The principal symptoms of dengue are: -high fever and at least two of the following: -severe headache -severe eye pain (behind eyes) -joint pain -muscle and/or bone pain -rash -mild bleeding manifestation (nose or gum bleed, petechiae, or easy bruising) Watch for warning signs as temperature declines 3 to 5 days after symptoms/fever began, as this is the most dangerous period when platelet counts decline significantly. What Is Pulmonary Embolism?

MD PULMONARY, DTCD
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
What Is Pulmonary Embolism?

When blood clot blocks one or more arteries in your lungs the condition is known as pulmonary embolism. It can cause a decrease in the oxygen levels in your blood, damage to your lungs due to sudden restrictions in the flow of blood along with adverse effects on other parts of your body. Life threatening blockage can cause death if left untreated and you should immediately contact your health care provider to get proper diagnosis. Pulmonary embolism requires various lab tests and generally requires short time to resolve.

Symptoms: The symptoms of pulmonary embolism mainly depend upon many factors pertaining to your previous medical history. Pulmonary embolism varies with the size of your lungs, the size of the clots formed in your blood, and any other underlying history of the heart or lungs. That said, pulmonary embolism has symptoms which are not similar to any two persons and will vary accordingly.

The common symptoms however may include the following and you are advised to opt for a health checkup if these are persistent in your body:

  1. Cough along with bloody sputum is a common symptom.
  2. Shortness of breath, which will become worse as the days passes by. They will appear suddenly and cause huge discomfort in breathing.
  3. Chest pain which may give you the feeling of a heart attack. The pain will intensify when you sit to eat or cough. Deep breath will cause problems too and will not go away easily with exertion.
  4. Some other symptoms include fever, excess sweat, irregular heartbeat and dizziness.

Pulmonary embolism can be diagnosed by the following methods:

  1. Electrocardiography (also known popularly as ECG) to measure your heart's electrical activity and functioning.
  2. CT plumonary angiography is gold standard for diagnosing pulmonary embolism.
  3. Chest x ray, which is a common and non invasive test to check your heart and lungs as well as the problems with any bones surrounding them.
  4. ECHO can detect secondary changes in heart due to pulmonary embolism.

Treatment of pulmonary embolism can be done with medicines if it is detected at an early stage or also if the clot is small. However, if the size of your clot is problematic and blocks the blood flow to your lungs or heart then surgery may be necessary. Open surgery and clot removal surgery are common in the treatment of pulmonary embolism and will require good regular follow up check ups. Regular leg exercises will also reduce the chances of any underlying disease and you should hence consult your doctor.

What are the symptoms of cancer and causes of cancer then what are the symptoms of flu? Then causes of flu.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
What are the symptoms of cancer and causes of cancer then what are the symptoms of flu? Then causes of flu.
Some general signs and symptoms associated with, but not specific to, cancer, include: fatigue lump or area of thickening that can be felt under the skin weight changes, including unintended loss or gain skin changes, such as yellowing, darkening or redness of the skin, sores that won't heal, or changes to existing moles changes in bowel or bladder habits persistent cough or trouble breathing difficulty swallowing hoarseness persistent indigestion or discomfort after eating persistent, unexplained muscle or joint pain persistent, unexplained fevers or night sweats unexplained bleeding or bruising cancer is caused by changes (mutations) to the dna within cells. The dna inside a cell is packaged into a large number of individual genes, each of which contains a set of instructions telling the cell what functions to perform, as well as how to grow and divide. Errors in the instructions can cause the cell to stop its normal function and may allow a cell to become cancerous. People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms: fever* or feeling feverish/chills. Cough. Sore throat. Runny or stuffy nose. Muscle or body aches. Headaches. Fatigue (tiredness) some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults. Three main types of influenza viruses cause the flu: type a, type b, and type c. All three virus types are spread in the same way: they leave an infected person's body in droplets whenever that person coughs, sneezes, or puts their mouth on another object.

Weakness is a result of lack of physical or muscle strength. If you are feeling that extra effort is required to move your arms, legs, or other muscles, it could also be a result of any disease, illness and too much activity at one time and not taking the food to match the amount of physical effort you are doing. Sometimes low levels of minerals (electrolytes), such as potassium or sodium also result in body weakness. Other important reason could be the problems with your thyroid gland. Because your thyroid gland is responsible for regulating the way the body uses energy. A low thyroid level can cause fatigue, weakness, laziness, weight gain etc. And a high thyroid level can cause fatigue, weight loss, muscle weakness etc. Sometime because of stress you may feel disinterest in your routine works. Since the reasons for your weakness are not known, I shall advise the following - 1. Keep yourself hydrated. 2. Get extra rest for some days till you feel more energetic. 3. Avoid watching television for long hours. Indulge in relaxing activities. 4. Avoid stress and too much physical exertion. 5. Take a nutritious diet with more protein items in homemade food like soya, sprouts, dals, paneer, milk, seasonal fruits. 6. Do light physical activity, meditation and yoga. 7. Take one good multivitamin tablet after food for 7 days.

Dental Treatment is Now Painless - 5 Reasons Why!

BDS, FICOI, MDS

Dental Treatment is Now Painless - 5 Reasons Why!

A majority of us would rather undergo any form of torture than go to a dentist. There is some great news for the ones who are silently enduring their dental pains. Read on as we reveal how to get rid of your teething troubles and that too painlessly!

#1- NO MORE INJECTIONS

If the fear of a needle is what’s keeping you away from the dental office, then think again as we can now numb you with as little as just a paste, spray or solution that doesn’t require an injection for its delivery. This revolutionary new technology takes away the prick of the needle and the pressure of the liquid expanding your lips and gums, instead, the solution enters by a digitally controlled dispenser going in drop by drop making it virtually undetectable.

#2- NO MORE DRILLING

The sound of the drill can be one of the most known triggers for creating fear and anxiety in the patient's mind. When coupled with its vibrations, heat and pressure the experience it creates oscillates from unpleasant to downright unbearable. If the drill were replaced by a beam of light that can clean up decay, even the most reluctant people would open up to the experience. Once patients experience the difference they not only get the most urgent and necessary treatments done but also opt for preventive treatments.

#3-  BLADE FREE SURGERIES

If you had to undergo a dental surgery earlier you may have had to worry about blood loss, pain, swelling, stitches not to mention the countless gory images that come to mind - but fortunately not anymore ! A surgery can be completely pain-free with little or no bleeding, Immediate recovery,no stitches and no swellings having you back at work or play almost instantly.

#4- QUICK & EASY ROOT CANALS

Root canal treatment as a procedure is probably more dreaded than even extraction or removal of a tooth. The pain and fear associated with this treatment are due to the primitive way that it used to be done in earlier. Automated technologies make root canals completely painless, precise, quick and smooth in as little as just one session.

#5- RELAXING MEDICATION

If these reasons do not sound convincing enough then pain relieving and controlling drugs before or during your appointment may be the solution for you.

Great strides have been made in the field of pharmacology with medication that can block or control pain centres in the brain.

We now choose from a variety of medication ranging from oral drugs to breathing gases through a mask, that can relieve your anxiety during the procedure to a point that you no longer perceive or detect pain.

The only thing left to fear now remains a nagging toothache in the back of your mouth that you have been ignoring.

As hard as it may seem to believe, truth is, that with the best technology, great ambience, and a host of distraction techniques - a dental appointment may actually turn out to be pleasant and save you a world of pain in the future!

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Rough masturbation can cause swelling. MASTURBATION is normal, natural and never unhealthy. But Excess masturbation can kill your sexual stamina. Excess masturbation can also cause anxiety disorder, depression and thereby erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation etc. You can be sure; there are no side effects to masturbation if you are able to restrict it to thrice a week. Jogging and physical exercise are always good to keep you fit and stop worrying about sex and allied thinking. I suggest online sex counseling and therapy. Take care.

Vitamin d is a fat soluble vitamin and is generally not found in vegetarian produce. Body synthesizes vitamin d in presence of sunlight. Non vegetarian diet gives this vitamin from fish liver oils. The vegetable oils when subjected to hydrogenation to make vanaspati ghee are fortefied with fat soluble vitamins a & d. As such hydrogenated fats are not good for health so good exposure to ultraviolet rays in the morning before 12 pm is the natural way to get required doses. In case of deficiency one cannot rely upon dietary or sunlight but has to take therapeutic doses of vitamin d in form of granules, injections etc.
