How To Know More Your Wrist Pain? It Might Be A Carpel Tunnel Syndrome!

Any condition that results in numbness and tingling in the hand and arm caused by a pinched median nerve in the wrist leads to carpel tunnel syndrome. Irritation of the median nerve in this manner causes tingling and numbness of the thumb, index, and the middle fingers.
Symptoms: people mainly experience hand numbness, sensation of pins and needles in hand, hand pain at night, hand weakness/clumsiness (loss of gripping power) or wrist weakness. 

Special test: 
1. Phalen sign- tingling in the median nerve distribution is induced by full flexion (or full extension for reverse phalen) of the wrists for up to 60 seconds (this test has 80% specificity). 
2. The carpal compression test- this test involves applying firm pressure directly over the carpal tunnel, usually with the thumbs, for up to 30 seconds to reproduce symptoms (this test has specificity of 96%).
All special tests are performed by the physical therapist. 

Diagnosis: carpel tunnel syndrome is suspectedly based on symptoms, supported by physical examination signs, and confirmed by nerve conduction testing.

Treatment: mild symptoms usually can be treated with home care.
1. Stop activities that cause numbness and pain. Rest your wrist longer between activities.
2. Ice your wrist for 10 to 15 minutes 1 or 2 times a day along with physiotherapy treatment. 
3. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsaids) to relieve pain and reduce swelling.
4. Wear a wrist splint at night. This takes pressure off your median nerve.
The sooner you start treatment, the better your chances of stopping symptoms and preventing long-term damage to the nerve.

Dear Lybrate user, your pain might be because of your daily routine. Start doing morning stretchs. Ike hamstring stretch, calf stretch, bridging exercise, pushups and a bit of morning walk for about 20 min of stretch. Avoid lifting activities and long walking or sitting work. These exercises and precautions definitely reduce your pain to a much extent.

It's rarely found together both of. But in few cases it's possible and interlinked. You start physiotherapy and rehabilitation exercises to cure RA and aerobic and strengthening exercise to improve mobility flexibility and strengthen the joint and abdomen. And use salakhi, aloevera, twin stem sachet, rise onn syrup, guggal/suth to improve and control prob. All of together they reduce your prob asap and you find better.

Sir, my daughter age 18 years she has suffering from paralysis past four years after accident now paralyzed left side half of body. Now she is bed patients, she is not able to stand and walk sir physio therapy is going on but not progressing. So please tell me what l do.

This part of the spine is often injured as a result of poor postural habits and structures which can cause pain include joints, muscles, ligaments, nerves and discs. I suggest you take physiotherapy like joint mobilisation, traction, deep tissue releases and exercises. Advice relieve your pain by correcting its cause, for example the correction of poor postural habits. And use polytos capsule, q 10 nitro capsule, and neuroforte caps.

Cervical spondylosis Diet & Lifestyle Advice Increase intake of oily foods that are easily digested, sweet things, purified butter, vegetable soups, milk and almonds. Avoid rice, refined flour, kidney beans, and other foods that cause flatulence. Avoid physical and mental exertion. Get a good night’s sleep. Have regular, gentle body massage with lukewarm sesame oil. Dhanurasan and Ujjai Pranayam are highly recommended for cervical pains. Home Remedies Take one tablespoon of castor oil before going to bed, once or twice a week. This helps cleansing ama (toxins) and balancing vata. Peel two cloves of garlic and crush it. Add this to a glass of milk. Boil it on a mild flame till one-fourth glass remains. Filter and make two equal parts. Drink one part in the morning and the other in the evening. Warm mustard oil or sesame oil (1 teaspoon) with 3-4 cloves of crushed garlic and 1 tsp of ajwain (carom) seeds until it roasts to a reddish brown colour. Ensure that it does not get burned.
