Is there any kind of cancer which affect lung or due toh asthma problem. Actually one of my friend was saying so I want toh know is it dangerous like other cancer or not?

Oncologist, Gurgaon
At 20, you r highly unlikely to have lung cancer. Chronic smoking can lead to COPD where sulymptoms mimic asthma and it can be a precursor to lung cancer.

Dear lybrate-user, fibroadenoma are breast lump usually occurring in 15-25 years age group. In case the lumps aren't large enough, they should not be removed. An ultrasound of both the breast should be done for better diagnosis of the breasts. I would suggest you to consult a surgeon.

Dear, radiation hair loss on the site of radiation is an outcome of radiation but the advantage you derived from the radiation over-weighs the disadvantage of hair loss. There might be other avoidable side effects of which I will not make you conscious. If at any time you are advised adjuvant chemotherapy that may cause more hair loss from the body but that loss will be temporary, radiation induced hair loss may be long lasting

There is no need to go for fb removal. You have to treat prostate first. You can take a trial of urimax-d for few days if your cardiologist allow you. Or you can get turp done after holding aspirin and clopidogrel for few days. For gb polyp you have to get usg abdomen done regularly at every 3-6 mnths and if size increases upto 10 mm or it increases in number (more than 3) then laproscopic removal should be planned.

It is good that you are abstaining. Though your risk does not reduce at 3 months, it will progressively reduce further. Keep it up.

MBBS, MS- Surgery , M.Ch - Surgical Oncology , FIAGES
Oncologist, Delhi
Screening for lung cancer: age group 55-80 years with a history of smoking united states preventive services task force (uspstf) recommend annual screening for lung cancer with low dose computed tomography in adults aged 55-80 years who have a 30 pack year smoking history and currently smoke or have quit within past 15 years. Screening should be discontinued once a person has not smoked for 15 years or develops a health problem that substantially limits life expectancy or the ability or willingness to have curative lung surgery.

MS, DNB (Surgical Oncology)
Oncologist, Jodhpur
Hello. If doctor says incurable that means no practical chance of cure, but doesn't means end of life. There are form of mild chemo therapy like methotrexate n some targeted drugs might give painless life. These helps to to prolong life n suffering provided general condition permits. Ayurvedic I'm not sure, about its benefit but one can try if you manage to get confidence.

What are the signs and symptoms of cervical cancer and ovarian cancer if being away of sexual intercourse n not indulge in Otr sexual activity. So how easy way to know about it?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear mam, cancer cervix may present as abnormal bleeding, it may be profuse intermenstrual or bleeding in between periods, discharge per vaginum, post menopausal bleeding, spotting after intercourse, back pain, abdominal pain etc. Ovarian cancers are mostly hidden for long as they may not produce any symptoms, mostly present as irregular periods, abdominal pain, distension or swelling of abdomen etc. Keeping away from sexual activity is no solution, only HPV related cervical cancer may be related to sex, but having safe sexual practice and getting HPV vaccination done you can prevent it. Personal hygiene is important. Both cancers can be detected early by screening health check up by PAP smear, CA 125 ultrasound abdomen, you can get this done annually for early diagnosis. Watch for any abnormal bleeding or irregular periods.

Prostate symptoms can be managed by medicines but if medical treatment is not reliving surgery is the only option. But cause of prostatomegaly should be evaluated first. Psa levels should be checked, clinical examination of prostate should be done. Ultrasound prostate should be done. If these findings indicate chances of cancer then proatate biopsy has to be done before deciding the treatment direction as treatment of cancer and non cacerous conditions differ significantly.

MD - Radiation Oncology, MBBS, DNB (Radiotherapy)

Prognosis of lung cancer depends a number of factors like stage at diagnosis, age, histopathological sub-type of the tumor, performance status of the patient, etc. If the tumor is metastatic or locally recurrent after chemotherapy, then targeted therapy can be useful with much reduced toxicity.

All About Pulmonary Diseases

Pulmonary diseases are some of the most commonly experienced health conditions all over the world. Millions of people suffer due to various causes including genetics, smoking, pollutants and infection. Now lungs are one of the most important and complex organs of the body. They are the apparatus through which oxygen enters and carbon dioxide gets expelled.

Lungs expand and contract on a constant basis to ensure that we can breathe properly. Let us find out more about lung or pulmonary diseases.

  1. Asthma: This is one of the most common and potentially fatal conditions that affect children and adults. It grips the airways formed by the bronchi which branch off into smaller tubes from the main trachea that holds them. This condition causes inflammation, and even spasms, which can lead to wheezing and breathlessness. The main triggers of asthma attacks include allergies, infections and pollutants that may escape into the airways.
  2. COPD: This is also known as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder. It is an umbrella term used for various lung conditions that cause breathing difficulties due to an obstruction of the airways. Chronic bronchitis is one of the conditions that falls under COPD, and is usually characterised by persistent, hacking coughs.
  3. Cystic Fibrosis: This is another condition that affects the airways by causing poor passage of mucus from the bronchial tubes. This condition is a genetic one where the mucus that gathers eventually becomes a lung infection.
  4. Pneumonia: This is a condition that causes an infection in the alveoli, which are the tiny tubes that the airways branch into. These are air sacs that can catch myriad infections like pneumonia.
  5. Tuberculosis: This is also a kind of pneumonia, which is caused by bacteria called Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. This condition usually attacks the air sacs of the lungs and can be a potentially fatal disease if it is not treated on time. The patient will require immediate hospitalisation.
  6. Pulmonary Edema: This condition is caused by fluid leaks from the tiny blood vessels into the surrounding air sacs within the lungs. It can also be caused due to heart failure as well as back pressure which falls on the lungs. Direct injury to the lungs can also lead to this condition.
  7. Lung Cancer: This is a fatal disease which can be found in any part of the lungs. It has many forms and the type as well as the location usually determines the kind of treatment option that will be followed.
  8. Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: When the lungs suffer a sudden injury which is usually caused by a bout of serious illness, it is called ARDS. Treatment involves the use of life support ventilation.

I am 18 years old and I am an boy. I have a big lumb on my right chest since 2 years. The left one is normal but the right chest appears like a breast.

Advanced Aesthetics, M.Ch - Plastic Surgery, MS - General Surgery, MBBS
Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon, Indore
To the best of our knowledge no medicines or creams work to decrease the breast size. Male breast or gynecomastia reduction. Gynecomastia is treatable by surgery. There is no medical treatment. It is a one day out patient surgery with very gratifying results. It boosts self esteem also. It is a 1 day hospital stay surgery. It takes 1 day for consultation and investigation and 2nd day surgery and discharge in 3-4 hours. The Dr. Can examine and tell you what is the problem, gynacomastia has a breast tissue and a fat component. No one wants surgery unless it is necessary. There is no medication which can give the results. Surgery is the only answer. The surgery is almost painless because there are enough medications to keep the pain under control.
