आयुर्वेद औषधियों में छोटी पीपल को ही आम तौर पर पिप्पली के नाम से भी जाना जाता है. छोटी पीपल के औषधीय गुणों के अनुसार इसके बहुत सारे फायदे हैं. यही नहीं इसका इस्तेमाल कई बार मसाले के रूप में भी किया जाता रहा है. यदि इसके आकार की बात करें तो यह लगभग शहतूत के फल के आकार वाले छोटी पीपल के जैसा ही है. गहरे हरे रंग और ह्रदय के आकार वाले चौड़े पत्तों व कोमल लताओं वाले छोटी पीपल के कच्चे फलों का रंग गहरा हरा और पकने के बाद काला हो जाता है. आइए इस लेख के माध्यम से हम छोटी पीपल के फायदों पर एक नजर डालें.

1. मोटापा से भी राहत

छोटी पीपल मोटापे को कम करने में बहुत सहायक है. इसके लिए आपको पीपल के चूर्ण का लगभग आधा ग्राम की मात्रा रोजाना सुबह-शाम शहद के साथ सेवन करना होता है. इसके अलावा छोटी पीपल के 1 से 2 दाने दूध में डाल कर उबालें और उसमें से छोटी पीपल को निकालकर खा लें. इसके दूध पिने से भी मोटापे कम होती है.

2. छुआ-छूत के रोगों में
इसमें पाए जाने वाले प्रतिरोधक क्षमता बढ़ाने के गुण से टी.बी. एवं अन्य संक्रामक रोगों में छोटी पीपल फायदेमंद है. इसके अलावा छोटी पीपल अनेक आयुर्वेदीय एंव आधुनिक दवाओं की कार्यक्षमता को बढ़ाने में मदद करती है. छोटी पीपल के कई फायदों में से एक ये भी है कि इसके 1-2 ग्राम चूर्ण में सेंधानमक, हल्दी और सरसों का तेल मिलाकर दांतों पर लगाने से दांत के दर्द से राहत मिलती है.

3. दिल के मामलों में
दिल की बीमारियों में भी छोटी पीपल के फायदे दिखाते हैं. इसका चूर्ण बनाकर शहद में मिलाकर सुबह खाने से कोलेस्ट्राल नियंत्रित होता है. इसके अलावा छोटी पीपल और छोटी हरड़ की समान मात्रा पीसकर एक चम्मच सुबह-शाम गुनगुने पानी के साथ लेने से पेट दर्द, मरोड़ और दुर्गन्धयुक्त अतिसार में राहत मिलती है.

4. साँसों की बीमारी में
यदि आपको साँसों की बिमारी है तो इसमें भी आप छोटी पीपल के फायदे से राहत पा सकते हैं. इसके लिए आपको 2 ग्राम छोटी पीपल का चूर्ण बनाकर 4 कप पानी में उबाल लें. जब यह 2 कप रह जाए तो इसे छान लें. इसे 2-3 घंटे के अंतर पर थोड़ा-थोड़ा दिन भर पीते रहने से कुछ ही दिनों में सांस फूलने की समस्या से राहत मिलेगी.

5. सिर दर्द में
इसे पानी में पीसकर माथे पर लेप लगाने से सिर दर्द में फायदा मिलता है. इसके लिए छोटी पीपल और वच चूर्ण को बराबर मात्रा में मिला लें. फिर इसकी 3 ग्राम नियमित रूप से दो बार दूध या गर्म पानी के साथ लेने से सर दर्द में राहत मिलती है. इस प्रकार आप चाहें तो सरदर्द में इसका इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं.

6. वात से उत्पन्न रोगों में
इसके लिए आपको 5-6 पुरानी छोटी पीपल के पौधे का जड़ सुखाकर उसका चूर्ण बनाना होगा. आपको बता दें कि इस चूर्ण की 1-3 ग्राम मात्रा को गर्म पानी या गर्म दूध के साथ पिलाने से शरीर के किसी भी हिस्से में होने वाले दर्द से 1-2 घंटे में ही राहत मिल जाती है. बुढ़ापे में इससे विशेष रूप से राहत मिलती है.

7. सर्दी जुकाम में
सर्दी जुकाम में छोटी पीपल का फायदा उठाने के लिए इसका मूल, काली मिर्च और सौंठ की बराबर मात्रा में चूर्ण लेकर इसकी 2 ग्राम की मात्रा शहद के साथ चाटने से जुकाम में राहत मिलती है. इसके अलावा आधा चम्मच छोटी पीपल चूर्ण में समान मात्रा में भुना जीरा तथा थोड़ा सा सेंधा नमक मिलाकर छाछ के साथ सुबह खाली पेट लेने से बवासीर में भी लाभ होता है.

What is Depression?

While we all feel sad, moody or low from time to time, some people experience these feelings intensely, for long periods of time (weeks, months or even years) and sometimes without any apparent reason. Depression is more than just a low mood – it's a serious condition that affects your physical and mental health.

Types:

-Unipolar and bipolar depression:
If the predominant feature is a depressed mood, it is called unipolar depression. However, if it is characterized by both manic and depressive episodes separated by periods of normal mood, it is referred to as bipolar disorder (previously called manic depression).

Unipolar depression can involve anxiety and other symptoms - but no manic episodes. However, research shows that for around 40 percent of the time, individuals with bipolar disorder are depressed, making the two conditions difficult to distinguish.

-Major depressive disorder with psychotic features:
This condition is characterized by depression accompanied by psychosis. Psychosis can involve delusions - false beliefs and detachment from reality, or hallucinations - sensing things that do not exist.

-Postpartum depression:
Women often experience "baby blues" with a newborn, but postpartum depression - also known as postnatal depression - is more severe.

-Major depressive disorder with seasonal pattern:
Previously called seasonal affective disorder (SAD), this condition is related to the reduced daylight of winter - the depression occurs during this season but lifts for the rest of the year and in response to light therapy.

Causes:

The causes of depression are not fully understood and may not be down to a single source. Depression is likely to be due to a complex combination of factors that include:

-depressed woman
-Depression has a wide range of causes and potential treatments.
-genetics
-biological - changes in neurotransmitter levels
-environmental
-psychological and social (psychosocial)

Some people are at higher risk of depression than others; risk factors include:

-Life events: These include bereavement, divorce, work issues, relationships with friends and family, financial problems, medical concerns, or acute stress.
-Personality: Those with less successful coping strategies or previous life trauma are more susceptible.
-Genetic factors: Having a first-degree relative with depression increases the risk.
-Childhood trauma.
-Some prescription drugs: These include corticosteroids, some beta-blockers, interferon, and other prescription drugs.
-Abuse of recreational drugs: Abuse of alcohol, amphetamines, and other drugs are strongly linked to depression.
-A past head injury.
-Having had one episode of major depression: This increases the risk of a subsequent one.
-Chronic pain syndromes: These and other chronic conditions, such as diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and cardiovascular disease make depression more likely.

Symptoms:

-Depressed mood
-reduced interest or pleasure in activities previously enjoyed, loss of sexual desire
-unintentional weight loss (without dieting) or low appetite
-insomnia (difficulty sleeping) or hypersomnia (excessive sleeping)
-psychomotor agitation, for example, restlessness, pacing up and down
-delayed psychomotor skills, for example, slowed movement and speech
-fatigue or loss of energy
-feelings of worthlessness or guilt
-impaired ability to think, concentrate, or make decisions
-recurrent thoughts of death or suicide, or attempt at suicide

Diagnosis:

We've become accustomed to doctors using specialized blood tests or other extensive laboratory tests to help them make a conclusive diagnosis. However, most laboratory tests are not very helpful when it comes to diagnosing depression. In fact, talking with the patient may be the most important diagnostic tool the doctor has. The recommendation is that doctors routinely screen all individuals for depression. This screening might occur during a visit for a chronic illness, at an annual wellness visit, or during pregnancy or postpartum visit.

Role of Homeopathy in Depression:

Homeopathy is a natural and non-toxic remedy for several diseases. The major advantage of homeopathy over other medication is that it does not cause any adverse side effect. Sweda Vidhi (Sudation)    

Inrroduction:-

  • Sweda means sweat which is the mala  through which pitta is eliminated. The therapies which help in producing perspiration are called swedana. 
  • In Swedana, certain procedures are done to dilate the srotas and to make the body sweat.   This is done after sneha therapy. Swedana works in conjunction with sneha to facilitate   the removal of ama and mala from the srotas and dhatus and to transport them back to  the kostha (Gastrointestinai tract). 
  • It can be done in specific parts or all over the body
  • It is mainly indicated for kapha and vata diseases.

A. Types of swedana 
It is classifted into 4 main types
I.Tapa sweda:-

Sweating using hot sand.Used in Ama vata (acute rheumatic conditions)

 2. Upanaha sweda - Poultices  
Powders of herbs and food grains are mixed with vinegar, oil and a little salt .warmed, applied on specific parts which are then covered by leaves and cloth tightly.It is done in night and removed in the morning 

3. Drava sweda  Fomentation with warm liquids 
A.Pariseka - Dhara (pouring warm liquids). E.g. Decoctions of anti vata herbs are used in Ama vata     
B.Avagaha - Tub bath

4. Usma sweda 
a. Pinda sweda (fomentation using bolus) 
b.Nadi sweda (fomentation using tube)
c.Kuti sweda (sweat house)

Signs of proper swedana

  • Disappcarance of cold and pain  
  • Softness, alertness, free movements of joints, normal skin, normal appetite etc. 
  • If done in excess. pitta and rakta will be vitiated. 
  • Thirst,giddiness,pain, rashes can manifest.
