I love someone. That person also loves me or loved me. We were together for 7 yrs. Now i feel like he s changed. Words say something and feeling say something else. Doesn't give importance like before. Because of the behaviour i am hurt i get mood swings. I want to overcome this. But i don't know what i can do. I tried avoidin but i am not able to. Please help?

Do not avoid this situation. If you perceive this development, talk to him openly and find out as to what is happening with him. These seven years should have been spent in building the union. Since that is not what is happening, may be you have done everything that was meant for marriage and the relationship has become stale and not so exciting. Relationships must be worked on always and little interesting things must be introduced to spice it up. Staleness will creep in easily, and one or the other will get bored. If there is nothing more to explore in this relationship, then that could be the end and the signs are showing. You should not force a relationship to work ? there must be things in the relationship that excite each of you. Women are very intuitive but your interpretation may be all wrong. The disconnect between what is said and the feeling is a good pickup and must be discussed. Instead of speculating any more talk to him and find out the truth and then act accordingly. Remember, both of you must want this relationship, only then there is scope and hope.

Anxiety - How To Know If You Are Having An Attack?

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chandigarh
Anxiety - How To Know If You Are Having An Attack?

Everyone gets worried and anxious now and then. However, for some people, anxiety is a constant companion, which is not at all normal. Anxiety disorders can interfere with your day to day life and should be treated as a mental illness. Anxiety disorders can be treated as long as they are diagnosed early enough.

There are many types of anxiety disorders, including:

  1. Panic disorders: Frequent panic attacks that make a person sweat excessively, have palpitations and feel as though they were choking are characteristic signs of panic disorders. People suffering from this disorder may equate their experience to that of having a heart attack.
  2. Social anxiety disorder: This is also known as social phobia. Patients suffering from this disorder are extremely self-conscious in social situations and constantly worry about how they are perceived by others. This makes them seem very quiet and introverted.
  3. Generalised anxiety disorder: Some people can have anxiety attacks even without a trigger factor. In such cases, they are said to be suffering from generalised anxiety disorder. This condition is marked by unrealistic worries and tensions.
  4. Phobias: Phobias of fear of specific situations or objects are another common type of anxiety disorder. Depending on the severity of the phobia, it can affect the daily lifestyle of a person. For example, a person with a fear of heights may not be able to go to work if his office is on the 10th floor of a building.

Some of the characteristic symptoms of anxiety disorders are:

  1. Panic attacks
  2. Insomnia
  3. Sweaty palms or feet
  4. Shortness of breath
  5. Palpitations
  6. Nausea
  7. Dizziness

Though the exact cause of anxiety is not known, exposure to stress and surroundings of a person play an important role in triggering this condition. Chronic stress can reprogram nerve connections that regulate emotional responses in the brain. Anxiety disorders may also be passed on from parent to child genetically.

  • Anxiety disorders cannot be prevented, but they can be treated and managed through medication and psychotherapy. The exact course of treatment depends on the type of anxiety disorder being treated.
  • Antidepressants, anticonvulsant medication and antipsychotics are often used to reduce the symptoms of anxiety disorders. Using a combination of psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy, the patient may be taught how to recognise thought patterns and triggers that cause anxiety and how to deal with them.
  • Meditation and other forms of relaxation therapy can also help calm a person down during an anxiety attack. Further, making a few lifestyle changes that limit exposure to stress can help manage anxiety resulting from it.

I am alcoholic. Drink 3 peg daily. I have pain n my whole belly n back. In ultrasound doctor told me that liver z enlarge. So PLZZ sugest me da best medicine.

Enlarged live is a bad sign of excessive drinking. You need to stop immediately. It does not matter when you feel like drinking, as long as you need your drink. This could lead to increased tolerance levels so that over time you will need to drink more to get the same or greater effect. You need to identify why you need to drink, and go back into your childhood to find out other influences on your personality that makes you prone to addiction. Meet with an addiction counselor and work with them to sort out this drive. Your already display the classic tendency to first obsess about it and then compulsively feel driven to meet that need. The simplest thing to do is to do some other interesting activity during the evening times. Meet your oral need with some other non-intoxicating drink like soups, juices, and sodas with lime, etc. If you think that you will find it very difficult, then admit yourself to a hospital and go for de-addiction: which normally lasts for about two weeks. Then follow that up with addiction counseling from a professional for at least three years to completely get rid of the habit. If this is also not enough, then admit yourself into a de-addiction center and stay there for at least 6 months and after that attend counseling with a professional. There are medicines that help with the drinking just to ease the initial craving. Ultimately, it is your will power and the support that you receive from the medical fraternity and your close and dear ones. You must also learn to substitute and deal with the oral need, a rigid value system, the script issue, and of course look at all the genetic factors to plan a strategy not to get into what is called ‘cross addictions’ i.e. Another form of addiction that may appear alright but is in fact as bad as the primary addiction. The center or hospital and the counselor will advise and guide you on several measures and precautions you will need to take to stay with your resolve. Even after the rehabilitation you must attend AA meetings and continue this support for a long time. Your family will also need to attend some sessions and go for Al-anon meetings for their co-dependency issues. You cannot be treated in isolation because the family has gotten used to your drinking and have made some unhealthy adaptations to somehow cope. Make a serious plan with the family and whoever else’s support you can get and act on it fast. As a combination these two therapies (counseling and rehabilitation) will aid in dealing with the addiction. It will however take a long time to completely come off of the enslavement.

Hi last few days I am feeling a bit more nervous and restless in the morning. As day progresses, it eases off a bit. I am constantly thinking about death. What could be reason for it?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

Hi last few days I am feeling a bit more nervous and restless in the morning. As day progresses, it eases off a bit. ...
There are two possibilities: if you are waking up nervous and restless, then the influences of dreams and the unconscious mind’s persuasions could be the cause; and if you get up and then feel this experience, then it is possible that the fear of facing the day, even if there was nothing to worry about, could be the culprit. In both these instances survival level fear and some insecurity could be behind the experience. Death could then be an escape from facing these major fears. Sunlight is fortunately an equalizer by the effect of light itself on the human being as an amazingly stimulating power, and as you move around getting into your chores, the energy levels spike and the biorhythm (which has three areas of influence: climbing energy levels, mood levels and metabolic rate) rises up to peak at 11 am. By this time I guess the fear subsides, primarily by the influence of daylight and sunlight. If all this I say is true, even remotely, meet with a counselor and explore the survival level fear and deal with it effectively. You should be well free of this disturbance. The morning effect is to be seen as a revelation from your system to draw your attention towards something really important that needs consideration.

I am stressed a lot and I get angry lastly. I dont know what to do and how to control myself when angry. Please give me your valuable suggestion?

Master of Clinical Psychology, Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Counselling
Psychologist, Pune
Anger is a natural feeling which all of us experience. You don't need to control it, instead, learn to express it in a constructive manner. It needs to be released rather than holding or suppressing. Openly express your feelings with your closed ones. Write down which things make you upset and how you can take it without giving impulsive reactions. First of all, when you get angry, start deep breathing and release the negativity and think what you need to do in a passive manner.

What are the symptoms of Schizophrenia? Are violent temperament, inability to see reason, and imagining enemies some of the symptoms?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
There are a wide variety of symptoms depending on the type of schizophrenia. What you describe is indeed some of the symptoms of a type called paranoid schizophrenia. There will be delusions of persecution and suspicion over everyone including family and other trusted ones. Paranoids are specifically tormented by abnormal fear. What they do however is that instead of dealing with that fear, they escalate anger over it and act violent. They are extremely sensitive to rejection or the anticipation of it. Their thinking can be quite illogical and distorted. They imagine everything with suspicion and withdraw into themselves. They must be put on medication and a lot of occupational therapy and intense psychotherapy are needed to mitigate the symptoms. Kindly seek a psychiatrist's help immediately and do not attempt alternative therapy until a psychiatric evaluation has been performed. A correct diagnosis must be made and prescription followed accordingly. It is very difficult to attempt treatment with other forms of therapy, which lack the tools to tackle this serious mental disorder. In fact they may cause irreparable damage even with good intentions.

Get a complete hemogram, TSH and Vitamin B12 level. If there are any abnormalities here, they will need to be corrected. If they are normal, it is almost certainly related to what is known as registration deficit. This occurs due to mild anxiety related problems. They can be easily treated with medicines such as escitalopram, sertraline or paroxetine. It can be started and kept at low doses only. They have no side effects. Some amount of supervision will be needed from doctor. Take care!

Bach Flower Remedies

MD - Homeopathy, Masters Degree of Homoeopathy
Homeopath, Mumbai
Bach Flower Remedies

We all realize that a person's well-being is a mix of physical and emotional health. It is never possible that a person suffering from major anxiety, depression, attention disorder, sleep disorders, stress, or mental trauma can have a perfectly normal physical health.  The Bach Flower remedies are one of the well-proven methods of healing one's emotional imbalances, helping mankind achieve happiness and joy.

Dr. Edward Bach discovered the benefits that flowering trees and plants can have on healing one's emotional problems.  These became extremely popular in the 1930s and help a person to positively deal with negative emotions and behavior patterns. The overall result is an improved well-being, both emotionally and physically, leading to overall happiness.

How it works: Dr. Bach discovered 38 flowers, each of them contributing in some way to the emotional well-being of a person. Each flower improves emotional negativity in some way. These 38 include some of the common ones like pine, mustard, oak, and walnut to rare ones like larch, rock rose, etc. Each flower is associated with an emotion. For instance, pine is associated with guilt, mustard with deep gloom for no reason, elm with overwhelmed feeling due to loaded responsibilities, etc.

Bach flower remedies or BFRs as they are called, are solutions containing brandy and water.  Dr. Bach believed that dew found on the flower petals had preserved the healing properties of the plant and can be used to heal.  While the water contains extreme dilutions of this dew material, the brandy acts as a preservative.

There is a Bach questionnaire that needs to be answered.  This will help identify the right flower remedies needed for a particular person.  In a vast majority of cases, it would be a combination of 6 to 7 remedies that are combined to make a personalized combination.  Over a period of time, the negative emotions will be replaced with positive ones.  The safety and popularity of this remedy is so wide that children, elderly people, pregnant women, and even pets and plants have benefited from this.

How do you make your customized therapy?

Take an empty 30 ml bottle that has a dropper in the lid, which you can get at the local pharmacy store. To this, add two drops of each selected remedy. Alternately, you could also use 4 drops of the formula that is available pre-mixed, which works in most cases.  To this bottle with drops of the flower remedies, add plain, mineral water.  Take 4 drops of this at least 4 times every day.

This is an extremely popular and well-proven method of healing, with the Bach foundation continuing to propagate the teachings and remedy of Dr. Bach.
