I am suffering from Varicose veins problem from last many years I have done one laser surgery with Dr. Padariya at jaslock Hospital But same problems repeat again Please suggest me some proper doctor.

DNB (Radio Diagnosis), MBBS
Radiologist, Hyderabad
Hello, It is unfortunate that you are suffering from recurrent varicose veins. Although laser procedure is very successful (more than 97% success rate), sometimes the varicose veins can recur. The reasons for recurrence is 1. Other veins in the leg may develop varicosities apart from the treated vein 2. Recanalization of the ablated vein 3. Unusual anatomy, such as accessory veins which may be missed during doppler testing. It is thus important to get a detailed doppler mapping of the veins before treatment. In my clinic I perform doppler as well as laser myself.

Hello doctor, my friend started to go for gym, cycling, and fast walking for one hour from one week. Now he got varicose veins in his left leg. What should be done? Any precautions to make it normal. Thank you.

Hello lybrate-user Varicose veins can be caused due to excessive abdominal straining, leg injury, prolonged standing, hereditary also play an important role in its occurrence. You can start Homeopathic medicine they are totally safe without any side effect. Along with Homeopathic medicines management is very important such as wearing stockings, external compression, avoid prolonged standing, weight reduction, elevation of the effected leg during sleep.

Lumbar Herniated Disc Pain - 3 Hamstring Stretches for it

MD, FIPP
Pain Management Specialist, Kolkata
Lumbar Herniated Disc Pain - 3 Hamstring Stretches for it

The sciatic pain caused due to a lumbar herniated disc can radiate down your legs and may make you immobile. It is quite common for a herniated disc to press against a nearby nerve and inflame, leading to pain radiating along the length of the affected sciatic nerve. For getting relief from lumbar herniated disc pain, you need to become active. Daily hamstring stretches are considered to be an effective way to tackle such pain if you do them regularly.

Here are three important hamstring stretches which will help you in strengthening your hamstring muscles:

  1. Seated chair stretches: This stretch is perfect for people whose mobility is limited or for those who have unusually tight hamstrings. It is carried out in a sitting position. While performing this stretch, you have to sit on a chair with another chair placed across. By resting one foot on the ground and the other on the second chair, you need to straighten your back and lean forward over the leg which is extended. Once you feel a stretch in the upper and rear thigh, you should be in that position for at least 30 seconds. You should switch legs and repeat the stretching exercise thrice for each leg.
  2. Towel hamstring stretch: If you like stretching while lying down, this stretch is an ideal option for you. For performing a towel hamstring stretch, you have to lie down on the floor and keep one leg flat. Tighten your abdominal muscles while you lift the other leg and keep it straight. You should wrap a belt around the elevated leg’s instep and use it for pulling back the leg towards you. Hold the position for around 30 seconds when you feel a stretch.
  3. Wall hamstring stretch: This stretch is for people who find the towel hamstring stretch hard to execute. For such people, extra stability can be attained by taking help of a solid surface such as a door jamb or a wall. You can rest the raised leg against the wall for support. You need to lie on the floor near a wall corner and leave one leg straight while placing the other against the wall. Your hips should be on the floor.

While you do stretches of any kind, you should only stretch as far as you are comfortable. You must not stretch to a point which causes pain. These hamstring stretches are quite safe, but you should avoid them in case of any sudden, acute pain.

My friend gets lower back pain in the backbone when he doesn't masturbate for a week. Also he gets pain in his lower abdomen if he doesn't ejaculate for a week or more. Both pain comes together. Both backbone and lower abdomen pain would go away in an hour after he masturbates. He feels relaxed after that. It feels for him like some gland which releases semen is getting loaded and its causing the pain. Which goes away once he ejaculates. Also while ejaculating when the semen is being released, he ll feel some minor pain in his lower abdomen or seminal gland or whatever. If he tries to press his lower abdomen (just below his belly) he can feel the pain. He even had ultrasound test of his lower abdomen and private area. It was found that he had varicocele in vas deferens. He says though he has varicocele but till why would he feel the pain in his lower abdomen and lower back if he doesn't masturbate for a week. Exactly on the seventh day he will feel the pain and would go and forcefully ejaculate to relieve from his pain. The pain would only increase if he holds back and doesn't masturbate. This is a very odd type of problem which not many people face. He has also met few doctors, most of them would say back pain is because of calcium deficiency, which really doesn't seem so. But they never gave an answer for lower abdominal pain occurrence and why he has to masturbate always to get relief from pain. So if anyone can understand my friends problem. Who has had treated something like this, though this surely is very complicated. Could you suggest what should be done. Whats is this problem. Thank-you in advance to every doctor who are gonna give their valuable suggestions.

Hii, I am Siddhesh 27 years of age. I suffered from pulmonary embolism recently. I recently had color doppler test which clarifies that I do not have dvt in my legs. I have varicose veins in my legs and one of my doctor suggested to have operation for varicose. 1) I just wanted to know whether its necessary to have the operation done 2) what are the chances of further getting dvt or pulmonary embolism 3) What sort of precautions should I take for not getting dvt again. 4)Can varicose veins leads to dvt. 5) now it has been 4 months so can I resume gym and sports related activities. Thankyou.

PGD Maternal Child Health, MBBS
General Physician, Akola
Vaicose veins may get thrombosed but the possibility of a thrombus getting dislodged from the wall is far less as compared to deep vein thrombosis. As the doppler has not shown any evidence of dvt in deep veins of legs, the basic question remains, that wherfrom the thrombus got away to cause pulmonary embolism. Fortunately nothing untoward occurred but presuming it was from saphenious vein, precautions are essential. Avoid long immobilization of limbs, squeezing pressure on calves, very heavy exercises to leg muscles etc. Monitor your bleeding time, clotting time, prothrombin time and inr at regular intervals. As for getting operated, the decision is risk oriented. If there had been direct evidence of some clot in leg veins, it would have been strongly indicated. You may need to continue with low dose anticoagulants for some period.

Showed to and tried medicines from Ayurvedic, allopathic as well as Homeopathic during 3 months. No relief. No one is saying why it is there except allopathic Dr. said it is due to varicose veins. Hi. In varicose veins there is classical dilatation and prominence of superficial veins of leg is seen. It appears to be a case of lymphedema. I think you should consult a surgeon nearby. Avoid prolong standing/ walking/sitting upright. Keep the limb elevated and use graded compression stockings. Thanks.

What precautions are to be taken in case of varicose veins detection in early stages.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Earlier stages of varicose veins are treated by wearing stockings, sleeping with legs elevated and sclerotherapy (injection of sclerosing agents in the veins ). Advanced stages are treated by destruction of defective valves in the veins or surgical removal of veins. In cases where there are no symptoms except bad cosmetic experience, no treatment is offered. You must get yourself evaluated by getting a Doppler ultrasound of veins done which would reveal the exact status of your veins.

Almost a month ago sudden onset of a dragging and numb feeling in my testis. Then within days that numb feeling went but what it left behind is some swollen veins at the lower end of the testis and swelling of the spermatic cord at the top of the testis (I confused it with varicocele). Also within a week a sort of burning sensation while urinating and at one point of time that burning sensation calm down by masturbating only for a while. Then, in continuity, a sudden more burning sensation feeling which brings a sense of urinating which only goes only after 4-5 times of urination which at the end, discharges semen through urine which had very poor quality compared to the sperm which come out usually. Just to get relief from the problem I have changed my dietary pattern which is purely veg consisting of breakfast only of fruits and thereafter also lots of fruits intake. Left smoking and totally abstaining from sex or masturbation. Have started yoga. As of now that burning sensation have gone but that swelling in veins at lower end of testis, which gives a feeling of bag of worms (as happens in varicocele, but mind it this is just at the lower end of left testis where the vas deferens lower end connects with epididymis coil and there is also swelling in the main vas deferens cord starting from the pelvis area till the top end of the left testis itself). Since the occurrence of this problem the sexual urge is totally absent, but the erection is still proper. Do not know what to do. Kindly guide.

Dear lybrate-user. From your description I am not sure whether you have varicocele or not and even if it is there, is it really linked to your problems. Please see a urologist and take proper advice.

MS - General Surgery
General Surgeon, Kanpur
Varicose vein can be investigated further, ultrasound Doppler study or say duplex scan can be done, to see where is the defect, according to this defect can be treated either by sclerotherapy or by laser or by open method, varicose veins can be excised. You can consult vascular surgeon. By the time use compression bandage in 3 layer, keep leg elevated as long as you can, put pillows under leg in night.

Hi. That's a complication of varicose vein called as lipodermatosclerosis. It's the time you should undergo surgery as it may lead to ulcer formation. Wear graded compression stockings, avoid prolong standing.
