Do check matchstick analogy in Gout which will answer all your queries No need to stop any dala or vegetables. Ask her to do exercise and control weight. Avoid junk food. Uric acid as such is not harmful unless associated with Gout. Your wife doesn't seem to have Gout.

Can Hematuria Be Treated?

DM - Nephrology, MD-Medicine, MBBS
Nephrologist, Delhi
Can Hematuria Be Treated?

The presence of red blood cells in the urine is called hematuria. If there are sufficient red cells, the urine turns to a bright red, pink or cola shade. Frequently, the urine looks totally ordinary because there is insufficient blood to change the colour. In this situation, the condition is called 'microscopic' hematuria.

The most common causes of hematuria are given below:

  1. Urinary tract infection (UTI)
  2. Kidney stones
  3. Tumours in the kidney or bladder
  4. Exercise: In this case, the blood is produced in the urine after strenuous activity. It is more commonly experienced by male patients.
  5. Injury: Traumatic damage to any part of the urinary tract, from the kidneys to the urethral opening, can cause hematuria.

The symptoms of hematuria vary depending upon the condition. These are as follows:

  1. Glomerulonephritis: If the glomerulonephritis is not serious, it may not show any signs. If the symptoms do show up, they can cause swelling, particularly in the lower furthest points(the thighs, legs, feet, and toes), decreased urine, and hypertension.
  2. Kidney or bladder infection: Symptoms rely on the site of the diseaseand can even cause extreme pain on one side of the lower back, fever, chills, nausea with vomiting, and pain in the bladder.
  3. Prostate infection: There can be pain in the lower back or in the region between the scrotum and rearend. Pain with discharge, blood in the semen, andfever and chills can also occuronce in a while.
  4. Tumour in the kidney or bladder: Most kidney and bladder problems develop without bringing about any pain or uneasiness. At the point when side effects build up, abdomen pain may be persistent.
  5. Kidney stones: When a kidney stone gets attached to the ureters, it can bring about extreme pain in the back, side or crotch, with nausea and difficulties in urination.

Based upon the suspected cause of hematuria, some of the treatments may include the following:

  1. Urine culture: In this test, a urine sample is extracted and examined to check whether bacteria has developed. This test is used to find a case of a kidney or bladder disease.
  2. Computed tomography (CT) of the kidneys, ureters and bladder: For most cases,a CT scan is conducted. This helps in viewing the internal organs and finding the areas that may have been affected by the condition. It also shows the extent of the damage and the spread of the disease so that a proper treatment plan may be laid out.
  3. Ultrasound: This test uses sound waves to create images that can show whether or not a kidney mass is a non cancerous. This method can also be used to find out whether or not there are any kidney stones, which may be causing hematuria.
  4. Cystoscopy: In this test, the specialist embeds an adaptable telescope into the urethra and passes it into the bladder to investigate the bladder lining for tumours or different issues.

Uncanny fear grips me at best of times, some occasional sleeplessness exists, Parents left longing for a united family life, before I could settle myself I'm 70 yrs+, had led a reasonably stable professional life of a middle class british educated engineer. Two PhD holder sons are on their way to their professional tracks. Wife's devoted to stability of my health and everybody else but talks (nags mostly) unnecessarily. Am presently working with a MNC on a serious national (make in India) project. Usual work stresses are there but increasingly getting the better of my fears of failures. How do I stabilise myself for my growing family and may be for the benefits my project may bring to the nation.

Well, you are reasonably healthy for your age with nothing serious affecting someone at your age! In the light of your age, and a nagging wife, I suspect that the magnitude of the project you have undertaken may have its pressures, unbeknown to you. One thing is for sure, as you age, your defense mechanisms will wane in strength and some of them may even fail you, then the enormity of common pressures may be high and seem unduly so too. These may be things that you handled in your hey days with pomp but suddenly find yourself fearing the job at hand because of lowered defense mechanisms. If you objectively examine yourself, you will most likely find that these fears are unjustified, and that your knowledge-base is very sound. Knowledge is power, but not so effective, if your previous coping skills are suspect. I don?t know if you have additionally taken a break from work life and returned after a long sabbatical. This can take a toll too. What can be done is really of import right now. I know you are healthy but you may not be adequately fit! I suggest that you do regular exercise, as age and medical advice permits. Do some Yoga and meditation, regularly. Spend some time dealing with your emotions with a counselor. Eat well, sleep is definitely recommended on a priority basis, and share a lot of your work responsibility with some colleagues. You could, in fact, indent for extra hands to facilitate proper outcomes. It is not a sign of weakness but a very sensible thing to do, especially when someone with your knowhow is there but needs the vitality of a young generation to do the actual execution. I figure the management will understand that, if they are of the right caliber. One thing that definitely will help is to focus less on yourself and more on the nation at large and thus broaden your perspective.
