Hypertension - 6 Signs You Be Beware Of!

Commonly people believe that you can understand your blood pressure is high if you are feeling dizzy suddenly, or you are not able to sleep at night. Also sweating profusely is often related to having hypertension. But, to be honest, hypertension usually does not have any symptoms which might help you get alert and take action to control it. This actually imposes a great threat to your well being as you do not understand if you have hypertension. It is extremely important for you to keep checking your blood pressure level in order to avoid developing hypertension and hence developing a risk to your heart.

Although there aren't any major or very noticeable symptoms, here is a list of some rare symptoms which you can follow:

1. Headaches: If you are suffering from dull headaches almost regularly, it might be because you blood pressure has increased. The headaches can be a dull buzz or a severe migraine like ache. Keep monitoring your headaches and consult your doctor as soon as possible.

2. Dizziness: You might suddenly feel dizzy or you might feel you are about to pass out if your blood pressure increases. Make sure you refer to a doctor as soon as something like this happens.

3. Nosebleeds: A sudden occurrence of nosebleed might also be a symptom of a sudden increase in your blood pressure.

4. Severe anxiety: Severe anxiety or a panic attack is often referred to as a symptom of hypertension. If you have a sudden panic attack with no apparent reason, it may be because your blood pressure has suddenly risen.

5. Shortness of breath: High blood pressure may often cause a shortness of breath. You might experience it during various every day activity like walking, climbing stairs, etc.

6. Nausea: A sudden increase in blood pressure might make you feel nauseous. You might even vomit when this happens. Make sure you consult your doctor if this happens.

Sudden Death Due to Heart Problem

When the normal functioning of the heart shuts down suddenly due to heart disease or any other cardiovascular condition, then this is known as sudden death due to a heart problem. Every year, there are over 100,000 deaths globally due to this reason, as per various medical studies. Sudden Cardiac Arrest or SCD is a cause of death for many adults who may or may not be suffering from chronic heart disease. Let us find out more about this condition.

- Difference between SCD and Heart Attack: A myocardial infraction or heart attack can happen when there is a blockage in one of the arteries of the heart which prevents the passage of blood and oxygen to the heart's varied chambers. When the oxygen present in the blood does not reach the heart in adequate amounts and on time, it can lead to a heart attack. In the case of SCD or sudden cardiac arrest, the problem happens due to a shutdown of the heart after a malfunction in the electrical systems which can lead to varied irregularities. 

Accelerated heartbeats, fluttering and quivering of the ventricles which is also known as ventricular fibrillation, as well as other similar causes can ensure that the blood does not reach the heart on time, which can lead to sudden death. The patient usually loses consciousness within the very first few minutes as the blood does not reach the brain.

- Symptoms: There are a number of symptoms that are associated with this phenomenon. While losing consciousness is one of the first signs, others include a racing heartbeat as well as heart rhythm problems and dizzy spells. The symptoms usually take place suddenly without prior warning and lead to a complete shutdown of the heart and its functions.

- Causes: The main cause of SCD is a condition known as arrhythmias which is basically characterised by abnormal heart rhythms and vertical fibrillation which leads to disorganised impulses to be released from the ventricles due to which the heart cannot pump blood properly. It can lead to death within a matter of minutes if it remains untreated.

- Revival: On an emergency basis, the patient will have to be given CPR by an expert at the emergency unit of the hospital. This is a manual process of retrieving the patient by pumping the chest and breathing into the patient's mouth. Portable defibrillators can also be used to revive the patient in such cases.

- Risk Factors: Patients who have suffered heart attacks in the past and have a family history of heart disease and heart attacks, are at maximum risk when it comes to SCD. Also, factors like obesity and diabetes can increase the risk.

I am 36 years but my bp is always 160/98. And due to some tension it may come 5o 210/130. I am not taking any medicine but 5 years back I had done lipid all the thing are OK but cholesterol in blood is there at that time I had taken medicine hut I got much joint pain in my leg and ai am unable to walk or curve my knee. Right now when I had dropped medicine I am on right now .will I take medicine for bp or control it by another way.

BP control is not easy as it fluctuates several times a day. Also your numbers are very high for your age. You need to work closely with a MD physician for proper BP control with meds and side by side do things that lower BP. Yoga. Meditation. Brisk walks. Low salt diet. Green vegetables. Fruits etc. Having constantly high BP can cause Heart disease. Kidney failure. Stroke etc. Take it seriously Good luck.

Stop drinking or smoking if you do and stop eating outside food eat healthy a lot of fruits and vegetables a lot of salad drink a lot of water exercise at least 25 to 50 minutes per day and you be fine in a couple of months.

Hi lybrate-user, use Oils: olive, canola, safflower oil, sunflower oil (high mono- and poly- unsaturated fat) and Nuts and Seeds: walnuts, almonds, sunflower, cashew, peanut butter (mono- and poly-unsaturated fats; some saturated fats as well) in your diet. Other things you can do is: 1. Physical Activity - Regular cardiovascular activity has been shown to raise HDL cholesterol levels as well as lower LDL levels. Regular weight training will increase HDL levels as well, but has less of an effect on lowering LDL. The most drastic changes in levels happen in conjunction with regular exercise and healthy, LDL cholesterol lowering/HDL boosting diets. The combo leads to a change that is higher than just diet or exercise alone. 2. Calorie Restriction and Weight Loss - Research on calorie restriction has found that moderately restricting ones energy intake by 20% not only decreases your bodyweight, body fat and blood pressure, but also increases HDL levels in the blood. 3. Moderate Alcohol Consumption - Probably the most controversial, some research has found that moderate alcohol consumption may reduce your chances of heart disease by increasing your HDL cholesterol levels and prevent blood clots from forming. This seems to be most apparent in people over 50 years of age that already have high LDL numbers. Moderate alcohol consumption for men is 1 to 2 drinks per day, whereas women should drink even less; closer to .5 to 1.5 drinks per day. Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that occurs naturally in all parts of the body. Your body needs some cholesterol to work properly. But if you have too much in your blood, it can combine with other substances in the blood and stick to the walls of your arteries. This is called plaque. Plaque can narrow your arteries or even block them. High levels of cholesterol in the blood can increase your risk of heart disease. Your cholesterol levels tend to rise as you get older. There are usually no signs or symptoms that you have high blood cholesterol, but it can be detected with a blood test. You are likely to have high cholesterol if members of your family have it, if you are overweight or if you eat a lot of fatty foods. You can lower your cholesterol by exercising more and eating more fruits and vegetables. You also may need to take medicine to lower your cholesterol. High LDL high cholesterol put you on a higher risk of atherosclerotic diseases and heart attacks especially if you have other is factors including hypertension diabetes or a history of smoking so I would advise you to continue / start taking statins which are cholesterol medications the dose of which depends upon your cholesterol levels also you need to start changing your dietary habits and include a regular physical exercise at least 45 minutes a day 5 days a week into your schedule nonetheless you have to stop taking fatty and junk food good luck

Hi, your triglycerides are a bit on higher side and HDL is on lower side. If you are over weight start exercising regularly (walking/workouts) and reduction in weight can help you. Include whole grain cereals, pulses, fruits and vegetables, skimmed milk and milk products, lean meat and skin out chicken in your diet. Your meal pattern should be of 6 meals where you will be having break fast, mid morning snack, lunch, evening snack, dinner and bed time snack. Avoid oily or fat foods, junk foods, butter, ghee, margarine, vanaspati, palm oil, red meat, organ meat. Include flaxseeds, oats, chia seeds almonds (5-6 in no.), green tea, fatty fish (tuna, trout, salmon, sardine), avocado (in limited portion), olive oil/canola oil/ rice bran oil.

Keep away from worries and tensions. Drink sufficient water, take meals on time every day. Take snacks frequently with dry fruits. Practice pranayama and yoga every day. Take badam rasayan 1-1-1 tsp with cup of milk.

Kindly got your Bp checked regularly, decrease Salt in your diet, go for regular walk for atleast 45 min. Even after all these lifestyle changes for 1 month BP stays high, kindly go to doctor and start medicine.

I have checked 2 times with a physician in last 1 month. Found out my BP on higher side 88-135. I exercise regularly. I also play football at competitive level. What can be the reasons of this and how to get it to normal. Also I do have slight head aches sometimes in the morning. And some breathing problem like in cold.

BP of 135/88 is still ok, what you need is salt reduction in your diet and exercise, since you r a sportsman you must be exercising regularly so now reduce the salt intake by reducing the intake of pickels, papads, cheese, butter,chips and wafers and all other foods that have high salt content. Also go for regular BP checkup’s.

Not possible if regular hypertensive because with this bp person is in icu for survival. Please speak with one week bp and lipid profile, ecg reports.
