This could have a direct impact on all of their organs and may eventually lead to a variety of health problems. There are ways to get into the shape we desire and to gain weight fast. This would require understanding the reason for low weight and maintaining a diet for weight gain. Importance of Yoga for Children

Diploma in Child Health (DCH)
Pediatrician, Kannur

Many parents complain about bad behavior of their children. It is extremely unfortunate that parents are not giving sufficient attention to mental health of children. When we say 'health is wealth' and 'prevention is better than cure' why do we think only about physical health? mental health is more important than physical health. That is why our wise ancestors said that the mind is responsible for one's happiness or sorrow depending on how it is handled. We should integrate yoga into our lives if we want to be happy and teach yoga to our children if we want them to behave well.

The weight gain in the body is due to the more of the calories in your diet than you burn in the whole day. One should eat balanced diet comprising of carbohydrates-30%, protein-50% and fat 20% in right ratio with a maximum of 1200-1500 calories per day. To keep satiety at meals increase your protein and lower your cabs content, these wills the amount of food in next meal and thus decrease calorie consumption. Good choices of protein to be opted are: egg white sprouts mushroom oats chicken and fish drink plenty of water and do not include high density source of calorie rich snacks like nuts and seeds. Make sure to include workout schedule at least 5 times a week along with maintaining rest session and complete sleep for a healthy body and mind.

How to increase the stamina and which are the safe days to have sex with out condom so that I women does not get pregnant.

How to increase the stamina and which are the safe days to have sex with out condom so that I women does not get preg...
Exercise is a best way to increase your stamina and boost your blood circulation. Regularly stretch your legs and hand muscles to avoid cramps. And in safe period Calculator Method, the safe period depends on the life span of sperm and on the life span of the egg. The average time of ovulation is the 14th day of an average length (28 day) menstrual cycle. Ovulation time vary for each individual, and can occur from 12th to 19th day of the cycle. Sperm can live up to 3 to 5 days in a woman's reproductive tract, so it is possible to become pregnant if unprotected sex occurs 5 days before ovulation. The life span of the typical egg is relatively short, only around 24 hours. If fertilization does not occur within that time frame, the egg will die. So eighth to twenty first day of your menstrual cycle, counting from first day, is considered as the fertile period or the UNSAFE period, and days other than this are considered SAFE, that is, the 1st-7th day of the cycle and then again from the 22nd to the 28th day. Opting to have intercourse during the €˜safe period is not a fool-proof though. Using contraception like condoms or oral pills are advised to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Hope this answers your query. Your feedback matters. Thank-you.

I have belly fat. Give me some tips to reduce it. Is the gym workout is solution for this? Help me.

General Physician,
I have belly fat. Give me some tips to reduce it. Is the gym workout is solution for this? Help me.
Breathing Exercises to Lose Belly Fat Let us briefly understand on how these work. Oxygen acts as fuel for the body. The extra oxygen that you inhale while performing the breathing exercises result in certain chemical reactions that in turn burns up more calories than you actually take in. You lose extra fat. Pavanmuktasan – for practising Pavanmuktasan, take a deep breath as you lie on your back. Bend you left knee, hold your toes and pull it towards your stomach. Simultaneously lift your head and touch your bent knee. Your other leg must be straight. Breathe in and count ten. Return to your original position and breathe out. Repeat the set with your right leg. Bhujangasan – for practising Bhujangasan lie on your stomach and place your hands under your shoulders. Lift your torso backwards using only the back muscles and not your hands. Hold your breath for 5-10 seconds and slowly return to your original position as you breathe out. Dhanurasan – Lie on your stomach and bend your knees. Hold your ankles as you breathe in. Push your body outwards in the shape of a bow and pull your head back as much as possible. Hold this position for 10 seconds and release the posture as you slowly breathe out. Exercises for Losing Belly Fat Some very simple but effective exercises to Lose Belly Fat Stretch 1 – Lie down on a floor mat. Position your legs vertically up and stay in this position for 5 to 15 seconds. This can be repeated thrice. Stretch 2 – Lie down on a floor mat. Stretch your legs straight. Place your hands behind your head and lock your fingers. Now raise your torso and bring it towards your knees. Stay in this position for 5 to 10 seconds and slowly return to your lying position. Repeat this for 15 times in sets of 5. Stretch on Chair – Lie down on a floor mat and position yourself with a chair so as to raise your legs on the chair. Your legs should be at 90 degree to the rest of your body. Place your hands behind your head and clasp your fingers. Now lift your torso and rise up as if you want to touch the knees. Continue for 15 minutes and repeat in sets of 3 or 4. Cycling – Lie down on a floor mat. Raise your legs and rotate them as if you are pedalling a cycle vigorously. Repeat the exercise for five minutes in sets of three.

Relaxation Therapy

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Relaxation Therapy
Relaxation techniques share two components: the repetitive focus (on a word, sound, prayer, phrase, body sensation, or muscular activity) and adoption of a passive attitude (towards intrusive thoughts.)
They induce relaxation response characterized by decreased arousal and diminished sympathetic activity (decreased heart rate and lower blood pressure) and increased EEG slow wave activity.
Relaxation techniques may be subdivided into two methods, deep and brief, or by the specific strategy used to induce the relaxed state, including progressive muscle relaxation, autogenic training and breath training.
Adverse reactions are intrusive thoughts, fear of losing control, upsetting sensory experiences, muscle cramps, sexual arousal and psychotic symptoms
Adverse reactions are relaxation–induced anxiety or relaxation-induced panic.
Relaxation–induced anxiety is a gradual increase in behavioral, physiologic, and psychological anxiety, whereas relaxation–induced panic is severe anxiety of rapid onset.
Patients with a history of generalized anxiety disorder or panic disorder and those with a history of hyperventilation are more likely to experience these adverse effects.
Patients should also be introduced to deep breathing techniques that often accompany relaxation in a gradual manner and not more than couple of minutes at a time.
Relaxation techniques can relieve pain in cancer

Hello, As i can see you have not put on much in your pregnancy, but do take care that you don't put on weight during lactating period. It is a common notion that you need to eat for two, specially from the mothers, so i would like to suggest you take in 500 calories more, which you will get from eating 2 more chapatis, 1 catorie more of rice and from 1 serving of vegetables and 2 serving of fruits. Also you will take into consideration the ghee and oil and all the sweets. Have small meals rather that three large meals and also have lote of water. Since you have had a C-section, dont jump in strenious exercises without consultation with your Gyneac. Do come for consultation for details diet chart

I am 30 yr old (M). My height is 168cm. I weigh only 45kg. I am underweight according to my height. I eat a lot but have been this way for the past 10 years. My weight varies between 45 and 48. What may be the reason and how can i increase to a recommended weight?

BSc Home Science, M.Sc - Dietitics / Nutrition

It depends upon individual person's metabolic rate: If your body is burning more calories than you are taking - your weight would reduce. Second thing how active you are? As such you need to eat 1 gm of protein per kg of your ideal body wt - i.e. 70 gms protein. If you are in Bangalore, or you want to do a diet consultation, it will take one hr to identify exactly what you are doing insufficient and what should be done now in order to gain healthy weight. I will tell you in much details.

10 Tips for Staying Healthy With Type 2 Diabetes

MBBS, MD, FAIIDR

10 Tips for Staying Healthy With Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is commonly seen in adults, but nowadays its prevalence is rapidly increasing in young adults and even teenagers. It is a chronic disorder that adversely affects the way your body processes and metabolizes the glucose (blood sugar).

In Type 2 Diabetes, your body either resist the effects of insulin, a hormone that controls the sugar flow into the cells or does not produce adequate insulin to maintain a normal glucose level. Incorporating a healthy living, with the focus being on eating healthy and exercising regularly (for about 30-45 minutes) can help keep Diabetes Type 2 in check.

  1. Take small and frequent meals i.e. 4-6 times a day spread across regular time intervals. Also, carry a quick fix of carbs that can come to aid when the sugar levels drop.
  2. Foods rich in fiber and complex carbohydrates, such as bread, vegetables, fruits and whole grain cereals should be at the top of the priority food list. Stay away from fatty or fried food.
  3. Keep a check on your glucose level regularly at home with the help of a blood glucose meter.
  4. A three monthly HBA1C test (three-month average blood sugar) can help to know overall blood sugar control.
  5. Limit consumption of alcohol and completely cut down on tobacco.
  6. Get up from your couch and hit the nearest jog course or do the exercise of your choice. There is no substitute to physical activities if you are on your way to control Diabetes; be if any type.
  7. Assess cholesterol and blood pressure count periodically.
  8. Because of nerve damage and poor blood circulation, your foot may have to bear the brunt of this disorder as well. Take good care of your feet. Check your feet for swelling, red spots and blisters; wear special shoes with a soft pair of socks that can keep your feet dry. Get your feet examine by special instruments for blood circulation and sensation in feet.
  9. Diabetes damages oral health as well. Visit a dentist for a gum and tooth checkup at least a couple of times in a year.
  10. Get your kidneys and retina tested as diabetes may weaken the blood vessels of these areas.
