Dear doctor, I got grey hair at the age of 17 or 18 (hereditary effect) I have been using henna and branded hair dyes (loreal and matrix). Apart from grey hair, I do have hair loss and scalp problem. I thought it was drandruff but later came to that dry skin on scalp is irritating and due to frequent scratching it made few tiny wounds (blood clots). I am exhausted using anti drandruff shampoos and visiting lots of doctors. Can you please help me in getting rid this problems

Apart from all else, you probably have an unhealthy scalp which is promoting hair-fall and itching. You need proper medication - shampoos are not adequate. Tell me your bowel condition also as most problems commence from the belly.

How to remove hairs of womens inner body

Is veet is safe to remove it.
Instead of using hair remover creams which contain chemicals and are harmful to skin, in my opinion it's better to get waxing done which is safer even if it is a little painful procedure.

Footwear with heels and their biomechanical impact on heel pain

Bachelor in Physiotherapy, Msc Advanced Sports Therapy and Rehab Science (UK), honorary Doctorate
Physiotherapist, Chennai
Footwear with heels and their biomechanical impact on heel pain
Introduction

Women loves high heels, but if they continue wearing them all time chances of significant foot pain and associated problems either can occur directly or exacerbated by wearing heels. (Morin, n.d.).

Any time person wears footwear that disturbs or realigns the natural counter of the foot they are bound to cause foot pain the experts says. While, if you add a bit of inches (high heels) in to this calculations then the pain can soon escalate to damage says Stuart Mogul expert in podiatry. Due to this, there exists the change in the body segmental alignment. For instance wearing high heels will restrict the natural movement of the foot and in addition to the restriction there is increased loading of weight on that area hence the person is not just crushing the toes, but adding exaggerated body weight on them says the Sports Scientist (Biomechanics) Vasanth Kumar from Chennai who is also a performance coach.

Consequences of wearing footwear with heel

Researchers have found that people wearing high heels (2 Inches or more) have tighter calves. About 13% short on the calf muscle fibres on an average was found in the calf muscle scans among the people with frequent heel wearers in comparison with the people who avoided wearing heels. A study by Journal of Experimental Biology found that high heels led to stiffer calf (Achilles) tendons.

A study by Professor Marco Narici, (Manchester Metropolitan University) that involved 11 volunteers from 80 group of women who wore 5cms (2 Inches) of heel for over a period of two years had issues and struggled while walking on flat foot (Bare Foot). An MRI Scan of these volunteers showed no significant difference in length of the calf muscles in comparison with the group of women who wore flat shoes. While, an Ultra Sound scan showed shorter calf among the women who wore heels. In addition, the women who wore heels were asked to lie on their front on the couch and the researchers noticed the angle of the heel were greater due to the shortened calf. Above all these, the tendons were much thicker and stiffer among the women wearing heels than those who wore flat footwear that causes discomfort while walking on flat feet since the tendon cannot stretch sufficiently.

Prevention

Sammy Margo, chartered physiotherapist from London says not to wear heels or flat shoes all the time but to wear variety of heel heights that can keep the muscle in right length (Anon., 2010). Secondly, the researchers and scientists have found out that performing some regular stretching activities can minimise the issue of calf muscle tightening.

Stretching Exercises

Stand on tiptoes on a step, and using a handrail for balance to lower their heels as far as they can and hold the position for 10 – 15 seconds.
Strengthening the Tibialis anterior (Shin Muscle) muscle can be of a help (Toe Raise) for a count of 8 – 10 Repetitions 2 -3 sets a day says the Sports Scientist.

Tips

Select footwear with low heels – an inch and a half or lesser while a wider heel base can be of more help; a slightly thicker heel will spread the load more evenly. Narrow, stiletto-type heels provide little support and three inch or higher heels may shorten (Tighten) the Achilles tendon.

Softer insoles can reduce the impact on the knees.

Selecting right size footwear is more essential. Wearing shoes that allow your body to move naturally during walking will allow your feet, legs, hips and back to stretch.

Stretch your muscles as many times as possible during the day and while during rest.

Difference in Radiographs between High Heels and Normal Footwear

Conclusion

Do not let your sense of style cripple your ability to stand or step pain-free. “Your feet are, quite literally, your base of support. If your feet aren’t happy, nothing above them will be,” says Dr. Nevins. “Take a closer look at your shoe selection and take small steps now to prevent big foot problems later.” (Nevins, 2015). In addition to all these the above exercises as a regular routine will keep the muscles in the right length and can be used as the preventive factor.

If there is no pain while the joints sound, then there is nothing to worry. But you can do brisk walking for 30 minutes daily. Eat you food regularly. Have regular sleeping time and waking time. Do not stay awake during night and do not sleep in the day time.

You are loosing hair, do you see lot of hair falling completely form the root or are they breaking off? how long you are having hair fal and how many hairs average per day? you could use voluminizing shampoos there is one availbale by pantene, but that just gives a visual feel of volume but you need to look into your hair fall. Watch your diet, include lots of fruits and vegetables. Check your hemoglobin, serum ferritin, b12 levels and thyroid function tests - if there are within normal limits. If the hair fall continues and loosing too many hairs consult a dermatologist.

Effects of Dehydration on Skin And Hair

MBBS, DDV
Dermatologist, Mumbai
Effects of Dehydration on Skin And Hair

The average adult human body is about 60 percent water. Skin alone contains 63 percent water. Water is required for our cells to transport nutrients and minerals throughout our bodies, and also to help eliminate wastes and toxins. When you don’t drink enough water, you become dehydrated. Dehydration prevents your body from eliminating toxins through your skin, which in turn makes your skin more susceptible to skin problems and disorders, such as dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, discoloration, and even premature wrinkling. Assuming these issues were caused by dehydration, they can be improved over time with proper hydration.

There’s no doubt that adequate water intake is also needed for hair cells to transport nutrients and vitamins to the hair root. This process is responsible for keeping hair hydrated from the inside out, which directly affects hair growth and retention. If you’ve been experiencing hair breakage and shedding, or you haven’t seen noticeable hair growth after several months, dehydration may be to blame. Because our bodies rely so heavily on water, vital parts like the brain, heart, kidneys, blood, and lungs receive water first, while the hair gets whatever is left over. If you’re not drinking much water, chances are, that’s little or nothing. Besides encouraging hair growth, proper hydration can also help with dry scalp, itching, and flaking. So always drink lots of water, eat fresh fruits and vegetables like Watermelon,Cantaloupe,Kiwi,Apple,Mint,Pineapple,Orange and Lemons to keep yourself hydrated. Also avoid meat, oily and spicy food in summer.Excess tea, coffee and other caffeinated drinks should be avoided.

Hello, wrist pain can be of many reason. At this young and dynamic age it mostly because of biomechanical positional fault. Thus, it can be effectively dealt by an orthopedic physiotherapist who can give you immediate relief by coreecting the positional fault. But at the same time, other reasons behind the pain have to be ruled out. In the mean time you can apply ketoplast pain plaster at he painful area for 24 hours. Hope it helps. Thanks.

My mom is always having pain in her legs specially at the time of sleeping. Please suggest.
I think your mom may be a home maker and stands for a longer time. Ask her to do hot water and cold water immersion in a tub alternatively for each about 3 min as a whole for 10 to 15 min. Of possible give her a slow gentle massge for her foot. This will surely reduce her pain and she can sleep well. Take care of your mom. Give her some rest.

Calcium and Vitamin D. Older adults need more calcium and vitamin D to help maintain bone health. Have three servings of vitamin D-fortified low-fat or fat-free milk or yogurt each day. Other calcium-rich foods include fortified cereals and fruit juices, dark green leafy vegetables and canned fish with soft bones. Milk contains nine of these essential nutrients. The nine essential nutrients found in milk are calcium, potassium, phosphorus, protein, vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin B12, riboflavin, and niacin. Each of these nutrients is a key ingredient of milk, and they all work together to help keep our bodies healthy. The same source reports that women older than age 50 need 1,600 calories if they are sedentary, 1,800 calories if they are moderately active and 2,000 to 2,200 calories per day to maintain a healthy body weight if they lead an active lifestyle. Diet is often referred to as some dietary regimen for losing weight. However, diet simply means what food we eat in the course of a 24-hour, one week, or one month, etc. Period. A good diet is a nutritional lifestyle that promotes good health.

Hello doctor. I have got a cramp on my right hand arm muscle. I can move my hands freely but some times at some point a nerve inside pains. How to cure it. Any home remedies.

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT

Hello doctor. I have got a cramp on my right hand arm muscle. I can move my hands freely but some times at some point...
Pain in the arm can result from a number of factors. Abnormalities or injury of the skin, nerves, bones, joints, blood vessels, and soft tissues of the arm can all result in pain. Arm pain may be the result of referred pain from another part of the body. Please go to a physiotherapist to assess and treat the underlying condition. If pain is caused by an activity, modify or stop the activity. Rest the arm and resume activity gradually. Monitor the response to the activity. Pain experienced in the right arm is usually not serious, but when it is coupled with other symptoms like pain in the leg or tightness of the chest, it may be more serious. Try some home remedies: ice will reduce pain and swelling. Apply ice or cold packs immediately to prevent or minimize swelling. Apply the ice or cold pack for 10 to 20 minutes, 3 or more times a day. Elevate the painful area on pillows while applying ice and anytime you are sitting or lying down. Try to keep the area at or above the level of your heart to help minimize swelling. Apply heat and begin gentle exercise with the aid of moist heat to help restore and maintain flexibility. Some experts recommend alternating between heat and cold treatments. Gently massage or rub the area to relieve pain and encourage blood flow. Do not massage the area if it causes pain. Do not smoke or use other tobacco products. Smoking slows healing because it decreases blood supply and delays tissue repair. Please consult a physiotherapist for detail assessment and management of your arm pain. Best wishes.
