Can anyone suggest a daily diet routine (veg-non veg both) which I can follow in order to gain weight. I am very skinny weighting around 52 kgs and height around 160-165 cms. Currently I have 3 chappites with vegetable 3 times a day, with salads sometimes. Non veg once in a month, eggs sometimes, usually I skip breakfast as I wake up a bit late. Any scope of improvement in my diet?(a diet plan).

Hi. Thanks for the query. For a detailed personalised diet chart you will need to take consultation also understand that weight gain is very dependent on genetics and metabolism along with your daily diet and exercise routine. It is important to know that just eating just two heavy meals a day will not help. Weight gain is all about taking more calories than you burn. Eating the right foods at the right time is very important. There is no one food that helps weight gain. Eat meals at frequent intervals. You need to eat at least 6 main and mid meals a day. Eat a mid meal between each main meal. Avoid junk foods. Include dairy, eggs, nuts, fruits, dry fruits, starchy vegetables, rice, bread, whole grain cereals, smoothies, masala milk, ghee, cream in your meals. Just eating sugary, sweet foods is not good. Try to have healthy deserts like kheer, chikki or lassi. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Exercise at least thrice a week. It helps development of muscle mass and improves appetite. Even if you were to take just medicines or supplements they will not work in isolation. You need to have a calorie and nutrient dense meal and good exercise routine, it's crucial.

Causes And Treatment Of Heel Pain!

Causes And Treatment Of Heel Pain!

Heel pain is a common problem in the body where the affected person experiences pain radiating from the heel bone. Heel pain usually progresses slowly over time, it is recommended to consult a medical professional, if heel pain turns severe. The pain tends to most severe after one has been inactive for some time such as after waking up in the morning.

Causes
Heel pain is usually caused when tissues present in the bottom of the heel (Plantar fascia) is damaged. These tissues connect the heel bone with the bones of the feet and help in absorbing shocks. Tears are formed in these tissues when they are damaged or when they get thicker. These tissues are at an increased risk of wear and tear for those who are over 45 years old. The risks also tend to increase if the person is obese or whose occupation requires standing for lengthy periods of time.
Among other causes of heel pain are heel bone fractures, fat pad atrophy (a condition where a layer of fat present under the heel bone is reduced) and bursitis (inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs present around the joints). Peripheral neuropathy is a condition where damage occurs in the peripheral nerves (that transmits signals between the central nervous system and the rest of the body), this can cause pain in the heel.

Symptoms
The symptoms of heel pain include:

  1. Experiencing pain while jogging or walking
  2. A feeling of pins pricking the heels after waking up in the morning
  3. Inability to bend the heel
  4. Painful swelling
  5. Pain in the heel accompanied by fever

Prevention and treatment
Heel pain can be prevented by taking certain preventive measures such as restricting usage of high heeled shoes without proper support and stretching the heel regularly. Medications such as painkillers are used to treat symptoms of heel pain. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a physiotherapist.

I'm hitting gym 5 times in a week. And Im not taking whey protein can I take bcaa and glutamine for recovery. Will it sufficent?

M.Phil biotech and PGD Dietitics
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Panchkula
Whey protein is taken post workout. It already has important amino acids like glutamine which is very helpful. It should be had within 40 minutes of your workout to prevent wear and tear of muscles. Since this window is called the protein window. BCAA are specific 3 amino acids. Whey is complete in itself.

Hi I am 24 years male and I want to increase my weight so I want to know which one weight gainer will help me to do so as soon as possible?

B.Sc.- Food & Nutrition, M.Sc- Food Science & Nutrition, NET (LS)
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Kolkata
Weight gain through diet & strength exercises is healthy way. Supplements are expensive & have adverse health effects over a speed of time. Have buffalo or cow milk. (Hot/ cold) with milk powder. For weight gain in a healthy way, 1. Have 3 litres water daily. 2. Have frequent meals comprising foods high in nutrient & energy density but low in volume. Ex: fruit & almonds milkshake, fruit juice, sugarcane juice, cheese potato chicken sandwich, egg curry, rice/ atta maida roti with ghee, til chikki, dry fruits, premix, malt, soybean cutlets, fish fingers, stuffed parathas, banana, dates, mango. 3. Avoid water with or just before meals 4. Have 15 mins light walk before main meals to enhance appetite. Consider getting a thyroid test done to rule out hyperthyroidism.

I am 18 years old. My bones are thin and weak. I want to increase my strength and strengthen my muscles. I want to increase my weight also. What should I do.

BHMS
Homeopath, Secunderabad
The importance of daily exercise should not be forgotten. Real strength and stamina comes only after you follow a disciplined lifestyle. So eat healthy homemade food with lots of fruits and vegetables everyday. Let your body take its own time to gain weight since you are still young. Do not take any supplements. Avoid all bad habits, junk food and cold-drinks. Nuts and seeds and all other types of naturally available products are safe and good. You can also play your favourite game /sport. Learn yoga as it can help in improving the overall wellbeing and improves the immunity.
