Dear, Stress is simply a reaction to a stimulus that disturbs our physical or mental equilibrium. In other words, it's an omnipresent part of life. A stressful event can trigger the ?fight-or-flight? response, causing hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol to surge through the body. A little bit of stress, known as ?acute stress,? can be exciting?it keeps us active and alert. But long-term, or ?chronic stress,? can have detrimental effects on health. You may not be able to control the stressors in your world, but you can alter your reaction to them. I need to know, what are the causes with which you are stressed? Once you know the reason, you will be able to adjust with it with some tips and tricks. Please let me know the details. Take care.

Dear lybrate-user, Welcome to Lybrate. Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Nicotine and other chemicals can cause cancer of different types and areas. Throat cancer, mouth cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer and brain problems can result. Over and above smoking may also increase the risk factor of heart attack and brain stroke. Please quit smoking. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. If you’re ready to stop smoking and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from nicotine addiction and abuse abuse—no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating nicotine addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of smoking. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Mind power building therapy, motivation therapy etc should help you doing so. I suggest you to consult a psychologist or de addiction therapist. Take care.

My question is that I am very weak mind person and I want to be intelligent. So, what should I do.?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
You must mention your age in a consultation and your job reason why think you are weak minded.Intelligence is genetically linked and cannot be modified by medicines .. But you can try mind stimulating games and learn relaxation techniques. For more doubts you ask me privately. Anyway take MENTAT tab 1-1-1 and see if it helps. Step by step: 1. Turn off as many distractions in your house as possible ? tv, computers, and even lights ( makes for a good reason to get out some candles) 2. Get into some comfortable clothes and boil a cup of your favourite hot tea 3. Sit in your favourite spot in your house with a nice window to look out. Get a nice pillow to sit cross legged on and drape a warm blanket over your shoulders. 4. Close your eyes, listen to your breath, notice how soft and fleshy your entire being is. 5. Do this for as long as possible up to a half hour ? a trance like relaxation should even occur 6. Take solace in knowing you can get back to your modern day goodies once this is over. You will also be a bit more healthier mentally.

Relax. No one else can do it for u, you have to take charge of your life n body, motherhood completes you, does not stress you unless you perceive it that day, plan your day well, make a time table n stick tio it, incorporate 45mins of exercise n pranayama for yourself, sometimes take a break from daily routine, do not be too sensitive about what others say:)

Dear lybrate user, you both need to learn effective communication skills. The most important aspect is to" listen" to what the other person is saying and also learn how to express your own" feelings" you probably have lots of suppressed anger. And it appears to me that, you have seen people expressing anger aggressively. You will have to understand first, what is making you so angry. Then you will have to look into your perceptions and may be modify them. You can also learn anger management techniques and also learn how to express your feelings without hurting other people. You and your partner, may take an appointment with a counsellor who will help you in sorting out your couple issues. The counsellor will not judge you or blame you hence you can be open with the counsellor. Once you are able express your feelings and needs to your partner, the quality of your relation will improve and you will be able to enjoy life. All the best.

Do some exercise regularly like mm neck exercise etc take plenty of water by mouth. Go for morning walk followed by free hand exercises. And should try to be relax. Things will be alright.

Hi, I'm a acute transient psychosis patient diagnosed at the age of 14. Initially my dosage was very high now im 25 years old consuming 500 mg Divalporate and 50 mg Quitapin plain. Im good when I do not have any relapses and very effective. I completed B. Tech Mechanical with 60 % and got placed in a company as well. Right now im doing software courses. I have few questions: 1 .When I will get rid of my medicine? 2. With these dosage if I can act like a average person so I wonder if im not consuming these medicines I will be more effective with work as well as studies but my relapse will happen in a year or sometime after 2 years. So, is there any alternative for these medicines? 3. I visited many doctors, some say you are suffering from psychosis disorder, some say bipolar or schizophrenia, some say sleeping problems. Why this many doubts in my case. So, what exactly im suffering from? Though I consumed many dosages initially but when I was reviewed with a doctor (Psychiatrist) He advised me the doctors are giving high dosage it can be reduced to minimum. Since then im in contact with that doctor and that is how my dosage is reduced but I want to know whether it can reduced or is there any need of these medicines. I suffer from relapses in a year, sometime 2 years. I will appreciate if any psychiatrist clears my doubts. Thank you.

Dear lybrate-user, Whether you have transient psychosis or bipolar or schizophrenia or sleeping problem, it is for the psychiatrist to diagnose and treat you properly. With this dose you are without relapse and acting like average person. Why do you want to lose those effects of drugs. Bipolar disorder is a relapsing disorder - sometimes with high overconfident mood sometimes with low self esteem sad mood. Both will be kept under control with valproate and quetiapine. During active phase you may need different dose and during normal maintenance phase you will need different dose. Leave the dose decision to the doctor. Each relapse at this age will stagnate your future - mania because you will lose your name, fame and money - depression you will your energy, interest and may lose life by suicide. Why do you want to have relapses? Continue valproate and quetiapine as prescribed.

Hi you already know that I am married to a who is elder than my is 22 and her 38 she is very sexy and but she do not ...
Dear lybrate-user marriage is much more than a physical relationship. Sex is only a very small part of marriage and when it is consensual then it is healthy for the marriage. Forced relationship is an indication of no respect for the feelings of the other person. Secondly, getting pregnant and having a baby is also a mutual decision, which you alone should not be taking without her consent. I think you should give more time to your relationship and try to understand her first before wanting to have a baby. A child is a big responsibility, develop more understanding with your spouse.

Hi there, Headache is something caused by over 30 reasons ranging from diminution of vision or ear related problem to simple stress.... The list may include a form of epilepsy but seems unlikely unless we can rule out more obvious and common causes for this problem.. I believe EEG is not the investigation needed at this point.... Rather going for eye testing be the first step in this.... More over a detailed history is very essential in ruling out most of the likely causes... Feel free to connect further... Plz take care.

Hi, I was an occasional drinker. However off late my drinking has increased and now I drink almost everyday. Eventhough my intake is something like 2 beers at most a day, I have it almost every day. I would like to restrict this habit and be a social drinker. How can I prevent myself from being a full blown alcoholic and control this urge for alcohol.

FECSM ( spain), Fellow of European Society of Sexual Medicine., School of Sexual Medicine, DPM, MBBS
Sexologist, Pune
Hello, this daily drinking habit will lead to dependency. Not sure since hoe long you are having alcohol on daily basis. Find out the triggering factor for alcohol consumption and try to solve it. Do you get craving for alcohol? if you have withdrawal symptoms I would advice you to meet nearby psychiatrist and get treated. You can have dinner before your usual time of drinking which would reduce your craving. Avoid going out with bad company. Spend quality time with family. Try to wake up early morning and practice yoga, breathing exercise, jogging, meditation etc which will keep you motivated. Start taking b complex tablets.

Face your fear. Spend some time in government hospital, outside postmartum house, cremation centres, funeral ceremonies, slums and also join marriage ceremonies, birth ceremonies. Overall take out yourself from imaginary world completely based on hopes and expectations. SEE AND ACCEPT GOOD AND BAD BOTH. And after that when you feel yourself as viewer TRY TO MAKE BALANCE IN IMAGINATION AND REALITY. But please take yourself out of fear first.

MS - Counselling and Psychotherapy, MPHIL

Dear lybrate-user There can be many reasons for anger and irritability, the best way to understand if there are any underlying cause for it will be to consult a professional. Meanwhile you can incorporate some basic activities like listening to soothing music, exercising at least for minimum 20 mins daily, doing basic breathing exercises, walking for 10 mins everyday and a healthy diet. All of this will certainly calm you down but won't totally eliminate the issue. So please consult someone and take help for it. All the best!

I am 22 years old female. I forget the things which I read. What I should do to remember?

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear lybrate-user, welcome to lybrate. Memory and mind power depends mainly on three aspects. Understanding, storage and recollection. To understand what you are studying, you must be able to be attentive or concentrate. Concentration is possible when you are interested in that subject. Creative way of learning can help you concentrate and understand easily. When you are able to understand and concentrate, it is stored within your brain. If you read more and more it will be store in long term memory. Third part is retrieval. Whenever you want to retrive what you learned and stored, your brain gets the request, searches the database and retrieves the information for you. The retrieval may prove to be difficult if you are anxious, stressed, worried or tired physically or mentally. Retrieval is more easy when you are relaxed and healthy. Brain needs nutrients to keep itself sharp. Fruits, vegetables and dry fruits provide much needed nutrients for your brain. Include at least one fruit in your daily diet. Physical exercises, entertainment, hobbies, relaxation, memory games like sudoku etc help keep your memory sharp and active. Take care.
