I am 27 years old with no medical history and normal t3 and t4 levels but my tsh is 12.5.since I am suffering from hypothyroidism can you suggest me a levothyroxine tablet and it's dose. I would be grateful.
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query You should start with a dose of 75 mcg daily, to begin with. Then check TSH again after 6 weeks, if the level remains high (above 3 mU/L) then there has to be further increase in the dose. You will have to check TSH every 6 to 8 weeks till the levels are stabilsed to about 2 to 3 mU/L. Thanks.

My husband's Thyroid test report is T3 -79.79, T4 - 3.51, TSH - 6.911 and ATG - Above 1000. The physician has prescribed Thyronorm 25 mg daily. Suggest if the line of treatment is correct and what precautions can be taken.
Hello, Thanks for the query. The line of treatment is correct. You will have to check TSH after 6 to 8 weeks to see if the dosage is enough. Thanks.

I was suffering from hypothyroidism since last 9 months but this tym my report has come normal so should I continue taking medicine? I am also overweight I do exercise but m getting zero result what should I do as due to this I have severe ankle pain.
Your thyroid results normal because you are taking thyroid hormone if you stop taking your medicine your results will be more or less same as before. Hence please continue your medicines and get your TSH testing regularly. To reduce weight diet control you also necessary along with exercise. Your diet should be low calorie, low fat and high fibre. You should take a lot of vegetables and salad in your diet.

Mr. lybrate-user. Gone through your problem some times this feeling remains in some cases due to cutting and some involvement of nerve but mostly it resolves in few months. I hope you should be alright get other test done Like D3 &B12 and consult a physician also for other possibilities.

I am 27 years old with normal t3 and t4 but tsh is 13. I am gaining some weight for some time now. I know I am suffering from hypothyroidism. I have no medical history and I don't take any medicine. Sometimes I have high BP and since childhood I have joint pain. I have decided to go for morning walks and healthy food habits. Will it work or I need medicine for hypothyroidism. Are my tsh levels serious at this age?
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. It is good to know that you are aware of having hypothyroidism. This a hormone (Thyroxine) deficiency disease, hence there is a need for supplementation of that hormone on daily basis for lifetime. Adapting a modified lifestyle with regular exercise and proper die etc, is good but that will not "cure" hypothyroidism or even prevent t. There is no option but take levothyroxine tablets in a specified dose daily for lifetime. Otherwise all the problems associated with hypothyroidism will be troubling for the whole life. These include weight gain, swelling of face, lower limbs, sluggish heart rate, tiredness, fatigue, dry skin & hair, hair fall, muscle and joint pains, intolerance to cold, anxiety, difficulty in speech and in concentration and many more. So my suggestion is please initiate the treatment right away. Thanks.

Hello Dr. .mujhe thyriod h tsh 5.8 hai weight 67 hai .aur ovary me toda swelling hai .mai last 4 month se baby plan kar rahi hu .but nai ho pa rah h .mai thyriod k liye 25 mg ki medicine le rahi hu .mujhe period regular aate h .dr ne harmony F medicine lene ko kaha h .dr kya meri problm bahut badi h jisse mujhe baby concieve nai ho payega.
Thanks for the query. It is good to know that you are looking for a baby. For that please understand that it is absolutely essential to achieve a very good control of hypothyroidism. Your TSh should be maintained around 2 mU/L, for conception to occur and even during the pregnancy too TSH has to be maintained around that, for proper development of the fetus and healthy expected out come of the pregnancy. So you will have to increase the dose of thyroxine to 50 mcg, then check TSH after 6 weeks. If it has come down o the level mentioned above, then it is good. If not there has to be a further increase in the dose. Simultaneously you need to exercise and take a restricted diet, so that you are able to loos at least 5 to 7 kgs of weight, before conception sets in. If you have any doubts please do come back. Thanks.

I have hashimoto thyroiditis. Total thyroidectomy 3 years ago. My tsh is 180 and stays that level. Feel awful and er does not seem to care. Im on synthroid 200 mcg. Is something I should be worried about?
Usual requirent of thyroid hormone is less than 200 micrograms for hypothyroid. And it seldom requires 300 micrograms or more, and in that situation one should look for malabsorption, drug interaction or poor compliane as the cause. Please consult an Endocrinologist.

You have not mentioned whether yoiu are having hypo or hyperthyroidism. Hypothyroidism is treated with thyroid hormone ,dose of whih is guided by TSH level in blood indefinitly. Hyperthyroidis is treated with antithyroid mediines or surgery or radioactive iodine and you have to be under supervision of a physician.

Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland is under active and does not produce sufficient amounts of thyroid hormones required in the body. The most cause of hypothyroidism is Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is an auto immune disorder in which the antibodies are produced by the immune system against its own tissue, which in turn attacks the thyroid gland resulting in hypothyroidism.Severe Iodine defficiency can also lead to hypothyroidism . Natural Homeopathic remedies for hypothyroidism are highly effective and especially useful for people who want to avoid the side effects of prescription drugs. Top Homeopathic Remedies for Hypothyroidism Calcarea carb , Sepia ,Lycopodium, Graphites and Nux Vomica are the leading homeopathic remedies for hypothyroidism The normal range of TSH levels is 0.4 to 4.0 milli-international units per liter. Some common issues include high blood sugar, High blood cholesterol and infertility. Rarely, Thyroid problem may be due to "Hyperthyroidism" (Increased thyroid hormone levels). Sir I'm 34 years male. My recent Thyroid test shows TSH 7.55, T3-100, T4-9.1. Plus I have hair loss issue, no other major health issues like fatigue etc. Do I need to start thyroxine tablets now? I'm a bit worried as I've heard that this medicine need to be taken life long.
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. TSH 7.55 mU/L, is considered as sub-clinical hypothyroidism. Usually it is not requiring any treatment. However, if a person has any troublesome symptoms related to hypothyroidism, then treatment is given. As regards taking the tablet for life time, if a person develops hypothyroidism, which means deficiency of the essential hormone thyroxine, which is needed for day to day functioning of almost all the metabolic functions of the body, so it has to be supplemented for the life. There is no option. Thanks.

Hello doctor last 2 month pehle mera thyroid badh gaya tha aur TSH level 15 tak badh gaya tha to doctor ne meri dose 150 mcg kar di thi. But now ab mera TSH level 0.27 h to ab mujhe kitni mcg tablet khani chaihiye.
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. With TSH at 0.27 mU/L you have achieved a good control. With this I am sure there are no symptoms of hypothyroidism. Then it is better to continue the same dose. You may check TSH after another 8 weeks, if then it goes further down, then you may reduce the dose in consultation with your doctor. Because frequent changes will not help. Thanks.

Thyroid function profile (free) Free T3: 2.95 pg/ml Free T4: 1.42 ng/dl TSH :0.035 uIU/mi Taking Thyronorm 75 mcg before the above Lab Test. Suggest me medication.
Mr. lybrate-user Thanks for the query. With TSH 0.035 mU/L, are you having any symptoms suggestive of hyperthyroidism? It appears the of 75 mcg per day is a bit high. It will have to be reduced by 12.5 mcg per day. Then taking that dose for over 8 weeks please do check TSH level again. To see if the dose is good enough. Thanks.

Mere thyroid ki problem h.aur weight badh rha h pichhle kuch time SE anxiety disorder h.mujhe jldi weight loss ke liye kya krna chahiye. please tell me.
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. It is absolutely necessary to control hypothyroidism very effectively to succeed in your efforts to loose weight. For that TSH should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L. So first check TSH levels, then if needed increase the dose of thyroxine to bring TSH to desired level. Plus you will have to take a restricted diet and exercise daily for over 1 hour. Better if you join a gym. Thanks.

Hi, I'm suffering from hypothyroidism, on medication for the past 05 years (eltroxin 100 mcg). My problem is pre mature ejaculation, is this condition is directly related to hypothyroidism? I could last for only one or two minutes. Please suggest a solution. I used to masturbate a lot since I'm 14 (3-5 times a day ), that too in a vigorous fashion.

Starting thyroxine is not going to help you loose much weight. Repeat TSH after 3 months. Get your fasting blood glucose hba1c lipid profile blood pressure checked. Exercise daily for 1 hour. Follow healthy eating habits.
