Hello dear High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. Garlic,. Cod liver oil. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

Dear lybrate user, chest pain can have have multiple reasons. It can be a simple pain originating from the muscles or bones in the chest wall. If pain is brought on by any effort like lifting weights or climbing stairs it might be due to conditions of heart. If it's constant and not brought on by effort, pricking in type it could be due to infection in lung or fluid collection in pleura. I would advise you to consult a physician. Also I would recommend you to take the effort to quit smoking as it poses the highest risk of developing cancer, anywhere in the body.

General Physician,
Experts recommend that lifestyle changes should be added to medication therapy when people with diabetes try to reduce their blood pressure. These changes include reduction of salt intake, weight loss, and moderately intense physical activity, like brisk walking for 30 to 45 minutes most days of the week. A study in 2002 found that 19.3 million American adults had diabetes, and it is estimated that a third of these adults are undiagnosed. Risk factors for diabetes include advancing age, obesity or being overweight, a family history of type 2 diabetes, and being a member of a minority population at increased risk. African-Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, American Indians, Alaska natives, and Asians are at higher risk for type 2 diabetes. It is estimated that an additional 26% of the US adult population has "pre-diabetes" and modification of some risk factors, like weight or sedentary lifestyle, may help these adults avoid development of diabetes. The American Diabetes Association recommends that people have a fasting plasma glucose test for an initial screening test. A positive test is determined by a level of blood glucose of greater than 126 mg/dL. If you have a positive fasting glucose test, your doctor may want to confirm it on a separate day with a repeat test. If your test results are "borderline" you may also want to have the test repeated on a separate occasion. There are several different screening tests to determine if you are at risk of diabetes or if you have diabetes. Each test has different advantages and disadvantages. If you have hypertension, your doctor should screen you for glucose intolerance or type 2 diabetes. There is adequate evidence that people with blood pressure above 135/80 mm Hg who have diabetes discovered through a screening program will benefit from the strict blood pressure control strategies indicated for diabetic patients to reduce coronary heart disease.
The available evidence suggests that all adults with high blood pressure readings that are consistently greater than 135/80 mm Hg benefit from tighter control of risk factors associated with diabetes for prevention of coronary heart disease.

To control & maintain Blood pressure to normal these are best methods to follow:.• Do physical exercise like jogging, running or brisk walk for atleast 20-30 minutes. • Maintain your cholesterol level to normal & eat least amount of butter, cream or fatty things. • Eat less amount of pickle, salt and fast food as they contain high sodium levels. • Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking. • Take less amount of caffine containing coffee, tea or cold drinks because caffine causes increase BP. • Drink 8 to 10 glass of water daily • Take 6 to 8 hrs of sleep daily. Hi, Take Rauvolfia 1x, 2 tabs daily morning empty stomach and 1 tab in the evening. Drink plenty of liquids and cut down your fat, salt and sugar intake. go for a morning walk daily at least for 30 minute. Take a sound sleep and try to avoid anger. Home remedies to Control high BP:-1. Bananas are one fruit that people with high blood pressure can eat regularly to control it. Bananas are a rich source of potassium, which lessens the effect of sodium. So, try to eat one or two bananas daily. Along with bananas, you can try dried apricots, raisins, orange juice, spinach, baked sweet potatoes. 2. Eat one or two crushed garlic cloves daily. You can simply crush them with your hands. Crushing garlic cloves creates hydrogen sulfide, a compound that promotes good blood flow, removes gas and reduces the pressure on the heart. If you do not like eating raw garlic or if it causes a burning sensation, then take it along with a cup of milk. You can also mix five or six drops of garlic juice in four teaspoons of water and take it twice a day.

I am a patient of DM, IHD, PPM, HTN. taking regular medicines. What will be my ideal diet? My age is 72 years.
I hope every condition is under control. Ideal diet is not according to charts. You eat according to your constitution without comparing with others. No sugar or sweets, no bad fats, only good fats like a spoon of pure ghee/ butter and a katori of assorted nuts. Minimal salts and no packaged food as it contains lots of salt, being a preservative. Lemon juice with honey but cut down on other calories (just 30 cals in a spoon of honey) it helps to burn the fat and sugar. Fruits like guava, orange, apple can be had. Exercise like walking also burns sugar and fats.

Give up smoking

DIABETES MANAGEMENT, MBBS

Give up smoking

If you're a smoker, quit. It's the single best thing you can do for your heart health.

Smoking is one of the main causes of coronary heart disease.

A year after giving up, your risk of a heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker.
