Hi, masturbation happens in every culture, across every period of history, and it's the way most adolescents discover what they enjoy before embarking on adult sexual relationships. However, if it's becoming an obsession that inhibits other aspects of your life, or you belong to a religion or philosophy that forbids masturbation, then it's possible to curb the impulse, gather your self-discipline, and take control of your urges. Stay busy and less alone find another outlet for your time and energy. Fill your life with engaging activities. The excitement of doing something different can help replace the urge to masturbate, and you'll have a go-to distraction next time you're tempted. Try some of these options: be creative. The process of turning sexual urges into creative output (called sublimation) is something on which monks and sages have relied upon for centuries. Start writing, learn to play a musical instrument, paint, draw, or do whatever else makes you feel like you're doing something productive. Play sports. It takes discipline and persistence to excel at a sport. Develop an interest like running or swimming, or a group sport like soccer, football, basketball, or tennis. Also, any form of exercise will help you relieve tension, feel happier, and to make you focus on your physicality in a positive way. Yoga is another form of exercise that can help you feel more relaxed and less likely to feel the sudden urge to masturbate. Eat a healthy diet. Fruits and vegetables have healthy effects on the body and provide nutrients necessary to increase your energy to make you more active throughout the day. Find a new hobby, or cultivate a skill. Learning something that takes a while to master can refocus your brain on the delayed gratification of achieving goals instead of the instant gratification of masturbation. Try skills like cooking, woodshop, archery, baking, public speaking, or gardening. Volunteer your time. Devote your energy to helping teens who've been less fortunate than you, such as working at a shelter, tutoring low-income students, cleaning up blighted areas, or raising money for a good cause. You'll get an altruistic feeling from helping others, and you'll have less time to stray from your goals. Stop watching porn on your computer. One of the reasons you may be masturbating so much is that you know that you can access porn within seconds if you want to. However, if you don't have the willpower to stop looking at the porn on your own, then you may have to take other measures to get the job done: consider installing porn-blocking software on your computer. Of course you will know the password to bypass the blocking function, but just having it pop up will remind you of your priorities. You can also type a random password in a text file, copy and paste it when you enter your password and verify it, then delete the text file. Then, you will not be able to know the password of your own porn-blocker. This is the best way to keep you strong and spare you the struggle. If you have the tendency to masturbate looking at porn on the computer, try moving your computer into a room where others can see you. If you have a physical collection of porn, dispose of it asap. Get help. Porn addiction apps such as brainbuddy are designed to rewire your brain so you crave real connection instead of porn. Most importantly, if you want to stop your masturbation addiction, then you should do it for reasons that are personal and moral, not for reasons that are health-related. The only real health problem that can be caused is pain and rawness from chronic masturbation, but that can go away if you stop touching yourself so frequently. Here are some things that masturbation will not do to your body: masturbation will not cause infertility, premature ejaculation, or impotence. Masturbation will not cause insanity. Masturbation will not cause blindness, or even eye floaters. Masturbation will not cause frequent urination. Masturbation does not affect facial hair, growth, facial features, kidneys, testicles, or skin problems, or cause any major physical issues! these are all myths. All the best.

Can you suggest one thing about when children's are in depression mood. How will be we get them in normal position.
Children are in real depression when they do not get a thing which their friend have---------------------we can overcome this condition by teaching true values to our children and convince them about whether that thing is important and useful for them or not-------------------

I am a male and having problems in depression. I cannot talk much when I am depressed. Everytime I am simply thinking.
alone thinking is a dangerous thing. it increases depressive thoughts. when you have problems it is beter to express with your friends and family members. man is a social animal. we can not do alone. every day we express our internal feelings with others. no one is not intellectual. every one has their own problems. but some body have their capacity to maintain reservedness. solve their own problems with out inform others. but some body like you sensitive personalities. do not have capacity to solve your own problems and feelings. in that case better to take the help of friends and family members. alone thinking no use. it also disturbs your internal status. so better to make friendly relations with others. choose one good friend share all your feelings regularly. dont sit alone in home. better to spend most of the time with busy schedule. better to share others. dont think i am depressed. if you feel you are under depression. if you not feel there is no chance of depression. so be optimistic all the time. be positive. be feel always comfortable. be enjoy the every movement of life. ok all the best.

Dear user, Anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety medicines alone cannot cure anxiety disorders mainly because medicines do not alter behavior. Behavior change and Continuous practice of the changed behavior cure anxiety. I suggest anxiety education, progressive counseling and progressive psychotherapy. I assure you complete cure. I need to know more about your anxiety so that I will be able to diagnose it properly and provide you tips to overcome and manage your anxiety. Take care.

I lost my friend last month and since feel depressed and prefer keeping myself. Pls help me.
It is natural to feel low and miss the person you have lost. However if it is interfering with your sleep, studies or general well being, or if you feel suicidal, you need to consult a psychiatrist. It is common to feel low, cry, feel like you are alone, or lose your self confidence. Usually time is the best healer. However if things are too difficult to handle you should talk to a psychiatrist or counselor. Confide in someone close to you, who will support you in this difficult time. Don't cut off from friends or family, even if you feel like you want to be alone. You can contact me for further help, if required.

Dear lybrate-user, welcome to lybrate. You must be able to understand concentration, attention span, recollection and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. If the task is boring, it is natural that that person will sleep or feel sleepy. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions. Please understand the above. Change your study style and attitude accordingly.

Your blood pressure is having normal variations within the normal range and you should continue your blood pressure medication because of which your blood pressure is still within the normal range. Normal range of blood pressure is between 90/60 to 140/90. As far as your heartbeat is concerned I need to understand concepts Palpitations are feelings or sensations that your heart is pounding or racing. They can be felt in your chest, throat, or neck. You may Have an unpleasant awareness of your own heartbeat or may Feel like your heart skipped or stopped beats The heart's rhythm may be normal or abnormal when you have palpitations. Normally the heart beats 60 to 100 times per minute. The rate may drop below 60 beats per minute in people who exercise routinely or take medicines that slow the heart. If your heart rate is fast (over 100 beats per minute), this is called tachycardia. A heart rate slower than 60 is called bradycardia. An occasional extra heartbeat is known as extrasystole. Palpitations are not serious most of the time. Sensations representing an abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia) may be more serious. You need to get yourself checked what you are having is intermittent tachycardia / arrhythmia which means that intermittently your heart rate increases or the heart Rhythm changes which can be dangerous if it does not get corrected on its own. Or it can be an early sign of impending heart disease. But to diagnose it you need to get an ECG done while you are having the rhythm problem or you can get holter monitoring for 24 hours during which if you have this episode it will get registered and documented. Also you need to get a complete lipid profile done as well as a echocardiogram and blood sugar levels to look for risk factors. Once you have done that you need to Consult a cardiologist with the reports.

If I occasionally dream of someone I lost a few years ago in an accident, what does it mean?

M.S. Counselling and Psychotherapy
Psychologist, Bangalore
If I occasionally dream of someone I lost a few years ago in an accident, what does it mean?
It probably means that you are either missing that person or still have strong memories of that person. Our dreams are a combination of our own desires, memories, experiences, imagination etc. Hence all dreams may not really mean anything. But if you occasionally have this dream then you need to understand your more subtle feelings about losing that person. If it was after an accident, then it was a shock for you. It might have caused some trauma for you. Understand and accept your feelings of loss, sadness, pain and grief. Eventually you need to" let it go" life is a flow. We lose some people but for the survivors, the journey continues. When your mind accepts that, the deceased person is not going to come back and you need to move ahead in life, tell yourself that, that person has gone away and you have a life ahead without you. You will learn to let go of that person and move on.

Hi. I am 27 years old male single. I cannot control my anger. And whenever I get angry or falls into any kind of arguments my heart beats very fast and hand and legs starts to shiver. Please help.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
The physical reactions you describe indicate that you could be really scared but acting angry to cover it up. The fear is an energy sapping feeling, whereas the anger supplies energy! that is why many people act angry when they are really sacred. If that is true for you too, look into that and talk to a counselor, if you do not understand the mechanism. Sometimes the fear may be too much to let yourself feel it. Delve into your background with the counselor to locate that and when you deal with that your problems may just disappear. If on the other hand, the anger is genuine, trace it back to whenever from your past and deal with it. Many of us accumulate unexpressed feelings from the immediate or long past and we then become very fragile and vulnerable to even minor provocations and let out huge steam unmatched to the stimulus. This will make you an easy target by those who want to get a sick pleasure out of provoking you. You will then become a spectacle and a plaything in their hands. For this too, I recommend the help of a counselor. Exercise is an excellent outlet for the energy of the anger so that you will never loose your cool.

Health Effects of Smoking 3 Cigarettes A Day!

MD PULMONARY, DTCD
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
Health Effects of Smoking 3 Cigarettes A Day!

Smoking can cause irreparable damage to your mind and body. Chemicals in the tobacco travel to all parts of the body, leaving no area unaffected. According to available data, smoking causes 30% of all cancer deaths and about 80% deaths from emphysema and bronchitis. In addition to adversely affecting yourself, smoking also has a severe impact on your near and dear ones. According to WHO, about 600,000 people die every year from passive smoking. Out of the deaths that occur due to this, 1/3rd is that of children.

The Indian situation
While 85% of tobacco users worldwide consume it in the form of cigarettes, in India only 13% use it in that form. Additionally, 54% use it in the form of beedis. A study conducted on Indian smokers has revealed that an average of 8.2 cigarettes is smoked by an individual daily.

The study also revealed that the number of cigarettes smoked every year had grown to over 6 trillion. While 1 out of 10 adults dies from tobacco use worldwide, 5% of deaths in women and 20% of deaths in men in India are caused by cigarette and beedi smoking.

What happens when you smoke?
Cigarette smoke is made up of 4000 chemicals that are present either as tiny particles or gases and about 50 are known to lead to cancer, the toxin nicotine being one of them. In addition to nicotine, the chemicals that make up cigarette smoke also include tar and carbon monoxide. Prolonged exposure to these toxins can hamper your body's ability to filter air and clean the lungs. The smoke not only irritates the lungs but also causes excess production of mucus.

It also causes a paralysis of the tiny hair-like structures like cilia that line the airways and are responsible for removing dust and dirt from the organ. Paralysis of these hair-like structures also causes a buildup of mucus and toxic substances, leading to lung congestion. The extra mucus that is produced causes smokers to suffer from the very ubiquitous smoker's cough and chronic bronchitis.

It's also one of the many triggers of asthma, which brings about the narrowing and inflammation of the airways. Long-term exposure to tobacco smoke causes the destruction of the structure of the lung, walls of the airways as well as lung tissue. The result is a condition known as emphysema. Additionally, smoking also leads to cancer of the lung and over 80% lung cancer cases occur due to this habit. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Pulmonologist.
