Hi, as per the need of an adult male, daily intake of 11 milligrams zinc necessary. Instead of going for zinc supplements in medication, you can go ahead with adding zinc rich food in your diet. Like, spinach, mushroom, garlic, beef, crabs, peanuts, cashews, dark chocolate etc. Revert back if still interested to have medication homoeopathically. God bless.

Hello, Lybrate user, Anxiety & stress influence our nervous system making neurons hyper which has electrochemical property ,too, raised when stress and anxiety is mount up,  producing jerks & sock like feeling ,involuntarily and a person feel electric shock in the body. •Such feeling is nothing like a serious disorder to be worried about,  simply one has to reduce stress and anxiety to regularise the nervous system. •You need to go for meditation to reduce your stress and to calm your nerves to ease electrical waves to check electrical shock like feelings. •It's essential to ensure 6/7 hours sound sleep in the night to keep nervous system in order. •You need to tk, 4/5 glass of water to eliminate toxins to dilute blood to reach brain smoothly carrying oxygen to neurons. •Your diet be regular, easily digestible on small intervals to avoid gastric disorder which might add your problem. tk, care.

Hello, Gaining weight in a healthy way is not ROCKET science. It just takes knowing a little bit about muscle physiology and exercise science. If you are not gaining weight than do not look much further for the answer. It is really not that complicated and really only breaks down to one or two or all of the following: 1. You do not maintain energy balance (Energy In vs. Energy Out). 2. You do not eat the right foods at the right times (poor food combinations). 3. You do not give your muscles enough stimulus (or reason) to grow. ENERGY BALANCE Here is the easiest way to understand energy balance: Energy Balance = Energy Intake – Energy Expenditure The balance of intake versus outtake is a critical starting point in weight gain or loss. If you have a SURPLUS of calories (positive energy balance) where the intake EXCEEDS the expenditure, you gain weight. If you have a DEFICIT of calories (negative energy balance) where the intake is LESS than expenditure, you lose weight. Simple enough. Now remember that a surplus of calories is ONLY one component of gaining weight! Three thousand calories of junk and empty calories is COMPLETELY different from 3000 calories of high quality carbs, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. Anybody who does not understand this does not understand the theory that a calorie is not a calorie. (You can determine your daily calorie intake using a good online calorie calculator or you can ask your general physician.) NUTRITION So in order to gain healthy muscle mass you need to provide your body with the essential nutrients it needs to promote new muscle growth. A healthy diet for most people is one that includes 5-7 portions of vegetables and fruits a day (a good balance is 3-4 vegetables and 2-3 fruits, 2-3 portions of whole grains such as whole grain barley, brown rice, and oats, and 2-3 portions of lean protein such as skinless chicken, low-fat plain yogurt, lentils, or eggs. Your diet should also include regular amounts of fish oils, nuts and seeds, plant oils, herbs, and spices. Remember, no one food can make you healthy on its own—aim instead for a varied and balanced diet. This means trying to include many of the seasonal fruits, vegetables and other foods into your diet on a regular basis, and varying your choices daily.

Scoliosis - Poor Awareness And Social Stigma Leads To Delayed Diagnosis in India

Scoliosis - Poor Awareness And Social Stigma Leads To Delayed Diagnosis in India

Awareness is the key to catch it early and reduce the risks associated.

  • Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curve in the spine. Normally the spine has a straight alignment when seen from the front or back. A sideways curve in the spine can develop due to a various reasons at different stages of growth. As the spine grows taller, there is a tendency for the curves to worsen and can become severe by the time the kid reaches skeletal maturity.
  • The curve in the spine is associated with rotation of the spinal column to one side. As the ribs attached to the spine rotate along with it, it leads to a rib hump in the back on one side and prominence of chest wall in the front on the other side. A curve in the lower spine leads to asymmetry in the waist lines. It is usually the rib hump or asymmetrical waist line that brings the problem to notice, usually at a time when the kid is growing rapidly.
  • Severe curves distort the chest cavity and reduce the space available for the lungs, thereby reducing the breathing capacity, especially if the scoliosis starts before 5 years of age (early onset scoliosis). This is known to significantly reduce life expectancy due to failure of lung and heart function over the years. In some with severe curves, the spinal cord function may get affected leading to progressive weakness in lower limbs and eventually loss of ability to walk. But the most common and important complaint with scoliosis is the cosmetic appearance and related problems. The social stigma and misconceptions associated with these deformities  is often the reason for the parents not seeking medical opinion earlier. The child may suffer low confidence due to self perceived defective body image, affecting their performance in studies and sports.
  • Common cause of scoliosis in infants and toddlers is a bony defect in the spine resulting in asymmetrical growth in both sides of the spine leading to a rapidly worsening curve (known as Congenital scoliosis). A bony defect during development of skeleton in the womb or during growth after birth is usually associated with birth defects in other systems like heart, kidneys and other bones and can be detected at or soon after birth. In some, it is a nerve or muscle disorder leading to muscle imbalance resulting in a curve in the spine (known as Neuromuscular scoliosis, for example: Poliomyelitis, cerebral palsy). But majority of scoliosis that is noticed in second decade of life has no known cause and is called Idiopathic scoliosis.
  • Treatment options include serial observations, spinal braces, and surgical correction of the deformity depending on various factors in each individual patient.
  • But the most important factor that may help reduce the severity of the problem is early detection and treatment. The risks involved in surgical correction of a severe curve are much more than in a smaller curve detected much earlier. Newer techniques like growing rods can be used in those with early onset scoliosis to prevent compromise of lung and heart function while allowing the spine to grow in a better alignment. Consult a Spine specialist if you notice any suspicious curve / asymmetry in the back in your kid.

Dear lybrate-user, the reports which you have put for your father here, few are normal and few are in prediabetes range. To remove any doubt I would suggest you to get the following tests done 1) HbA1c % 2) Fasting blood glucose (after 12 hour fast overnight) 3) 2 hour post 75 gram gluccon-D blood glucose [take 75 gram glucon D dissolved in a glass of water, and measure blood glucose 2 hours after glucose intake] 4) It is advisable to get a lipid profile done also With these reports please consult an endocrinologist.

My husband's age is 35. He is suffering from type 2 diabetes from past 2 years. Recently he is suffering from body aches, and kidney pains and pain in legs. Are this all because of diabetes ?he is using positive homeopathy medicines. But still there is no improvement in his sugar levels they are always between 300 to 350 after lunch and dinner. Please suggest us how to proceed for further treatments.

lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. Madam for treating diabetes effectively one has to take modern anti-diabetic drugs, plus restricted diet and also do regular exercise and maintain near normal weight. There are no medicines in either homeopathy or any other pathies to reduce blood glucose. Therefore, he has to shift to modern specific anti-diabetic drugs. Therefore, if you are keen in getting correct treatment, please send following details: Fasting, PP glucose levels, HbA1c%, dietary pattern, extent of daily exercise, weight, height, BP readings, lipid profile & urea & creatinine levels. It is better if you come in a private conversation (paid consultation), then I will be able to give specific guidance and even prescribe specific medications. All the symptoms described can be controlled only if blood glucose is well controlled. Otherwise in addition to present symptoms there can be other long term complications of the disease too. If you are not interested in online help, please contact a good diabetologist locally and initiate appropriate treatment. Do not waste time on the present medications that he is taking. Thanks.
