Hi, by improving your digestive system, you can increase your weight. 1. You must focus on getting the maximum nutrition out of the food that you are eating and digest that. To improve your digestive powers, you can take chitrakadi vati after meal and ashwagandha churna with water twice a day. 2. You can also have milk and milk products eg butter, ghee, etc along with banana shake.

The passing of gas in evening depends on your diet in day and water intake. It does not seem to be related with ulcer. Some times it may be due to amoebiasis and altered bacterial flora. I would advice to consult for anti amoebic treatment and lactobacillus after meal it will help you to relieve your symptoms.

Digestion - How Homeopathy Can Aid it?

Diploma in Gastroenterology, Diploma In Pulmonary Medicine , MSCP, BHMS, SVD( skin and veneral diseases)
Homeopath, Hyderabad
Digestion - How Homeopathy Can Aid it?

Homeopathy has proven to be very successful in treating many digestive problems. However, certain warning signs should not be ignored. A timely medical diagnosis and opinion is important if the following occurs:
1. Vomiting
2. Sudden and severe abdominal pain
3. Abnormal loss of weight
4. Abnormality in normal bowel habits including constipation or persistent looseness

Some digestive problems and their remedies are discussed below:

  1. Heartburn: This is a burning sensation that results from acid from the stomach, being squirted into the food pipe. An elevating sensation is felt from the chest to the end of the throat. Consumption of some common food and drinks like caffeine, acidic juices, alcohol, chocolate or carbonated beverages can increase the secretion of acid in the stomach. Over dosage of medicines like aspirin and ibuprofen can also cause heartburn. Remedy: Calcarea carbonica is widely used for relieving chronic cases of heartburn that occur mostly in people who experience cramps in the stomach and intense heartburns. Lycopodium brings relief in cases where regurgitation and heartburn occurs after small snacks.
  2. Bloating: This is caused due to the presence of excess gas in the colon, small intestines or the stomach. It results from high stress levels, poor diets and daily need for medications. Remedy: Carbo vegetabilis (made from vegetable charcoal) is renowned for its capability to absorb toxins and along with Lycopodium, is recommended for digestive problems resulting from excess gas.
  3. Dyspepsia: This is an uncomfortable feeling or pain, which occurs in the upper abdominal regions which is caused due to improper consumption of food and is commonly referred to as indigestion. If the condition is prolonged, a doctor must be visited. Remedy: Anacardium is a remedy that is useful for people who experience frequent and periodic bouts of upper abdominal pain. The remedy Argentum nitricum is suggested for people who experience Dyspepsia along with nausea. This is a pain in the upper abdominal region along with retching of mucus. Another remedy for this condition is Nux Vomica. This is suggestedfor people who are usually restless.

Treating flatulence and dyspepsia that is experienced by people after consumption of starchy and fatty foods requires Natrum carbonicum. These people cannot consume milk and often have a number of food allergies. Phosphorus is recommended for people who vomit along with their dyspepsia even though they usually crave short term solutions, like cold drinks.

In many cases, simple changes in your diet like taking high fibre foods and lifestyle can provide relief from irritable bowel syndrome. Although your body may not respond immediately to these changes, your goal is to find long-term, not temporary, solutions. I will inform you on how to make diet, lifestyle changes, make you understand instructions for taking medication because it won't work if you don't take it as directed. Consult privately for a holistic dietary therapy to solve your problemsdo reply back for medications. Being also a general physician, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary tips taking into account patient preferences.

Gas Pain in Children

Fellowship in Neonatology, MRCPCH(UK), Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS

Gas Pain in Children

Gas or flatulence is a condition where the microorganisms present in the intestines break down the food and release excessive gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, which is usually let out from the anus. It can lead to pain in the stomach and an uneasy feeling in the body.

Causes:

  1. When foods that are not digested properly are broken down
  2. Lactose intolerance
  3. Swallowing air
  4. Certain foods not being absorbed properly in the digestive system
  5. When a child does other activities, while eating, then it can cause gas to accumulate air in the intestines leading to gas
  6. The sweeteners present in chewing gums can get trapped in the intestines and ferment into gas
  7. Vegetables such as cauliflower and broccoli can cause gas
  8. Soft drinks that cause phosphoric acid can also lead to gas
  9. Some children are sensitive to fat and fiber, and consuming these nutrients can lead to gas

The symptoms of gas pain in children are cramps in the stomach region along with diarrhea. It can also lead to irregular eating, being fussy about food and pulling up the legs to the belly.

Treatments and preventive measures:

  1. Consuming food containing probiotics such as yoghurt and soy can help in treating gas
  2. Eliminating vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower from your child's diet
  3. Decreasing the amount of milk in the diet
  4. Limiting consumption of chewing gums as they contain artificial sweeteners , which cause gas
  5. A hot drink such as tea made from herbs like peppermint can help in easing the symptoms of gas
  6. Encouraging your child to exercise can help in preventing gas
  7. Getting your child to drink water in proper amounts
  8. Consuming a healthy diet of vegetables and fruits

Feeling weak since last six months and also digestion system is weak too.
I am chain smoker. Please advise.
You can feel weak due to lack of essential nutrients, not getting enough sleep, a weak immune system, excessive drinking, skipping meals, emotional stress, and too much physical labor. Persistent weakness can be caused by health problems like anemia, arthritis, hypothyroidism, a sleep disorder, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, diabetes and heart disease. In these cases, it is very important to find out the exact cause behind your weakness. Avoid Food Poisoning by thorough washing and proper cooking

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Thorough washing and proper cooking of fruits and vegetables can eliminate most bacteria that cause food poisoning.

Food-borne illnesses or food poisoning usually occurs due to eating food that is contaminated with bacteria or their toxins. Virus and parasites can also be cause food poisoning. People have known for long that raw meat, poultry and eggs can also harbor diseases causing microbes. But in recent years most outbreaks of food borne illnesses have been due to fresh fruits and vegetables.

Food poisoning can cause abdominal pain, nausea, headache, fatigue, vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration. Symptoms may appear several hours to several days after eating tainted food. For example, salmonella bacteria will cause illness 12 hours to 3 days after ingestion lasting about 4-7 days.

The most common way to treat food poisoning is to drink plenty of fluids. The sickness usually subsides within a few days.
