1.. Go for fasting once a week. You can go for absolute fasting or rely on a liquid diet to digest ama (toxin). Fasting should be followed by hot fomentation or by taking a bath with lukewarm water or steam bath. 2.. After fasting and fomentation, mix powdered long pepper, black pepper and dried ginger in equal quantities and take 1 teaspoon of this powdered mix with lukewarm water twice a day. This will help you restore your digestive fire. 3.. Take one tablespoon of castor oil before going to bed, once or twice a week. It helps in cleansing ama (toxin) build up and balancing vata. 4.. Mix equal quantities of powdered fenugreek seeds, turmeric and ginger powder. Take one teaspoon daily in the morning and evening. 5.. For dry fomentation of the affected joints, take a cloth and fold it into four, fill it with hot and sand make a potli (bag) out of it. Use this bundle for the fomentation of different joints. This is very helpful in reducing pain and swelling. 6. Do walk daily.

I have severe pain in my arms. If I sleep on the right side, my upper arms ache so badly. I am unable to move it or do any work. The pain radiates to the neck and back. I have suffered with this for the past month. Change of season makes it worse, also sleeping under the fan. What is the cause and remedy?

My father is suffering from osteoporosis. His age is 65 yrs. He is also diabetic. How advisable it is to go for knee replacement for him?

BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Gurgaon
Firstly one needs to assess the kind of lifestyle he is living right now. If activity of daily living is restricted to major extent the Knee replacement can be of great help. X ray will also help in deciding the need of surgery. Alternative therapies like Physiotherapy Ayurveda Homeopathy will be of major help before deciding on surgery.

Hi. Doctor my mother is suffering from wear and tear of elbow joint. So please advise.
Apply ice in the painful area which would definitely help to greater extent. And you can wear elbow brace which would help you to keep your elbow warm and will give you protection.

You may have Thyroid issues, kindly go for a Thyroid Profile (Free T3, Free T4, TSH, TPO Antibody ). And also a 25 (OH) Vit D3 test to check whether you are Vit D3 deficient. Low Vit D level can give body pain and insufficient Insulin control. Go for a good diet under a good Nutritionist. You have to take low carbohydrates and more Protein and fat, a form of Ketogenic diet which will help you immensely in managing your Diabetes and body pain as well. You can take Chromium Picolinate supplementation for three months and check your sugar levels, preferably HbA1C Take Magnesium Glycinate 400 mg twice daily at evening and night after meal for three months. If you are not taking Blood thinner medicine, then Vit K2 100 mcg at afternoon one tab will help immensely for body pain and Diabetes as well. Consult after one month for follow up. Good luck! Thanks.

Hunching over a desk is a leading reason why people end up with crippling back pain at some point in their lives, specially for those who has desk job. But a few simple changes in the way you work can make your pain go away. 1-Keep your head up; Focus on aligning your head and neck right above your shoulders; avoid straining forward. 2-Be choosy with your chair: Pick one that allows your lower back to rest against a lumbar support. Then tilt the back of the chair so it’s very slightly reclined. 3-Plant your feet: Keep them flat on the floor and shoulder-width apart to quiet tension in your knees and ankles. 4-Take breaks: Getting up at least once an hour— just do some shoulder rolls—reduces pressure on spinal disks and boosts circulation. If your back pain is severe please go to a Physiotherapist for detail assessment and management of your pain. Best wishes.
