Our suggestion would be to do hot water fermentation along with Cold (ice) therapy. You shall also keep a pillow under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes.

Angioedema - 11 Reasons Why It Can Happen!

Angioedema - 11 Reasons Why It Can Happen!

The body’s reacts to anything suspicious by developing an allergic reaction. Some of the common substances inducing this reaction include certain food substances, pollen, insect bites and certain metals. This body recognises these suspicious substances as antigens and produces what is known as antibodies. These produce various allergic reactions in the body ranging from something as minor as a skin rash to something drastically fatal as respiratory distress and even death.

Features:

  1. Angioedema is one of the most severe forms of allergic reactions.
  2. Translated literally as swelling of the blood vessels, angioedema causes swelling of the blood vessels in the underlying layers and this can lead to the formation of giant hives.
  3. The hives or rashes are extremely itchy, reddish, and can vary in shape (oval or circular). The hives also are warm and painful when touched.
  4. Angioedema usually affects the skin but can have more severe effects like blocking the airway and leading to respiratory distress

Causes: Angioedema is usually caused by one of the following:

  1. Insect bites or stings
  2. People with allergies to foods like peanuts, eggs, milk, shellfish, chocolates, tree nuts, etc.
  3. Pollen, animal dander, latex, poison ivy, and other common allergens
  4. Medicines like penicillin, aspirin, ibuprofen, and some anti-hypertensives
  5. Autoimmune skin disorders like lupus
  6. Reaction to incompatible blood transfusions
  7. Weather conditions like extremes of cold, heat, or pressure
  8. Infections like hepatitis, cytomegalovirus infections, Epstein-Barr infections, etc.
  9. Conditions like leukaemia and thyroid disorders
  10. Extreme emotional stress
  11. Genetic angioedema, inherited from parents by children, which can last forever

Risk factors: Though hives usually develop without any warning signs, the following are some risk factors for developing angioedema.

  1. Previous history of allergies
  2. Predisposition to develop allergic reactions (overactive immune system)
  3. Genetic history of allergies, especially of angioedema

Diagnosis:

  1. In first-time patients, a detailed history with deep dive into similar instances in the past will be done
  2. A physical exam to check for missed hives (like the back) is then done
  3. Allergy testing may also be required to test if a person has a high predisposition to allergies
  4. Blood testing to check for eosinophils, which is usually high in patients with allergies, is done.
  5. Allergy testing to identify the trigger agent may be done if trigger is not known. This will help in preventing further attacks.
  6. If genetic angioedema is suspected, C1 esterase inhibitor test and complement particles are also checked.

Treatment:
Non-medical treatment including loose clothing, cool compresses, and copiously moisturizing to reduce dryness and itching. This is usually sufficient in majority of the cases.
Medical: Antihistamines like cetirizine and loratadine are the next line of treatment. Very severe cases may require steroids like prednisone. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Hi, generally back pain may be due several reasons, PIVD is among one of them, that is already ruled out. Other supporting structures and musculature are the reason for pain in 80-90%of cases. Most of the time it must be because of iliolimber region pain. In your case physical evaluation is required before starting any treatment.

Frozen Shoulder - Exercises That Can Be Of Great Help!

Frozen Shoulder - Exercises That Can Be Of Great Help!

Frozen shoulder (also known as adhesive capsulitis) is a condition in which the shoulder is stiff, painful, and has limited motion in all directions. A person suffering from a frozen shoulder can be pretty uncomfortable.

Frozen shoulder treatment should be done immediately once it has been detected. Stretching exercises are considered as the best-frozen shoulder treatment exercises. A proper warm up becomes very necessary before any exercise. Making the area warm by using a heating pad is one of the warm-up methods. However, a warm shower covers it all. Physiotherapy for frozen shoulder includes various exercises that should be first confirmed by a doctor. There are a number of exercises for frozen shoulder.

Some very important frozen shoulder exercises are listed below:

  1. Pendulum Stretch: To start with, you can do the pendulum stretch. This dictates that the shoulders should be in a state of relaxation, initially, following which the arm which is affected should be allowed to hang down slightly. Once this is done, the arm is to be swung in a small circle i.e. about a foot in diameter. This is to be done consistently so that there can be a gradual improvement in the condition. As there is an improvement, the size of the circle can be increased and once the shoulder can take sufficient weight again, minor weights (up to five pounds) can be used.
  2. Finger Walk: A simple exercise which can be done almost anywhere is the finger walk. What this exercise entails is that the person stands about three-fourths of an arm’s length away from a wall and then places his or her fingers on the wall itself, at around the level of the waist. The fingers are to crawl or walk up the wall till the point that it becomes a little uncomfortable. While this is just one repetition, after the fingers have been lowered, it is to be done again. In order to have the best results in combating frozen shoulder, the finger walk exercise is to be repeated about twenty times in a day.
  3. Towel Stretches: Towels do not serve a greater role apart from drying up post a bath or over the course of a visit to the spa, right? Well, this is not really true due to the fact that they can be used to even help with frozen shoulder! Indeed, towel stretches done by holding the towel with each hand across one’s back. The arm which is normal should then pull the affected arm so it is stretched. As is the case with the finger walk, about 20 repetitions a day is ideal for good results.

If one goes a step forward and follows a regime of with all these exercises, the person suffering due to frozen shoulder will be back to normal in almost no time at all!
