4 Myths and Facts About Asthma You Should be Aware of

4 Myths and Facts About Asthma You Should be Aware of

On the occasion of World Asthma Day (3rd May, 2016), I would like to break a few myths related around Asthma which otherwise people generally believe to be true.

Myth #1 -  Asthma is a communicable disease

Fact #1 -  Asthma is an allergic disease and is neither contagious (infectious) or communicable (passed on from one person to another)

Myth #2 - Inhalers are addictive

Fact #2 - Absolutely wrong! Inhalers are not addictive but it is a good habit to keep control over asthma and use your inhalers as prescribed by your doctor. Also, contrary to popular belief that using inhalers on a regular basis reduces their effectiveness, inhalers continue to be equally effective on a regular basis.

Myth #3 - Inhalers are expensive

Fact #3 - Again, absolutely incorrect! Inhalers are in fact cheaper when compared to other drugs.

Myth #4 - Inhalers are given to patients who face Chronic Asthma

Fact #4 - Wrong! Inhalers should be used from a very early stage itself to prevent progression of the disease.

I hope this tip helped bust atleast a few notions that most people have about Asthma and that you are now better informed about this condition. In case you would like to ask me anything or discuss your or your loved one's case in detail, feel free to 'Consult' privately with me.

Hi Mr. lybrate-user, With your above results, looks like you have Pre-Diabetes (assuming that you previously were not diagnosed with diabetes and are not on any medications for diabetes). Hence, I'd suggest you to do diet control and regular exercise. Also, keep monitoring your sugars at least once in 6 months (preferably OGTT) Hope this helped.

Take homoeopathic medicine berberis aquifolium 30 (4 drops in little water) thrice a day for a week along with the medicines, also take the following self-care steps: *clean your skin gently with a mild face wash removing all dirt or make-up. Wash many times a day with plain water. *try not to squeeze, scratch, pick, or rub the pimples, it can lead to scarring and skin infections. *avoid touching your face with your hands or fingers. *make a habit of 8-10 glasses of water in a day. *avoid stress and anger. *avoid harsh skin products.

Hi lybrate-user, Dandruff is most common problems faced by several people across the world, it a type of skin problem faced on scalp which happens due to presence of bacteria and fungus which might also be infectious. Apart from production of dry flakes on scalp this is also known to result in itchiness due to the irritation when these dry flakes are formed in huge quantities. These homemade techniques are found to be effective in resolving the issue entirely, from several options available. Chemical shampoos make your scalp further dry worsening your dandruff. Try these home remedies to get rid of dandruff completely. 1. Tea Tree oil: This oil is known to be one of the strongest available natural antiseptics hence it is known to be effective in treating dandruff, only few drops of this oil to regularly used shampoo is enough to wash the hair. Even otherwise one tablespoon of this oil mixed with warm water is sufficient to be used as a spray which can be sprayed using spray bottle after shampooing the hair. Later the hair has to be massaged after drying up the wet hair. 2. White Vinegar: It plays role of being one of the important ingredients in treating dandruff due to the acetic acid that ensures that the scalp does not allow existence of bacteria and fungus. One part of vinegar mixed with three parts of water which makes the solution to be perfectly used for washing the hair after which it has to be cleaned with normal water. Vinegar can also be applied directly on hair after which it has to be wrapped in towel and left so for entire night and has to be washed in the morning with regular shampoo. 3. Olive oil: Dryness of scalp can be easily treated with olive oil making it the best moisturizer available, also when the use of extra virgin olive oil is made daily it is said to lessen the drying and flaking of skin. Best way to use olive oil is to slightly heat it until it is warm enough to be applied on the scalp after which it has to be massaged after which it has to be wrapped in towel for about half an hour. Finally the hair has to be brushed to remove all the dry scales and wash the hair thoroughly. 4. Fenugreek seeds: Fenugreek herb is known to prevent any development of fungus at the same time it is also known to soothe the scalp at the same time it is also known to keep a check on dandruff to such an extent. To get better use from fenugreek it is suggested to soak these seeds in water for entire night before making it into paste in the morning and applying on the scalp to be left on for few hours. The hair has to be later on be washed with mild shampoo also the water used for soaking seeds can be used for final wash of hair, those suffering with serious dandruff problem will probably have to use this treatment twice each week. 5. Aloe Vera: Ability to heal and fight against bacteria and fungus is known to help in controlling dandruff which is abundantly present in aloe vera for which juice has to be freshly extracted from the part. Apart from juice even aloe vera gel can be applied on hair for some time just before going to shower, later the hair has to be washed with mild shampoo which when repeated twice every day will have a check on the dandruff. Hope this helps. Good luck.
