I am a student and what should I do to enhance my memorizing power. pls tell me what should I do?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
If you are under stress you will have a problem. So seek the help of a counselor to de-stress and you will be quite fine with your memorizing ability. Here are some things you can do to get back your concentration and memory: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid junk food.

Dear sir/madam , I am so addicted to cigarette as my cigarette stick counts from min 10 to 20 or even 30 per day. Smoking is deeply rooted into my behavior. It will be great if you advice the way to leave it in a proper way as sudden leaving makes my life imbalance.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Cigarette contains more than 4000+ chemicals which can cause many physical and mental problems. Nicotine is addictive and causes addiction. Smoking can cause cancer and other physical problems. The best method to quit smoking is to use your will power and sustain it with your will power. There are other methods like deaddiction therapy. I suggest online counseling and deaddiction therapy. Take care.

Hi, I am 28/years old and please tell how I fit and live without any tension. And how to control my hyper Ness.

Hi, I am 28/years old and please tell how I fit and live without any tension. And how to control my hyper Ness.
Hye. A healthy lifestyle involves, choosing a balanced diet and healthy eating plan. A healthy eating plan: Emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts Choose foods low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars A healthy eating plan that helps you manage your health includes a variety of foods you may not have considered. If" healthy eating" makes you think about the foods you can't have, try refocusing on all the new foods you can eat—  All seasonal fruits are great. Vegetables ― try something new each week, as per season. Commit to going to the green grocery and trying a new vegetable each week. Calcium-rich foods ― not only milk but curd, paneer or nuts and seeds and some vegetables and pulses too. A new twist on an old favorite ― if your favorite recipe calls for frying fish or breaded chicken, try healthier variations using baking or grilling. Maybe even try a recipe that uses paneer or soya nuggets in place of higher-fat meats. Healthy eating is all about balance. You can enjoy your favorite foods even if they are high in calories, fat or added sugars. The key is eating them only once in a while, and balancing them out with healthier foods and more physical activity.

Hi, I am a regular smoker I have been smoking from last 5 years I guess but yesterday something unusual happened with me as I came home after smoking. I saw blood coming out of my nose is that a serious issue or it happens with everyone?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
It is serious and must be investigated to know what is the damage and the likely cause. You have been smoking from the age of 15 years and so the damage for teenagers is more because your nerves were still forming and completing its formation. You have not mentioned the quantity of cigarettes consumed but it is certain to have increased over the years to be in excess. You need to stop smoking immediately and visit the doctor to check on this bleeding.

How to Treat Depersonalization Disorder?

MBBS, M.D Psychiatry , Diploma In Psychological Medicine

How to Treat Depersonalization Disorder?

A person suffering from depersonalization disorder often feels detached from their thoughts and is often faced with a steange feeling that you are being separated from your emotions and your body. Feeling disconnected from his or her surrounding environment is one of the main symptoms of depersonalization disorder. An affected person might feel like an alien, living in a world of fantasy and fear of getting crazy or depressed, anxious and panicky. A patient with depersonalization disorder does not lose his contact with reality and realizes that his perceptions are unreal. This health condition is a form of dissociative disorder, where the brain gets affected.

Treatment: People seeking treatment for depersonalization disorder are primarily concerned with the associated symptoms such as anxiety and disorder. Treatment is required when the disorder is recurring or long lasting, and when the symptoms cause severe distress. The aim of the treatment is to eliminate all causes of stress when the symptoms show up. The method of treatment depends on the nature of the triggers and on the severity of the symptoms. Here is a list of the most effective treatment methods:

  1. Psychotherapy: Psychotherapy is an effective treatment procedure for depersonalization disorder. Psychological techniques are used to help an affected person recognize his feelings and for communicating his thoughts to a therapist. Thoughts which may lead to depersonalization experience are expressed by a person in this process. Cognitive therapy is utilized for changing dysfunction thought patterns in an affected person.
  2. Medication: There are no medicines for the general treatment of depersonalization disorder. Several medicines are used to treat the symptoms. In patients who experience depression and severe anxiety, antidepressant and antianxiety medicines may be prescribed. Antipsychotic medicines are also used to cure disordered thinking and improper perception of reality.
  3. Family therapy: Family therapy educates the affected person's family about the disorder, its causes and the family members learn how to recognize the symptoms.
  4. Creative therapy: Creative therapies, such as art therapy or music therapy, enable a patient to recognize and express his feelings better in a creative and safe way.
  5. Clinical hypnosis: This process involves intense relaxation, concentration and focus of attention in order to achieve an altered state of consciousness. This makes a patient more aware, and he can explore his thoughts and feelings, which have been absent from his conscious mind.

Complete recovery from depersonalization disorder is possible for most of the patients. The symptoms go away by themselves after treatment. Treatment makes a person more effective in dealing with stress or trauma, which might act as triggers for further recurrence of this disorder. Treatment is necessary and avoiding treatment might cause severe complications later. It is recommended to consult a doctor for the best treatment measures.

7 Ways to Remember Anything Research-based strategies to boost your memory and keep it strong 7 Strategies for Remembering 1.Become interested in what you're learning. We're all better remembering what interests us. Few people, for example, have a difficult time remembering the names of people they find attractive. If you're not intrinsically interested in what you're learning or trying to remember, you must find a way to become so. 2.Find a way to leverage your visual memory. You'll be surprised by how much more this will enable you to remember. For example, imagine you're at a party and are introduced to five people in quick succession. How can you quickly memorize their names? Pick out a single defining visual characteristic of each person and connect it to a visual representation of their name, preferably through an action of some kind. Remember: Memory is predominantly visual. 3.Create a mental memory tree. If you're trying to memorize a large number of facts, find a way to relate them in your mind visually with a memory tree. Construct big branches first, then leaves. Branches and leaves should carry labels that are personally meaningful to you in some way, and the organization of the facts ("leaves") should be logical. 4.Associate what you're trying to learn with what you already know. It seems the more mental connections we have to a piece of information, the more successful we'll be in remembering it. This is why using mnemonics. Write out the items to be memorized over and over and over. 5.When reading for retention, summarize each paragraph in the margin. This requires you to think about what you're reading, recycle it, and teach it to yourself again. Even take the concepts you're learning and reason forward with them; apply them to imagined novel situations, which creates more neural connections to reinforce the memory. 6.Do most of your studying in the afternoon. Though you may identify yourself as a "morning person" or "evening person" at least one Study. Suggests your ability to memorize isn't influenced as much by what time of day you perceive yourself to be most alert but by the time of day you actually study—afternoon appearing to be the best. 7.Get adequate sleep to consolidate and retain memories. Not just at night after you've studied but the day, you study as well. Far better to do this than to stay up cramming all night for an exam. All fruits are good increasing vitamins in the body.

Dear user. I can understand. You are 30 years and yo must have married for some years. The basic of sound husband-wife family relationship is mutual trust. You should not suspect your husband on any aspect. Because such doubt ruins the foundation of relationship. I suggest online counseling for you. Take care.

Hello sir, my problem is mental rather then physical. People around me often say that I take too much stress about studies and that's why I'm not happy with my life but when I see myself it doesn't seem like I'm stressed at all. Maybe a bit tensed about what's going to happen next but nothing more then that. I want to make sure that I live and enjoy the present and forget about the future. Can't you guide me how I can overcome this issue. Don't get me wrong I'm not an unhappy person, I'm just confused and want to focus more on the present and don't want to worry too much about the past or present.

The important thing is you are enjoying what you are doing. It is a good thing that you are putting effort in your studies without undue stress. You hard work now will pay dividends later. But anything in excess is bad. Putting in hard work during student days is essential. At the same time enjoying life in a healthy way is a basic requirement. Best wishes.
