Renal Biopsy - When Should You Go For It?

Renal Biopsy - When Should You Go For It?

Kidneys play an important metabolic role and are essential for balancing salt, minerals and water in the body. They also play a significant role in removing waste products from the body. They make urine, which contains all the waste materials that are eliminated from the body. They also play an important role in blood pressure regulation and in maintaining the balance of various minerals in the body. Any suspected kidney damage should be confirmed by a kidney biopsy, which will reveal the exact disease, thereby directing towards the appropriate treatment.

Why and when is it done?

A renal or kidney biopsy is done in the following situations:

  1. When there is abnormal protein in the blood or urine, which is indicative of a kidney disease, and the exact cause needs to be found out
  2. When kidney failure is suggested by blood tests but cause is not clear
  3. To find the cause of bleeding in the urine (haematuria)
  4. To identify and/or confirm diagnosis after a CT scan or ultrasound
  5. To check how well a transplanted kidney has been received

Know about the procedure

A renal biopsy is mostly done as an outpatient procedure and is a type of biopsy known as percutaneous biopsy (biopsy where a needle is inserted through the skin into the renal tissue). Very rarely, it may be combined with the CT scan or ultrasound and be done in the radiology department. This may be done on inpatients. The patient is made to lie on his/her back and a local anesthetic is used on the area of the injection. A thin, long needle is directed towards the area of the kidney from where some kidney tissue is removed for sampling.

In some cases, the direction of the needle may be decided by a CT scan or ultrasound. While this is a closed biopsy procedure, in some cases, as a part of the surgery, open biopsies may also be obtained, where a sample of tissue is extracted for analysis.

Recovering from a biopsy
The person would need some time to recover from the procedure, as there would be some discomfort at the site of a needle insertion. Vital signs would be monitored for the next couple of hours during which the person would also be monitored for internal bleeding. A pain reliever can be used if required. Haematuria or blood-tinged urine can be seen disappearing within the next 12 hours. Very rarely the bleeding can be severe and require angiography and further procedures. The person should also avoid strenuous activities for the next few days.

Simple Knee ExerciesSpecific knee exercises will also help ie. Keeping ball underneath the knee and keep pressing it. That's the simple exercise which will help you to strengthen the knee Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. I also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. Knee pain more than 2 weeks:if your knee is paining since 2 weeks, then you have to rethink whether you had any injury in the previous years. I also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. As arthritis is very common if anyone would've neglected any injury in the previous years. You can take Ultrasonic therapy in one of the nearby physiotherapy clinics which would help to heal the damaged cartilages along with shortwave diathermy which would help to improve the blood circulation. Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation.

Leg PainIf you have leg pain then you have to rule out the casues for having leg pain. First of all check your weight and your haemoglobin levels, as Anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having leg pain though there are no issues with the knee joint or back pain. If not if the pain radiates down the back of thigh and legs then it might be due to sciatica. Kindly consult the nearby physiotherapist. Hope you recover soon from the leg pain. Pain in the back while walking and standing Pain in the right legIf you have leg pain please check your body weight and your hemoglobin levels, as Anemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having leg pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain. My suggestion would be to wear MCR Chapels which will help you to prevent the weight falling on the If you have back pain while walking and standing first of all check your weight and your hemoglobin levels, as Anemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having back pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain. And also should check whether you have flat foot on the right leg that also might be the reason to have pain in one particular leg Pain in the left side of the leg/thighThe compression of the sciatic nerve should be around the right side that's the reason you have pain in the left side. That's the reason you cannot sit or stand and it is exactly around the L5 vertebrae where the sciatic nerve passes by.

If your pain is more in the distal joints, ie. In the upper limbs if the pain is present in the fingers/wrist and in the lower limbs it the pain is present in the toes/ ankle, then we shall definitely say it is Rheumatic arthritis. Wear elbow brace and wrist brace which will make her to feel warm and that will make the joints become firm. Hot water fermentation will help Knee cap will also help to prevent the damaged cartilages. If your pain is more in the distal joints, ie. In the upper limbs if the pain is present in the fingers/wrist and in the lower limbs it the pain is present in the toes/ ankle, then we shall definitely say it is Rheumatic arthritis. Which joints you have pain? If your proximal joints (ie. Shoulder, hip & knee has pain) then you can pour hot (warm) water in that area to reduce the inflammation. If you have pain in the distal joints ie. Wrist, fingers, ankle, toes then you can wear either elbow brace or wrist brace which will help you to feel warm and very protective. And also immerse the distal joints in the hot water tub which will help you to reduce the pain. Consult the near by physiotherapy clinic and also consult a general physician to check with your ESR levels to check whether you have inflammation.

Bad Immune System - How It Accelerates Rheumatoid Arthritis?

MBBS, Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho), DNB - Orthopedics, Mch

Bad Immune System - How It Accelerates Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory disease, which destroys the cartilages of the body, thereby rendering a weak joint structure throughout the body. This causes the bone density to reduce, which in turn reduces the original strength of the bones. This is usually manifested in people – men and women both - from their late middle ages. Terrible pain is sometimes accompanied with such form of arthritis. Though arthritis can be treated, this treatment is only provided to boost bone density, make the bones stronger, provide vitamins and minerals to the body and slow the process of bone degeneration. Once arthritis affects you, you can never be completely cured of it, but you can definitely try to lessen the degradation rate and frequency.

Immune system:
There are several factors, which lead to the development of rheumatoid arthritis in a human body. One such factor is the immune system. Over the years, the immune system becomes weaker. The body is attacked by many infections, bacteria and other foreign particles, which the immune system fights effectively. But as one starts growing and reaches almost middle age, it is found that the immune system no longer remains as vigilant and quick to be able to cope up with the disease causing germs, and fight them effectively. A reduced immune system can be caused by consumption of excessive medicines, vaccines and other medicinal drugs over the years. This makes it difficult for the immune system to cope with arthritis at this age. Hence, the development of rheumatoid arthritis is very much related to a weak immune system in the body.

Treatment:
However, this does not mean that it cannot be treated. There are various natural and organic ways to boost your immunity. You must try to follow some of them so that your immune system becomes stronger and better or at least shows signs of improvement. That apart, you need to consult your medical practitioner when signs of arthritis are manifested by your body. There are simple exercises, natural methods to keep fit and certain other medicines, which need to be consumed to make your bones stronger. If you follow these rules then your arthritis would not be very fatal and you will be able to cope with it.

This highlights how the immune system is an integral part in the formation of arthritis in a human body. If you see signs and symptoms of arthritis developing in your body, then you must consult the medical practitioner immediately so that you can start with an appropriate treatment as soon as possible. Arthritis should never be neglected as it can give rise to chronic pains and adverse health problems in the future.
