I think I suffer from depression and ocd at the same time always feeling suicidal and hopeless I do not knw how to get out of this :(

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Depression medication may be the most advertised treatment for depression, but that doesn’t mean it is the most effective. Depression is not just about a chemical imbalance in the brain. Medication may help relieve some of the symptoms of moderate and severe depression, but it doesn’t cure the underlying problem, and it’s usually not a long-term solution. Antidepressant medications also come with side effects and safety concerns, and withdrawal can be very difficult. If you're considering whether antidepressant medication is right for you, ask privately for prescription as we are not allowed to prescribe in questions session If you are taking medication for depression, don’t ignore other treatments. Lifestyle changes and therapy not only help speed recovery from depression, but also provide skills to help prevent a recurrence.

Hi lybrate-user, it can be well due to stress. Try breathing exercises as many times a say as you can, place your left hand on your abdomen and your right hand on your chest. Notice how your hands move as you breathe in and out. Practice filling your lower lungs by breathing so that your left hand goes up when you inhale and your right hand remains still. Always inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Keep your shoulders relaxed, and don't shrug them. When you have filled and emptied your lower lungs 8 to 10 times, add the second step to your breathing: inhale first into your lower lungs as before, and then continue inhaling into your upper chest. As you do so, your right hand will rise and your left hand will fall a little as your abdomen falls. As you exhale slowly through your mouth, make a quiet, whooshing sound as first your left hand and then your right hand falls. As you exhale, feel the tension leaving your body as you become more and more relaxed. Practice breathing in and out in this manner for 3 to 5 minutes. Notice that the movement of your abdomen and chest is like rolling waves rising and falling in a rhythmic motion. When the relaxation response is activated: your heart rate decreases breathing becomes slower and deeper blood pressure drops or stabilizes your muscles relax your body begins to heal in addition to its calming physical effects, the relaxation response also increases energy and focus, combats illness, relieves aches and pains, heightens problem-solving abilities, and boosts motivation and productivity. Best of all, anyone can reap these benefits with regular practice. All the best:)

If someone is consuming alcohol then whether the ANTI RABIES VACCINE will work properly on his body or not.

MD - Psychiatry

Anti rabies vaccine works by producing antibodies (immune mechanism). Alcohol reduces immunity, so there are good chances the anti rabies vaccine efficacy might be low due to alcohol consumption.

Are You Overwhelmed - Secrets To Help You Manage It!

Are You Overwhelmed - Secrets To Help You Manage It!

Sometimes when a person has too much on their plate, they are left feeling overwhelmed and stressed out. Here are a few ways in which you can manage being overwhelmed and return to a place of control, contentment and relaxation.

  1. Venture out: Trying to work and get your tasks done despite your confusion and feeling of helplessness will not lead you anywhere. You need to step away to have the capacity to see your conditions from a new point of view. Move to an alternate room, get up from your work area, sit on a different couch, go out for a walk or go sit at a bistro. Venturing out from the present circumstance and changing your physical surroundings will help you gain clarity, and move you far from the overwhelming perspective. This is when you can see the solution more clearly.
  2. Vent it out: When you are occupied, it is very easy to lose any feeling and sense of priority and the panic makes everything seem urgent. In reality, there will be things that may require your consideration for a brief span. Hence, the key thing is to have clarity and gain visibility on what you are managing. Attempt a "mind download", where you record everything, with the goal that you can figure out what is obstructing your brain and its functioning.
  3. Requesting help and allowing help: You would be surprised at what number of individuals will offer assistance. Usually, our limited thinking is because we become a problem for ourselves as we disallow others to help us. Sometimes we also think they will say no, thus we do not ask for help. Simply try it out. Request help, and get ready to be surprised at the generosity you might get from others.
  4. Phase out noise: When we feel overwhelmed, it feels soothing to do something to loosen up and relax, such as watching the TV, listening to music, watching the news or playing a game. What we overlook during this time is that the additional data that comes in clutters our mind that further tangles our already overwhelmed senses.
  5. Make continuous improvements: Concentrate on one area at a time. Question yourself: what kind of change would be good for you? Concentrate on little, easy-to-do portions, not an instant upgrade. Say, your employment. Experiment with ten minutes of a sustaining pace. Appreciate how that feels. At that point expand on it. Check whether your well being moves forward. Try to feel positive energy in the bargain.

Treat the sentiment of overwhelming nervousness as a companion, for it is an indicator telling us that we have to slow down. It tells us to readjust our centre of focus and prioritise something else that makes us feel positive and better.

There is very little urine pass (below 400 millilitre per day) since past two days. I had 4 alcoholic drinks two days ago. I am suffering from dehydration? While I had 6 glasses of water in the morning, does this low urine output mean that my body is still in dehydration mode despite consuming 6 glass of water. Do I shift to intake of electrolytes?

Low urine is sign of dehydration. 6 glasses of water may not be sufficient. Take ors and more normal water so as to have at least 2 ltrs of clear urine, you should be allright, intimate progress after 6 hrs.

The fact that you have been taking anti anxiety drugs for more than 10 years and still suffer from migraine, anxiety and depression, means your problems are more due to your personality factors than physical causes. You seem to have a very low self esteem and are low on self confidence. You will need to go through intensive psychotherapy. Consult a good psychologist/ psychotherapist, who can help you understand your fears, mental blocks and help you overcome your low self confidence. Medicine can give you temporary relief, unless you change your thought process, you will continue to have difficulties. To begin with, focus on what'you' want in - stop thinking about what people expect you to do. Have a routine for yourself- healthy diet, lots of water (at least 8-10 glasses a day), some physical exercise- yoga, walking, aerobics, dancing- whatever is to your liking. Think positive and set daily goals for yourself.

Excess alcohol dependence is psychological problem. Only strong will power, determination, attending AA meetings and diverting mind when tempted will help you stop alcohol or may need professional help from a psychiatrist or de addiction centre. Try to do meditation and yoga. Read good books and listen to music and if you are believer attend Bhajans Alcohol causes 7 types of cancer, including breast, mouth and bowel cancers. When you drink alcohol, cancer-causing chemicals are formed. Alcohol also affects hormone levels and makes cells even more likely to be damaged by smoking. The less alcohol you drink, the lower the risk of cancer. No type of alcohol is better or worse than another, it is the alcohol itself that leads to the damage, regardless of whether it is in wine, beer or spirits. And drinking and smoking together are even worse for you. Not everyone who drinks alcohol will develop cancer. But on the whole, scientists have found that some cancers are more common in people who drink more alcohol than others. Every year, alcohol causes 4% of cancers .Tips to cut down on alcohol. There are lots of simple ways to cut down on the amount of alcohol you drink. It can help to work out if there are particular times or situations when you tend to have a drink, whether that’s a bad day at work or a weekly pub quiz tradition, and plan what you’ll say and do differently next time. Have more alcohol-free days a week. For liver health it’s best to have at least 2 days off alcohol in a row each week. Try agreeing on certain days with your partner or a friend and help each some wi other and stick to it. If you are planning to drink alcohol, decide on a limit in advance and make sure you don’t go over it. Swap every other alcoholic drink for a soft one – starting with your first drink. Try shandy instead of a pint of beer, or swap ne for soda and have a spritzer. Don’t stock up on beer, wine or spirits at home. Finish one drink before pouring another, because topping up drinks makes it harder to keep track of how much you’ve had and when you planned to stop. Avoid buying drinks in rounds, that way you don’t have to keep pace with anyone. Tell a friend or partner that you’re cutting down on alcohol, they can support you – or even join you.

Antidepressants take 2-3 weeks to start acting. The dose also need to be increased. If you don't tolerate the dose, another antidepressant will be added. Along with these psychosocial therapies need to be done. If you go on changing doctors, every doctor starts with one type of antidepressant. She/he does not get a chance to help you further. Stay with one doctor and ask her/him to refer you another doctor if necessary

Dear, Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Smoking can affect your mouth, throat, lungs, heart, stomach and brain in many ways. Cancer is one among the potential diseases smoking can cause. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. Nicotine chewing gums too help as an alternative for cigarettes. But still you will need will power. You may consult a physician or deaddiction therapist or a rehabilitation facility for further advice. You can also opt for online deaddiction therapy. Take care.
