Hi there are various causes for backpain like spasm, slip disc, nerve root compression, arthritic changes etc. A detailed examination is needed to confirm diagnosis. Learn spine mobility and strengthening exercise from physio. Do reply for private consultation and detailed treatment plan.

Hi Doc, I m a 35years old male without a job, married and have 3 kids. I am very much worried with my weight. My height is 5feet 9inches and I weigh approximately 120kgs. I have gone thru the material ober tje internet flowing like flood but tjey all say me to either jog or run on treadmill about an hour or so. I can not really jog or run or neither walk briskly (due to excess weight I suppose). I am happy to walk slowly and gradually increase the speed of my steps. So, here comes the question how can I steadily reduce my weight and melt this excess fat on my body? Would you recommend any plan of action for me to achieve my target goal of 85kgs or less than 90kgs at least? Would you also let me know to follow any home remedies? I know about honey lemon and luke warm water. Apart from that if any wud you recommend me to get thru this tough time that will be really helpful and appreciable. Anticipate a quicker reply as I can not weight to lose weight. Note: I have a knee joint pain at the moment so can not run or jogg. Hello lybrate-user your bmi is 39 which is significantly higher that normal range of 18 to 23. Stretch Calves Get a custom made insole. Hams Stretching. Sports Taping. Hot Fomentation. Standing calf stretch Stand away from a wall and.put your fight foot behind you and be sure your toes are facing forward. Lean forward at the ankle while bending the right knee and keeping your heel on the ground. Hold this for 30 to 60 seconds. Repeat 10 times a twice a day.

For leg pain, please follow the below advise: keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

According to ayurveda you r suffering from sandhi vata. Here I can only advise u. Massage with mahanarayan tail on affected parts followed by light fomentation. Multivitamin and calcium supplements daily.

Hold the position initially for 10 seconds, and gradually work up to 20 to 30 seconds. Seated hamstring stretch while sitting at the edge of a chair, straighten one leg in front of the body with the heel on the floor. Then, sit up straight and try pushing the navel towards the thigh without leaning the trunk of the body forwards. Hold this stretch for 30 seconds repeat 3 times for each leg.

Backache in young age is commonly due to 1. Muscle strain resulting from improper posture. 2. Intervertebral disc bulge or prolapse. Follow these to get relief. 1. Take anti inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen round the clock for pain relief for 4 to 5 days. 2.Take rest for 3 to 4 days but avoid total bed rest. 4. Do back strengthening and stretching exercises daily once pain is relieved and continue these exercises. Daily walk is a good way to strengthen the spine. 5.Apply analgesic cream over back followed by warm fomentation. 6. Keep pillow behind your knees at bedtime. While sleeping on sides keep pillow between knees. 7. Do not bend and lift weights. 8. Avoid sitting on floor or sitting cross-legged or prolonged periods of sitting or standing. 9. If back pain is accompanied with radiating leg pain or tingling, numbness or weakness, consult your doctor. You should also follow ergonomic measures during your daily life. Inform details of your backache and kind of work you do to guide you better regarding lifestyle changes. You should consult a pain specialist in your city for evaluation of your backache as they can identify your pain generator and treat accordingly. For further queries consult again.

My fathers' leg is getting swollen day by day, some times its normal. Did some treatments but no +ve result. Should he have a different diet or a treatment is required?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. There are multiple causes of swelling in legs, it can be postural which goes away when you elevate your limbs. But othere causes are multiple which have to be ruled out mainly cardiac causes, deranged lft, kft, low protein levels, hypothyroidism, vascular causes besides many. Diet rich in proteins can be tried but my advice will be to get him investigated to find out a cause. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Due to pott spine my D8-D9 got infected so I have done spine fusion surgery and it was done 6 months ago. So have two question. 1) can I remove spine instruments that was placed in my spine and if not there will be any side effects from this? 2) please suggest me precautions.

Firstly you need to complete the akt that has been started, religiously following the schedule. Secondly, the implants can be removed once your spine has fused compeletely and it can be confirmed on xrays and if you so wish but really there is no need to remove them and they can remain lifelong. Thirdly regarding your concern for precautions to be taken are: eat high proteinaceous diet of pulses, non veg food and lots of milk, avoid heavy duty ctivities like sports or lifting heavy weights etc. And remember to visit your surgeon regularly for follow up. Thumb joint pain is the result of the wearing away of cartilage in the bones of the thumb. That’s why it is also known as thumb arthritis. The first sign of arthritis in the thumb is pain, tenderness, and stiffness. You’re most likely to feel it at the base of your thumb as you try to grip or clasp something between the thumb and index finger. You might also feel a pain when you try to apply mild force, such as when you twist a key in a lock, turn a door handle, or snap your fingers. Try to avoid clenching your hands when you carry things—this can aggravate symptoms. You should also avoid repetitive movements that involve pinching or twisting. Apply alternating heat and cold to relieve inflammation and pain. A physical or occupational therapist can teach you how to perform range-of-motion exercises to improve function. A splint can provide temporary support for your thumb and wrist, limiting movement so your joints can rest. The added support may ease pain for a while. It can also help with training your joints back into the correct position. You can wear a splint whenever you feel the need throughout the day, or even while you sleep. Check with your doctor or physical therapist to make sure you’re using the splint correctly. If nothing else works, there are some surgical procedures that may help. Best wishes.

Natural lubricants should be applied in order to activate natural lubrication. 'Nasya' is a procedure defined in Ayurveda for addressing nasal problems and others too. 'Nasya' means which is administered through nose. Some herbal nasal oils, selected as per symptoms and complaints, should be administered. Some are pungent, others are soft. So selection is important. Pl send history and info and medicine taken. Till then pl smear clarified butter (ghee) inside nostrils twice a day.
