The lifestyle we lead plays an important role. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important to overcome many diseases as it helps in bringing the blood pressure to normal and in turn reduce the risks of diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension. Factors like smoking, diet, stress and sedentary lifestyle can lead to hypertension and diabetes. Hypertension is known as silent killer as it is symptomless.

There are various traditional medicines known to lower the blood pressure. Also, there are certain herbs that help in controlling blood pressure and preventing other diseases.

Some of these herbs are:

  1. Basil: This herb has a strong aroma and can be used in the preparation of many foods. It also helps in lowering the blood pressure, though for a brief time. Adding freshly chopped or torn basil to soups, salads, pastas and casseroles not only enhance the taste but are also beneficial for health.
  2. Cinnamon: This herb requires some effort to add in the diet, but is helpful in maintain the blood pressure. Diabetic people should have cinnamon everyday in some or the other way. Cinnamon can be included by sprinkling over cereals, oats, coffee, stews and curries.
  3. Cardamom: Cardamom if consumed daily can be helpful in bringing down blood pressure and in turn controlling hypertension and diabetes. Cardamom is very popular in South Asia, the seeds can be powdered and used in stews, soups or baking. It not only has an enhanced flavor but is also packed with numerous health benefits.
  4. Flaxseed: This is very rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are believed to lower the blood pressure and also protect the body against atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. They are known for reducing cholesterol levels, and improving glucose tolerance thus acting as antioxidant. Flaxseeds can be added in smoothies and soups or baked goods.
  5. Garlic: Garlic often synonymous with bad breath and pungent seasoning has immense health benefits. It dilates and relaxes the blood vessels allowing the blood to flow freely and in turn reduces the blood pressure. 
  6. Ginger: Adding ginger to the diet helps to control the blood pressure. It relaxes the blood vessels and improves the circulation of the blood. Ginger can be used in sweets, savories and beverages and is very common in Asian food.
  7. Celery seed: This is a diuretic and in China it is used to treat hypertension. This can be used to flavor stews, soups, savory dishes and casseroles. Both the seeds and the plant have various benefits and uses of their own.
  8. Hawthorn: This herb is used to treat high blood pressure in China. Decoctions of the herb have health benefits such as reduction of blood pressure, controlling hypertension and blood circulation. Intercourse and Vaginal Bleeding - When is it Serious?

One of the common complaints associated with sexual intercourse, is vaginal bleeding. This bleeding can occur during the course of intimacy or after it. Post intercourse bleeding is also termed as post-coitus bleeding. This is known as post costal bleeding. Doctor should be consulted immediately as it may be a sign of hidden cervical cancer.

Reasons behind vaginal bleeding
1. In most cases, the bleeding is risk free. It could be due to extreme friction, causing damage to superficial blood vessels in the cervix. It is important to use adequate lubrication; otherwise the consequences could be annoyingly painful.
2. If your period dates are nearby, the source of the blood could be from your uterus.
3. Benign growths, cysts, polyps on the cervix can cause bleeding. They are small fragile growths that rupture easily.
4. There can also be bleeding due to inflammations that occur as a reaction to a condom or a diaphragm.

When can vaginal bleeding be difficult?

  1. Vaginal bleeding after sex can often be a warning sign of ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy is when implantation of an embryo takes place outside the uterus, commonly inside the fallopian tubes.
  2. Bleeding every time after intercourse is also a common symptom of endometriosis. It occurs when the inner lining of the uterus, called the endometrial tissue, appears outside it. Endometrial tissue can attach itself to other surrounding organs in the pelvic region, generally, the abdomen, causing searing pain. It is also a major cause of infertility.
  3. Another cause of vaginal bleeding is atrophic vaginitis, a health condition mostly affecting older women, especially those who have reached menopausal age. This is due to the massive decline in the levels of estrogen that causes vaginal dryness and irritation.
  4. Sexually transmitted diseases could be a serious cause of vaginal bleeding. It is generally accompanied by several other symptoms such as vaginal odour, discharge, pelvic pain, inflammations. It should receive immediate medical attention.
  5. Vaginal bleeding could be a sign of cancer. It could be vaginal, ovarian, uterine or cervical cancer. It requires medical attention without any delay.

Most of the time, the reasons for post coitus bleeding is harmless. However, if it persists, you must pay a visit to your gynaecologist as soon as possible and get a thorough evaluation done. This could save the condition from worsening and also diagnose any other underlying medical condition at an early, curable stage.

Why do feet stink?

Smelly feet can be a cause of great embarrassment and discomfort for anyone. Also known as bromodosis, the primary cause of smelly feet is the sweat glands in your feet. This part of the human body has more sweat glands than anywhere else in the body. Additionally, compared to sweat glands in the other parts of the body that secrete to control your body temperature when exposed to hot weather or while exercising, the sweat glands in your feet produce perspiration all the time.

When this happens, bacteria living on your skin break down the perspiration that oozes from your skin pores and a cheese-like smell is produced as the sweat gets broken down by the bacteria.

Apart from the explanation of the origin of this kind of smell, the causes that lead to you having smelly feet are:

- Wearing the same footwear on a daily basis and not letting them dry

- Poor hygiene habits like not washing your feet and drying them thoroughly

- Changes in the body's hormones level especially during pregnancy and puberty

- Too much stress

- Hyperhidrosis (a condition wherein you sweat excessively)

Understanding Anxiety:

A vague unpleasant emotion that a person experiences in anticipation of some misfortune that might take place.
Anxiety is normal and adaptive state as it helps us prepare for danger.

Therefore, we must learn to manage anxiety. It can be problematic when we feel such in spite when there is no real danger.

Panic attacks are the body’s response to defend itself (for instance, our heart beats faster to pump blood to our muscles so we have the energy to run away or fight off danger).

Anxiety attacks are harmless, although you feel very uncomfortable and or scary. You might feel like you are dying or going crazy, but you are not. And these feelings are similar in your body if you were facing a real physical threat.

  2. Relaxing your body- Learn to set your body tense free – this can be done by tensing your muscles and then relaxing – this lowers overall tension and stress levels during a panic attack.

  • Positive Thinking - First identify what afraid you – note them down for instance “It will hurt me , I will die, It might remain long and forever etc., Pen them down and practice to overcome that situation.

  • Avoid overestimating about the things that may occur to you.

  • Facing the challenge – Most important step of managing anxiety is to face what fears you the most like unpleasant bodily sensation associated with attacks, avoiding situations, places, activities and so on.

  • In order to overcome these sensation and individual needs to repeatedly bring on the sensation that fears them so that over time those sensations have no longer effects to anxious.

Learning to manage anxiety requires Practise and bravery and is much like an exercise. Don't be discouraged when you start with it, as coping with anxiety is a lifelong process.

Dear lybrate-user, if your hair fall is leading to bald patches it could be alopecia areata or cicatricial alopecias or patterned hair loss. For weight gain proper nutrition is a must. 1) U can start including more milk, cow ghee, fruits & vegetables in your diet. 2) Stop eating junk & processed food. 3) Make a habit of consuming one well ripen banana with a cup of warm milk with a tsp of ghee . 4) Eat soaked dry grapes or dates soaked in warm milk over night. 5) Boost up your apettite by working out daily for atleast 30 mins.6) Massaging whole body with vata balancing herbal oil (ksheerabala oil) is very beneficial 7) Reducing stress level, sleeping comfortably for long hours and afternoon naps are very essential to increase body mass.

Every time my date use to come 6 days early n I use to get so much pain in stomach n full body and my urine is to pass less in periods time but this time it's came 2 days before and I'm not getting any pain in body n stomach. Mr. lybrate-user, For frequent urination there are many reasons like urinary tract infection which also leads to burning sensation while urinating. If undetected diabetes is there that also can lead to excess urination. It is better if you get your urine examined to see if there is any infection also get blood glucose fasting and after food checked. Thanks.
