Iamd 45 yrs/M, live in Bangalore, India, and I have severe sore throat for the past 3 months, My clinical parameters like CBC, Chest Xray, and other biochemical parameters are very normal, But the sore throat is coming and going for the past 3 months. There was severe nasal block a month back and now is ok. I am using Odanase spray, and taking medicines OD- Deriphyllin R300, Odimont, and cheston cold daily for the past 1 month. Still the sore throat and due to that dry cough is coming frequently and could not sleep. What could be the best treatment, as I have visited 3 Drs (DLOs) all gave same medicine or variants, but the problem is not solved. Any advice pls? Is it a serious illness.

I think main problem is in your nose. Infected secretion from nose goes to throat n it cause sore throat. You need to treat your nose only, throat will get relieved simultaneously. Take this medication. Tab cefixime 200 mg twice a day tab levocetrizine 5 mg once after dinner. Oxymetazoline nasal drop 2drop thrice a day in both nostril. Steam inhalation thrice a day. × 5 day. Stop previous medication. Review sos. Thanks.

If there is a history of nasal itching/ scratching by finger nail then no need to consult a doctor. Not a severe problem. Just avoid itching in nose by finger. Sometime we do not even remember that we scratched our nose but actually we did it. So the solution for this is to cut your nail regularly. Just see your fingernail if its raised then cut it first and after that nose bleed reoccur then consult your doctor. Thanks.

Nasal Obstruction And Blocked Ears - Know The Link!

ENT Specialist, Faridabad
Nasal Obstruction And Blocked Ears - Know The Link!

There is a strong connection between the ears, nose and throat, as any ENT or Ear Nose Throat specialist will be able to tell you. When there is any kind of congestion or obstruction in the nasal passages, one can also feel some effect in the ears with the symptoms going from mild to severe.

So how can nasal obstruction cause clogged ears? Here is our explanation!

-        The Connection: To begin with, let us understand the connection between the ears and the nose. There is an opening that can be found in the back of the nose, which leads into a tunnel called the Eustachian Tube. This tube goes into the ears and creates some amount of pressure when the nasal passages get blocked. This pressure can be felt as clogging of the ears and can usually be eradicated with the help of a pop in the ears. This pop can be brought about by pinching your nose and trying to breathe, or even yawning hard or indulging in some gulping or swallowing motion as well.

-        Mucosal Swelling: The swelling within the patient's nose usually points at the build up of mucus which can make the nasal lining thicker, thus making the act of breathing that much more laboured and difficult. This obstructs the nasal tract, in plain and simple terms. This swelling usually spreads to the tunnel or the Eustachian Tube, which can become swollen and even shut, consequently leading to a feeling of having clogged ears.

-       Negative Nasal Pressure: When the pressure inside the nose is built up in a negative way due to the obstruction that makes the patient breathe even harder, then the ears end up taking the pressure. This makes them clogged. This negative pressure usually manifests in the back of the nose where the Eustachian Tube is located, which creates a build up in the ears as well. This can also lead to a ringing pain when a patient tries to suck in air too hard due to the obstruction.

-       Bernoulli's Principle: If we are to incorporate air in place of fluid and liken the action of breathing with an obstructed nose, with the action of sucking fluid in through an obstructed straw, then the fluid dynamics would apply to this case. As per these fluid dynamics, more rapid flow of fluid can lead to decreased pressure on the surrounding areas. This can be applied to the blocked nose where air must pass through faster and with more fluidity so as to ensure that there is less pressure on the ears, which will keep them from getting clogged.

Persistent clogged ears and nasal congestion can also point towards an infection and should be checked by a doctor immediately.

Naak Ki Allergy Ka Gharelu Upchaar!

Naak Ki Allergy Ka Gharelu Upchaar!

Did You Know Ear Problems Can Cause Dizziness Too?

Did You Know Ear Problems Can Cause Dizziness Too?

The ear is typically associated with hearing. However, it plays a much larger role in our daily functioning. The ear also helps us maintain our balance. In fact, one of the most common causes of loss of balance or dizziness is a blocked ear canal.

Dizziness can range from a brief moment of imbalance and light-headedness to a severe spinning sensation. In severe cases, it can also result in a black-out. To maintain one’s balance, the input is needed from the eyes, inner ear and joints of the feet and legs. These impulses are processed by the brain which sends out signals to other limbs and organs on what needs to be done to maintain balance. A disturbance in any one of the three inputs can cause dizziness or a loss of balance.

Which part of the ear is responsible for dizziness?
The structure of the ear can be categorized into an external part and an internal part. The external part of the ear is responsible for receiving sounds, amplifying them and forwarding them to the inner ear. The inner ear is shaped like a snail. It has two interconnected parts. One part helps convert sounds into electrical signals that can be transported to the brain while the other helps maintain balance. This consists of three balance canals.

These canals move in a different direction depending on the movement of the head. This part of the inner ear also contains 2 small components with sensory cells covered in small calcium crystals. These compartments help sense linear movements such as rocking, bouncing or swaying movements. If the crystals covering these compartments are dislodged, the person may lose his or her balance. A tumour in the inner ear can also lead to a loss of balance.

Meniere’s syndrome
Meniere’s syndrome is a disorder related to the inner ear. This is a common cause of dizziness and vertigo. Meniere’s syndrome usually affects only one ear. This is marked by an abnormal collection of fluid in the inner ear. Blockages in the ear canal, an allergy, stress, fatigue or a trauma are some of the common reasons why this fluid may accumulate in the ear. Dizziness caused by this disease is usually noticed in the first and second stage of this condition. In such cases, dizziness may be accompanied by a loss of hearing, ringing sensation in the ears and pressure in the affected ear.
