First and foremost you need to control your blood sugar levels. Diabetes if uncontrolled than damages foot and nerves. You can consult with me regarding further management.

Symptoms of Hypothyroidism Fatigue. Weakness. Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight. Coarse, dry hair. Dry, rough pale skin. Hair loss. Cold intolerance (you can't tolerate cold temperatures like those around you) Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches. Treatment depends on thyroid profile and yes the test must be done frequently to monitor the disease.

Insulin is not a bad medicine. But depending upon your blood sugar and the oral medicines you take it may be possible to keep you off insulin. You have to be strict with your diet and exercise.

My age is 19 and I have obesity problem what can I do to reduce my weight should I go for thyroid check up or not Which one will be more helpful and please mention what are the symptoms of a thyroid.

PGP In Diabetologist, Fellowship in non-invasive Cardiology, MD - Medicine, MBBS
Endocrinologist, Delhi
Yes, of course. You must rule out thyroid problem. Tsh, t3 and t4 levels. Just as the types of thyroid conditions can vary, so can the symptoms of thyroid problems. Here, I have listed ten common symptoms of thyroid disease: nervousness and tremor: these symptoms, along with agitation, can signal an overfunction of the thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism). Mental fogginess and poor concentration: mental functioning can be affected in both hyperthyroidism (elevated levels of thyroid hormone) and hypothyroidism (too low levels of thyroid hormones). While sluggishness and depressed mood are often associated with hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism can also lead to a reduced capacity for concentration. Feeling bloated: fluid retention is often a sign of an underactive thyroid gland. Racing heartbeat: an increased heart rate (tachycardia) and palpitations can be symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Aches and pains: muscle aches and pain can accompany different types of thyroid problems. Weight gain: a modest amount of weight gain often accompanies conditions in which thyroid gland activity is lower than normal. High cholesterol levels: an increase in blood cholesterol levels can occur in individuals with hypothyroidism. Heat intolerance: people with an overactive thyroid gland often complain of intolerance to higher temperatures. Feeling cold: conversely, those with an underfunctioning thyroid may feel constantly cold. Sexual/ menstrual problems: like loss of libido and mentrual irregularities in females it is important to remember that none of these symptoms is absolutely specific for thyroid disease. All of them may be caused by a number of different conditions and normal states. Go for laboratory tests to evaluate the function of your thyroid gland if you have troubling symptoms.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

Mr. lybrate-user, Diabetes is well controlled mainly because of drugs that you are taking. Therefore, the present treatment has to be continued along with that you will have to exercise regularly, plus take a properly planned and restricted diet that provides exact amount of calories based on ideal body weight (65 kgs), extent of daily exercise and sugar levels. Thanks.

I am diabetic since last two years and taking drugs Glysipage G2b my sugar lavel is fasting 120To130. and post lunch 160 to180. After taking drugs twice a day now a days sugar level increases what to do ?

MD - Consultant Physician
General Physician, Mumbai
Your blood sugar seems to be fairly well controlled. A FBS less than 130 and PPBS less than 180 mg/dl if satisfactory for most people. If you are young, say less than 40 years, then a slightly tighter blood sugar level would be ideal. Check your HBA1C and see your average blood sugar.

Hello Mr. lybrate-user Gaining 35kgs is a way too high in past 4 years.. Weight gain is mainly associated with wrong eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle if there are no clinical conditions.. Follow sum simple guidelines >> ■ drink 2 glasses lukewarm water with lemon on an empty stomach. ■have good quality healthy breakfast.. ■ mid morning snack can be any single fruit. ■ again for the lunch you can much on raw salads n vegetable sabzi of your choice (cooked in less oil) with roti. ■ evening snack can be your herbal tea with roasted chana. ■ dinner should be as light as possible (means low calorie) so you can have soups or some kind of chaana chaat or so. See to it that you always have home cooked meals. Limit the portion size of your meals. Avoid fried, junk, sweets. Exercise at least 50mins a day (as per your age a brisk walk is recommended) Also get your TSH levels checked.

I am 36 years old, I am suffering from diabetes last 2 month's. What should i do?

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

My age is 53 and I am a female. I'm a patient of diabetes and thyroid. Please suggest me the fruits and vegetables which can help me control above mentioned diseases as. I want to cure it naturally. I've heard zinc helps maintain hormone levels in body. And my disease is also a hormonal one. Is all that true? Also suggest what are the minerals required to cure my problems.

Diploma in Diet and Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Hyderabad
1. Thyroid - No diet can cure this problem. You have to take medicine for life. 2. Diabetes - Eat whole grain food/grains like ragi, wheat, jowar instead of refined grains like maida/ sooji/ white bread etc..>> Reduce foods with high GI Index like potato, white rice, banana, mango..>> Avoid all forms of simple sugars like Colas, juices, sweets, cakes, biscuits, pizzas, noodles etc..>> Eat fruits with low/medium GI index like apple, guava, mosambi, orange. Diabetes can be controlled / managed through various measures.

Fasting 140 means your b. Sugar levels are not controlled with the medications you are taking. Your medicines need change. And as soon as possible coz high b. Sugar silently damages body organs in the long run.
