Hoarseness of voice could be due to chronic laryngitis or polyp in vocal cord. Get your throat examined by ent specialist and follow the advice and treatment. Do warm saline gargling 2-3 times daily. Give voice rest. Take throat lozenges. Avoid smoking, if you smoke.

Masters in Speech Pathology and Audiology

You are right. Normally we don't stammer when we sing or say a poem or even if we act like some one or imitate some body. As you are conscious about how or the way you speak not what you are speaking. Go to a experienced speech therapist.

Hello I am suffering from stammering so how to control it & I have this problem from childhood so there is any solution for this.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Stammering is typically recognised by a tense struggle to get words out. This makes it different from the normal non-fluency we all experience which includes hesitations and repetitions. Commonly it involves repeating or prolonging sounds or words, or getting stuck without any sound (silent blocking). Sometimes people put in extra sounds or words. Often people lose eye contact. Some people who stammer talk their way round difficult words so that you may not realise they stammer at all. This avoidance of words, and avoidance of speaking in some or many situations, is an important aspect of stammering. Stammering varies tremendously from person to person and is highly variable for the person who stammers who may be fluent one minute and struggling to speak the next. Get an mri brain and eeg with a psychiatrist evaluation.

Sir I have stammering problem from childhood. How to cure this problem. Please suggest me.

M.Phil - Psychology
Psychologist, Bangalore
Stammering can be overcome with regular practice. You have to talk more without fear. Because social fear is one of the most psychological cause for stammering. So, develop your confidence, nobody is perfect and we all learn from nothing. Try to spell difficult words and repeat them till you pronounce them properly. You have to talk more and more so that you can make your tongue work more faster. Don't think of people around you who laugh seeing you. Just tell them you are trying to overcome your stammering, they will surely help you. Try doing this you will surely see the great difference.

My voice is very low which is not heard from 2 or more Meyers so please suggest any medicine or any other suggestions.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Breathe deeply and exhale on a hisssssssing sound. Repeat 10 times. Proper breathing is the foundation for a healthy voice AND control over nervous energy that can make the voice quiver. Say “Mm-mmm (as in yummy) Mmm-hmm (like yes) ” Repeat 5 times. This develops mask resonance, which creates a clean and vibrant sound by creating a clean approximation of the cords and a resonance that will sound great and project easily. Say “Mm-mmm. Mmm-hmm.” up and down your vocal range, from low to middle to high and back again, 10 times.

It all depends on the vocal cords anatomical position and I will suggest you to rehearse your music as per your normal voice and do normal gargling and avoid any unnecessary food items and don't strain your self much and it can also be possible that after slow rehearsal you can get the pitch you want but it would take extra time.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Don't worry. This could just be a momentary problem. From some sort of learning spill. Do not try to advise against it. Do not try to correct the child's behaviour yourself. Just don't do anything and don't mention the stammering to the child and worry her more about it.
