I am suffering from back pain and general weakness for last 2 years.
What can I do?
Hi Thanks for your query and Welcome to Lybrate. I am Dr Akshay from Fortis Hospital, New Delhi. You are quite young and should not be having persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - To maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - If pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - Physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - Adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - Ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - Analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - Avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc We will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation. Thanks & Regards Dr Akshay Kumar Saxena Consultant Orthopaedics Fortis Hospital, New Delhi

I feel a sharp pain in my lower backing. My feet hurts when I wake up in the morning. Thanks.
Hi Thanks for your query and Welcome to Lybrate. I am Dr Akshay from Fortis Hospital, New Delhi. There are many causes of pain in lower back region. It can be due to faulty posture, related to weak muscles, issues with Intervertebral Disc, narrowing of Spinal canal, any Bony instability besides many other , so accurate diagnosis is the key to proper management of the condition. You will have to elaborate your problem as to a detailed discussion of your back pain which means duration of pain and mode of onset.I would also like to ask you if it is associated with any leg pain or any other neurological symptoms like numbness, paraesthesias ( electrical shock like abnormal sensations) or any weakness in limbs. Please also tell me about any associated symptoms like fever, weight loss etc. What medications you generally take and what has been your treatment history till now for existing problem. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation. How to reduce pain in legs after climbing?

BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist,
How to reduce pain in legs after climbing?
Hi = relax and stay positive. = increase fluid intake. = eat seasonal fruits for natural vitamins = do streching of hamstring, quadriceps, and calf muscles. = if you are overweight, reduce weight by cycling or swimming as it gives low impact on joints. = do check your calcium and vit. D = apply moist heat pad to affected joint and muscles. If still you dont get relief consult physiotherapist as there are various causes for leg/ joint pain and some test may be required for further investigation. Best wishes.

Quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

Hi! don't strain your back a lot. Try to sleep and get up sideways without directly straining it. Avoid heavy weights. Apply warm herbal oils like mahanarayan oil or dhanvantar tailam everyday followed by a hot pack. That will reduce the vata dosha thereby relieving your pain.

I have back pain from last 2-3 years, my age is 28 and having sitting job. What should I do?
Hello. Maintain a right standing and sitting posture, keep your back always straight, avoid carrying weight on back. Hold or carry weight divided equally in both the hands or shoulders (to avoid over straining on one particular hand or shoulder). Lie down on bed on your back without pillow. Exercise: Practice Shavasana or Corpse Pose as it looks like a dead body. If practiced correctly and with full efforts, can relax every body part, relaxing not only the body but also the mind: Spread the legs one to two feet apart, the toes are turned outwards, the heels facing each other, a comfortable distance apart. Bring the arms a little away from the body, palms turned upward. Relax the neck and allow it to turn to the side if it is more comfortable. Close the eyes and focus the attention on the body, breathing normally. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines Arnica 200 and Rhus Tox. 200 take both of them thrice daily for 1 week. Also, apply Schwabe's TopiArnica and Topi MP Gel on the affected area in circular motions gently thrice a day. Get back to me thereafter.

If you are suffering from diabetes last 3 or 5 year. This can lead neurological problem so first check your nerve test (biothesometry test). If this will positive than consult a diabetologist and wright down medicine for nurves pain. Change your shoes. Use only doctory sole shoes. This will help to overcome your pain.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. There are many causes of multiple joint pains in the body. It can be inflammatory in nature, due to an underlying systemmic cause or a generalized deficiency. My advice is to get some blood tests done and send reports across to me: cbc, esr, crp, serum vitamin d, serum electrolytes etc. Let me see these reports and then I can advise you certain measures. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

I am 24 year old and working 10 hours sitting job I am suffering from back pain from last 2 months. Please suggest what should I do?

DNB, MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi, this is Dr. Hitin mathur from new delhi. Welcome to lybrate. As far as your back pain is concerned it may be on account of 2 reasons- 1) your posture and job profile if prolonged sitting is causing excessive pressure on your back vertebra leading to pain. 2) your vitamin d levels may be low on account of low sun exposure due to your indoor job. So get your vitamin d and serum uric acid tests done fasting and an x ray of ls spine ap and lateral view. The x ray should be done empty stomach in the morning and tab charcoal 4 tabs and tab dulcolax 3 tabs should be taken at bedtime the night before the x rays. The tablets are to clear the bowel to get a clear x ray picture. Revert back with reports. In the meantime you can start tab zinase d 3 times a day after meals, tab pantocid 40 mg's once a day before breakfast and tab corcium k2 once a day on the evening. You can also learn spinal extension exercises from a physiotherapist and start doing them 3 times a day 20 mins each session. Avoid prolonged sitting, weight lifting and forward bending. Hot fomentation with hot water bag can help. Revert back with reports.
