Adult Vaccination - Everything About It!
Adult Vaccination - Everything About It!

Hello,

Namaskar, mein Dr Neha Gupta hu. Mein Infectious Diseases Specialist hu. I am from the first batch of Infectious Diseases Specialists in india and mein aaj aapko adult vaccinations se sambandhit kuch jaankaari dena chahungi. So normally ye socha jaata hai ki vaccination is just for babies. But vaccination is not only for babies and now we have this concept of adult vaccination, jisme ki bade logon ko bhi teeke(vaccination) lagaye jaate hai. Jis se ki unme infections na ho. So as age advances i.e. usually after 50 or 65 years of age ya fir un logon mein jinme ki koi aur beemari hai, jaise patients jinko diabetes hai ya liver disease hai ya kidney disease hai ya fir heart ki takleef hai, toh inn saare patients mein infections hone ki sambhavna jyada ho jaati hai. Toh inko prevent karne ke liye ab humare paas vaccines hai jinko lagane se infections nahi hoti.

So most commonly we have vaccines which are called Pneumococcal vaccines, usually Prevnar 13 or Pneumovax 23 vaccines, depending on the co-morbit conditions which can be used and ye vaccines pneumococal bactaria se sambandhit infections ko prevent karte hai. So pneumonia ya uss se jyada complicated infections se, brain ke infections bhi pneumococal vaccines se prevent kiye ja sakte hai. Iske alawa influenza like illnesses like swine flu ya other flu infections ko bhi prevent karne ke liye humare paas flu vaccines available hai, jo usually har saal ek nayi flu vaccine aati hai to tackle or prevent the new strain of influenza. Iske alawa Hepatitis B, HIV ki hi tarah Hepatitis B abhi curable nahi hai, but HIV mein humare paas vaccines available nahi hai, par hepatitisB mein humare paas vaccines hai aur inn vaccines ko lagane se hepatitis B jaisi beemari, jis se ki sometimes liver damage ho sakta hai, vo bhi prevent ki sakti hai. So pregnancy mein bhi kai infections hoti hai jaise ki Rubella, toh isko bhi prevent karne k liye humare paas vaccines available hai, aur jiska istemal karne se pregnancy mein infections prevent ho sakte hai aur bachche ko bhi inn infections se bachaya ja sakta hai.

Iske alawa, adults, jaise teenagers mein Meningococcal, meningitis jis se ki brain ke infections jaisi gambhir beemari ho sakti hai, toh usko bhi prevent karne ke liye humare paas vaccines hai jaise ki Menctra ya meningococcal vaccine, jisse ki young bachchon mein ye infection prevent kiye ja sakte hai. Iske alawa there are lot of times, there is increase in global travel, people are travelling to other places like Africa, South America, jaha pe ki kuch infections jaisi ki Yellow fever hai aur vo bahut khatarnak hota hai. Isliye Yellow fever vaccine inn places mein jaane se pahle aap laga sakte hai, taki aapko ye saare infections na ho. Antibiotic resistance, ek gambhir mamla hai, common bactria bhi itne resistant ho jaate hai, jis se humare paas kai baar common infections ko treat karne ke liye bhi anti biotics nahi hoti. Toh most important hai, hum infections ko hi bachayein, and vaccination seems to be a way forward for preventing infections.

Thank you.

HIV & Sexually Transmitted Diseases - What Should You Know?
HIV & Sexually Transmitted Diseases - What Should You Know?

Hello,

Mein doctor Neha Gupta, Infectious Diseases Specialist . Aaj mein aap logo ko HIV aur sexually transmitted diseases ko baare mein kuch batana chahungi. Sabse jyada ye important hai ki hum HIV ya sexually transmitted diseases ko kis tarah se prevent kar sakte hai. Toh uske liye sabse pehle it is important to know the status of your partner. Toh aap shadi se pehle ya kisi se sambandh hone se apne partner ka status jaan le. Kyuki kai baar aisa hota hai ki patient ko HIV hota hai ya koi infection ho sakta hai aur vo usko pata bhi nahi hota. Toh isliye please know the status of your partner before you are getting involved with that person. Secondly, it's very important to have safe sexual practices.

Use barrier precaution before any such event. Aur teesra, most importantly, in case aapke kisi ke sath aise sambandh ho jaate hai ya aisa koi incident ho jata hai jisme aapko pata nahi hai ki apke partner ka kya status hai, toh uss condition mein bhi humare paas kuch effective medications hai, jinka istemal Karne se ye beemariya hone se hum rok sakte hai. Toh HIV ko prevent karne ke liye there are certain medications which are available and which should be taken specially within the first 72 hours. Jitna jaldi ho sake utna le le toh behtar rahega, lekin fir bhi 72 hours ke andar agar aap ye dawaiya lete hai toh fir HIV se aap bach sakte hai.

Aur infact ye dawaiya aajkal jo bhi available hai vo bhot safe hai aur inke side effect nahi hote hai unse. And usually 28 days ke liye lena padta hai. Iske ilawa we also have something called pre exposure prophylaxis ie if you are anticipating such an event that aisa possibility hai ki kisi ke sath apke sambandh ho sakte hai aur uss condition mein bhi aap vo particular event hone se pehle kuch dawaiya le sakte hai jis se ki aap ko HIV na ho. Ye saare recent advances hai humare paas jo ki post exposure and pre exposure prophylaxis kahlate hai aur inka istemal karne se HIV jaisi beemari bhi prevent ho sakti hai.

Thank you.
