical problems arise, which may or may not be related to your addiction. It is worth consulting an addiction counselor for personality traits that may need attention. You should also attend AA meetings.

My mood changes frequently. If ever I'm in a great mood suddenly gets worse mood. \
Hi lybrate-user, mood swings, or rapid changes in one's emotional state, may occur as a reaction to circumstances or environment, as a result of a physical or mental health condition, or for no apparent reason. General moodiness is likely to be a part of everyone's life, but in some circumstances, changes in mood may be severe and have an effect on health and daily function. When rapid or frequent mood shifts seem to occur without a cause or when they affect one's behavior, well-being, or typical function, the support of a therapist or other mental health professional may be helpful. Mood swings are often associated with persistent expectations for bad things to happen or, in other words, negative thinking. For example, you might be waiting to hear back from a job and assume you didn't get it after only a day has passed. Or maybe your mother has informed you that she has something to tell you and you immediately assume that she's deathly ill. Not only is this kind of negative thinking often inaccurate, it can also dramatically affect your mood and lead you to feel very angry and upset, typically for little to no" real" reason.[1] there are two different tricks you can try for dealing with such unhealthy automatic thinking: take a step back and relax. Instead of assuming the worst that can happen, think about all of the other scenarios that are possible. This will help you realize that the worst is not likely to happen, and that there's no point in getting all upset until you know more information. Alternately, you could consider the worst possible scenario and prepare for it, just in case. By ensuring that you are well prepared for even the worst case scenario you can imagine, you might be able to focus your attention on something else instead of dwelling on the unpredictable consequences that could result from it. Secondly, overgeneralizing is another way that you may lead yourself into a bad mood. Maybe you had a bad interaction on a date or with a co-worker. So what? you may think this means that you'll never find love or that you're going to be fired, but you shouldn't let this one situation or conversation make you feel like it's indicative or determinant of other trends in your life. This kind of generalizing is bound to make you moody and upset, but there is a way to counteract it. Remind yourself that what happened was an isolated incident. Instead of assuming one incident (such as a disagreement with a coworker or date) is reflective of your entire relationship with this person, consider it as a one-off and something that doesn't happen very often. Remind yourself of all of the success you have had in this realm, whether it's your work life or your romantic life, and you'll be able to calm down a bit and realize that there's no need to get all worked up about it. Maintain a well balanced diet and exercise regularly. Consult a psychologist for mood monitoring.

Please help me. I am very depressed as when I go to the bad I can't sleep. What is the reason and solution of it.

Master of Arts, Clinical Psychology, Ph.D., Neuropsychology
Psychologist, Udaipur
Please help me. I am very depressed as when I go to the bad I can't sleep. What is the reason and solution of it.
Dear lybrate-user, 1. Start counting backward from 100 to 0. When you start counting visualise or image with closed eyes a blackboard which has 100 written on it. Imagine that board is closer to you. As you count backward form 100 to 99, the black board goes farther or far away from you and becomes smaller and the number on board turns to 99. Keep counting till the blackboard vanishes by becoming far and smaller. 2. Insomnia is result of some unconscious stress you are going through. You will require a Psychologist to unfold what unconscious stress you are having. Also if the physical body is not tired it becomes hard to sleep. So I suggest you to do some physical exercises or yoga in morning and evening to tire the physical body. You hv to assess whether which of the condition is more applicable onto you. But in any case the solution in 1. Works well most of the time.

Dear , first of all I would like to know whether you are diagnosed as bipolar or you are just assuming. If you are diagnosed, then you must be taking medicines. Tell me what are those medicines. Then I shall tell you if you need anything more. Secondly, bipolar disorder is treated with psychotherapy and medicines together. I think two or three counseling sessions and psycho therapy techniques should help manage your problem. Let me know if you are willing to undergo counseling sessions and tailor made psycho therapy through mobile. Take care.

Hi, We can not change the world around us so why not change ourselves. Focus on yourself. Try to feel good pamper yourself. It will lead to your high self esteem. See and analyse what is that your partner is looking and which he feels you are lacking. work on that. don't run for attention. Be confident. As far as looking at girls, it is very common for guys and girls to do that. Until and unless he is done something serious like cheating on you, you should not take it seriously. Still if it does, try to rationalize the situation.

So please keep a watch on your job or career or family/relationship daily. Are you smoking nicotine cigarettes also? In that case, you need to watch out for more harmful effects.

It is natural to feel low and miss the person you have lost. However if it is interfering with your sleep, studies or general well being, or if you feel suicidal, you need to consult a psychiatrist. It is common to feel low, cry, feel like you are alone, or lose your self confidence. Usually time is the best healer. However if things are too difficult to handle you should talk to a psychiatrist or counselor. Confide in someone close to you, who will support you in this difficult time. Don't cut off from friends or family, even if you feel like you want to be alone. You can contact me for further help, if required.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. At your age, memory problems like amnesia, dementia etc are not common. Many young people are having problems with memory. These problems are either they are too busy or due to anxiety and stress. Busy people use organizers or employ a personal assistant because they can't remember every task. You need to understand this. If you still say, you are having memory problems, we need to check your memory using memory test. If you want more of my help in this regard, please contact me. Take care.
