Traditionally, Ayurveda has suggested that individuals with high pitta, who are prone to developing pitta-type problems such as sunburn in the summer season or Acne, can take a blood-cleansing herbal combination. For example, mix the herbs manjistha and neem in equal amounts. Take ½ teaspoon of this mixture 3 times a day with warm water after meals. It will cleanse the blood and help to heal pitta-type allergies. The common Western herb burdock is also an effective blood purifier; you can make a tea from ½ teaspoon burdock per cup of boiling water and drink it 2 or 3 times a day. For external care of your skin, you can follow these remedies: TEA TREE OIL: Use tea tree oil facewash twice a day followed by tea tree toner and an oil free moisturizer. LEMON JUICE: Apply fresh lemon juice on the affected area with a cotton ball. Leave it on for around 10 minutes then rinse with cool water. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR: Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water and use the mixture as a toner. Apply on your face with a cotton swab. ALOE VERA: Aloe Vera has burn-relieving properties and can promote healing, fight infection, and even reduce scarring. Scrape out the gel from an aloe plant with a spoon, and apply to your face. HONEY AND CINNAMON: Add half teaspoon of cinnamon powder with 1 tablespoon of honey and apply on face. Leave it for an hour, or if possible leave it overnight. Then wash off.

Hi, Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i. E. Cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Prevention: -Take healthy food only and avoid unhealthy ones (although sebaceous glands are not excretory glands then as well!) as what you eat is reflected on your face! -Avoid taking unnecessary stress/ tension as it encourages secretion of stress hormone in the body as thus affects skin or any other tissue of the body. -Drink atleast 8-10 glasses of water in a day. -Take 6-8 hrs. Of sound sleep everyday. -Don't use others towels, handkerchief on your face as well as never share yours. -Maintain hygiene, wash your face 2-3 times in a day, changes the pillow covers, bed sheet daily, use cotton bed sheet only (try to sleep on your back). Home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Also, use Bakson’s Apricot scrub 1-2 times a week on the area.

Hello, try some natural remedies: TEA TREE OIL: Use tea tree oil facewash twice a day followed by tea tree toner and an oil free moisturizer. LEMON JUICE: Apply fresh lemon juice on your face with a cotton ball. CHAMOMILE STEAM: Make 2 cups of chamomile tea and add fresh rose petals to it. Then take this soothing steam while it is still hot. (Put a bath towel over your head to prevent the steam from escaping) MINT LEAVES: Blend fresh mint leaves with some water to make a paste (pudeena ki chutney). Rub the paste on your face and leave for 5-10 minutes. Then wash thoroughly with cold water. MELON MASK: Melon pulp has whitening features and helps to make pigmented spots less visible. A fruit mask of melon has anti-aging and cleansing effects. This mask is more helpful for dry & normal skin. The puree of melon is applied on your clean skin for 20 minutes and later, wash with warm water. Afterward, apply a facial moisturizer. Hoe this helps.

My eyes dark circles are not getting light. I tried every way possible like cucumber, lemon juice etc. What should I do?

My eyes dark circles are not getting light.
I tried every way possible like cucumber, lemon juice etc.
What should I do?
Hi. Dark circles can be temporary (means happens after any recent or chronic diseases or underlying medical condition, insufficient sleep, nutritional deificiency, working long hrs. on computer, lack of rest, stress/ tension, etc.) which can be improved by fixing the underlying cause or the problem or can be inherited from your parent's genes which can't be treated or cured! Management: Eat healthy and on time. Avoid junk. Drink plenty of water (as dehydration can cause dull or patchy skin). Sleep well. Wear anti-glare spectacles while working on computer. Reduce your stress/ tension through yoga, meditation or any other exercises (it not only improves your blood circulation, but also reduces the production of stress hormones by the body as well as increases happy hormones in the body). Use sunglasses regularly and not to forget to apply a thick layer of Bakson's Suncare Sunscreen liberally, 20-30 minutes before stepping out in the sun and apply the same again after 3-4 hours if you have exposure to sunlight for long hours. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Cina 1M/ one dose daily at night for 10 days. Schwabe's Alfalafa Tonic/ 1 tsp thrice a day daily for 20 days and revert me back about the condition. Apply Bakson's Under Eye Cream twice daily (in morning and at night) and Medicynth's Whitch Hazel cream and Bakson's Under Eye cream twice - in morning and at night daily. Revert back to me after (You will have to keep doing something to maintain them if it's hereditary).

My baby boy is 1 1/2 month old. Which oil is best for baby's massage for his fair skin tone.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Zirakpur
My baby boy is 1 1/2 month old. Which oil is best for baby's massage for his fair skin tone.
Using an oil can make massage easier for you and more relaxing for your baby. Everyone seems to have an opinion on which oil is best for baby massage. Some parents favor baby mineral oils, while others choose a particular vegetable oil. Some oils are thought to be more easily absorbed into skin. You may find massage easier with an oil that soaks in, or you may prefer one that stays more slippery on your baby's skin. Your decision about what to use also depends on your baby's skin. If your baby has eczema, it is better to use her medical emollient cream or ointment. There are some oils or creams that it's best not to use, whether or not your baby has eczema. These are: mustard oil, because it has a toxic effect on the skin barrier, causing irritation and potential damage to delicate baby skin. Unrefined peanut oil, because the proteins it contains may sensitise your baby to an allergic reaction to peanuts or cause a reaction on your baby's skin. It's also best not to use refined peanut oil. Although it's unlikely to cause a problem, refined oil may be cross-contaminated with unrefined oil. Aqueous cream, because it contains a harsh detergent called sodium lauryl sulfate that may irritate your baby's skin and damage her skin barrier vegetable oils that are high in linoleic acid may be gentler on your baby's skin. Linoleic acid is an essential fatty acid that helps to protect the barrier element of your baby's skin. Vegetable oils that usually contain high levels of linoleic acid include: sunflower oil grapeseed oil if your baby has dry or broken skin, or atopic eczema, avoid vegetable oils that are higher in another type of fatty acid called oleic acid. Vegetable oils high in oleic acid may be harsher on your baby's skin than vegetable oils rich in linoleic acid or baby mineral oils. Olive oil is high in oleic acid. One study on adults found that, compared with sunflower seed oil, using olive oil on the skin damaged the skin barrier. It caused mild redness even when there was no history of sensitive skin. Oleic acid can make some layers of your baby's skin more permeable. This permeability could help oil and water to be absorbed into your baby's skin. But it could also mean that oil and water is lost, rather than trapped in. So if your baby's skin is already dry and tender, then oleic acid could increase moisture loss from it, which causes dry skin.

Boils - How To Manage It?

MBBS, MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy
Dermatologist, Mumbai
Boils - How To Manage It?

A boil or a skin abscess is a type of bacterial skin infection that leads to formation of a pus-filled red bump on the skin. It usually starts in an oil gland or a hair follicle on the face, the armpits, the neck or the shoulders. If a cluster of boils appears, it is called a carbuncle and this is a more severe infection than a boil. However, most boils are caused by minor infection and can be healed with simple treatment at home. Listed below are the various ways to deal with a boil:

  1. Boils are not entirely preventable but normal daily hygiene can reduce the frequency of the occurrence of boils.
  2. When you notice a boil formation, you should apply a hot compress on it. The heat helps to prevent the formation of too much pus by helping it drain faster. When the blood circulation to the area is improved by the heat, the antibodies help to draw out the germs.
  3. The boil usually drains on its own. You may try draining it yourself but only when it is soft. Poking a hard boil can be extremely painful; it may bleed and make the infection worse. It is usually best to let it drain by itself.
  4. When the boil starts draining, you can clean the infected area with an antibacterial soap daily till the boil is drained and flattened. You may clean it with some rubbing alcohol in order to prevent the germs in the pus from spreading to other areas of the body.
  5. The infected area can be kept covered with sterile gauze coated with antibiotic ointment.
  6. Penicillin-based antibiotics can be used to treat the boil but only if it is a severe infection.  If the boil is excessively painful, you can use pain relievers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol.
  7. Avoid sitting in one particular position for too long because this increases the pain.
  8. It is important to wash your hands every time you touch the draining boil because the bacteria is extremely contagious and can spread to other areas of your skin as well as to other people.
  9. All the articles which have been used to treat the boils like the gauze, cloth, cotton and hot compress should either be discarded or disinfected to avoid spreading of the infection.

Guide to Beating Age Spots

Guide to Beating Age Spots

The skin is the largest organ in the body and the first to be affected by any condition, be it good or bad. As it is said, a close look at the skin can tell all about the overall health of the person.

Age spots are little, flat, brown spots that are an indication of serious underlying conditions. They are most common on the face, neck and hands. With regular metabolism, the free radical damage in the body produces lipofuscin. This accumulates, leading to gradual destruction of the body's cells including vital organs like liver, brain and heart. These brown age spots are therefore a cause of concern and should be attended to immediately.

The good news, however, is that there are ways to prevent and even reverse these age spots. It not only has cosmetic benefits, but improves overall health by reducing and eliminating wastes. Read on to know some common, effective ways to beat these spots. The treatment works on two levels that is general where the whole body is covered and topical where skin is worked upon.

General Application:

  1. Diet: Eat a diet rich in fiber, containing fruits and vegetables, raw nuts and seeds. This will provide various minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and other nutrients for your body. Avoid animal based proteins, fried oily foods, excessive sugars and salt and processed foods. Quit smoking and limit alcohol intake.
  2. Exercise: A good workout helps to remove toxins, thereby reducing the likelihood of age spots appearing in the first place. It can also help reverse the effects of ageing that has already set in.
  3. Stay hydrated: While moisturizers do have a good role to play, it cannot hydrate the body from within. Plenty of water is required also to flush out toxins and wastes from the body, which can accelerate ageing.
  4. Topical: In addition to general measures, the following topical measures are useful in beating the age spots.
  5. Cleansing the skin: Skin is constantly exposed to dust and heat and pollution and frequent cleaning, even with plain water, will work wonders.
  6. Scrubbing the skin: A good scrub, be it from the shelves or made at home, is a good effective way to further clean the skin of dead cells and making way for fresh cells to emerge.
  7. Sun Protection: It is believed that 90% of the skin damage happens due to exposure to sun. Using a sunscreen goes a long way in preventing skin damage including spots, dark circles and even cancer.
  8. Moisturizing the skin: Using honey, glycerin, or any other product that hydrates the skin will have long-term benefits in reducing ageing.
  9. Antioxidant creams: There are proven creams and natural products that contain antioxidants and control ageing of the skin, thereby reducing age spots. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.
