Hello Madam, Your prospective partner's thyroid reports are normal. He definitely needs to take the thyronorm all his life and he needs to get his thyroid tests done every 6-12 months. As long as his thyroid function tests are normal he should hopefully not have any symptoms. Low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, infertility etc are observed if the patient's thyroid function tests are abnormal and it has been found that even in these patients the symptoms become better/disappear after the patient has been on thyroxine supplemention for six months. May I also suggest you if you could directly ask your prospective partner about this. I wish you all the best Hope this has helped you Thank you.

Hello, My mother is having thyroid and blood anemia due to which her HB remains low. She is taking daily one dilzem tablet for heart beat function control and one thyroxine early morning as advice by doctor . Now recently she got some severe teeth pain and dentist advice her for root canal treatment of that teeth. As per HB test conducted today her hemoglobin is only 4.5. Request your advice whether we can go ahead with root canal treatment for teeth or should wait for HB to be little normal. Is there any risk to undergo root canal treatment at present position. Dentist told to consult physician and take advice to go ahead. Hence request your advice. My mother is 52 years old. Thanks!

Lybrate-user, root canal treatment (rct) is a surgical procedure, so it is better that before any such procedure blood picture improves. In fact hb 4.5g/100 ml, is too low. It may need packed cell (rbcs) transfusion. Or else should immediately start on iron preparations either capsules or if needed then injections. Hb g% should come to at least 8 to 10 g/100 ml, then operative procedure may be considered. Whether rct is done or not, she has to start on iron therapy immediately, becaus of very severe anemia. Such a condition will put severe strain on her heart function, thanks.

Bhuvanaji, if your mother diabetes and if it has been detected late in life, then it is most likely to t2 dm. This is a familial condition, meaning if parents have it, then children are likely to get it. But it is also a preventable disease. You can prevent it by adapting a modified life style, which means: regular exercise for more than 1 hour a day, maintaining normal weight, taking a balanced and restricted diet, giving exact calories based on ideal body weight and extent of daily exercise. Plus avoiding too much of sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. Consuming more of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Refraining form alcohol and smoking. Another common type of diabetes is t1 seen usually in children, where patients require insulin injection for survival and treatment.

Take diet for hypothyroidism:- high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread, nutrient-rich foods that improve your health may also benefit your thyroid gland, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables more plenty of water: blueberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and other foods rich in antioxidants can improve overall health and benefit the thyroid gland. Eating foods high in b vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. Flax oil, selenium: tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Eating selenium-rich foods, such as sunflower seeds or brazil nuts, can be beneficial. Tyrosine: this amino acid is used by the thyroid gland to produce t3 and t4. Yooji, diet for a diabetes patient is very individualised and specific. It is based on ideal body weight, sugar levels and extent of daily exercises. So unless all the details are given no diet can be prescribed. I need to know fasting and pp sugar levels, hba1c%, dietary pattern lipid profile, extent of daily exercise. It is better if you come in a private conversation with all the details, where I can give a specific plan.

Mr. Lybrate-user, by and large sildenafil has been found to be fairly safe even on long term use. A number clinical trials have shown it to be effective in producing erection even after use of over a number of years and safe enough. However, occasionally some side effects are observed with regard to vision, hearing, cardiovascular and bleeding episodes. Usage has to be done when absolutely needed. Thanks.
