Loosening of implants might be caused by excessive body weight, rigorous physical activity, and wearing of the plastic liner inserted between metal cup and ball. If there is a bacterial infection in the Total Hip Replacement, Revision Surgery is employed. This is so because antibiotics cannot alone eliminate bacteria from joints. When there is a recurrent hip location in the ball and socket joint, Revision Surgery is opted to properly align the joint and to insert the implant.

In case of a periprosthetic fracture (when bone around the implant breaks), Revision Surgery is required.

When metal used in implant breaks or degrades, it may cause damage to soft surrounding tissue and bone. This would require a corrective Revision Surgery.

Preparation for the Surgery:

The patient undergoes a thorough physical examination. It is to ensure that undergoing surgery would not be harmful in any possible way. X-Rays, MRIs, and CT scans are employed to fully understand the structure of the joint. Laboratory tests are conducted to ascertain the fitness of the patient to undergo the procedure. It should be noted that post- surgery, the patient is not able to function at all and requires help even to perform petty tasks for himself. This position should be maintained for 4-5 seconds.
Strengthening the hips: The body should rest on the stomach. The buttocks should be tightened and one leg should be slowly lifted. This position should be maintained for a stretch of 3-5 seconds. The same should be repeated for both the legs.
Strengthening the hip and the stomach muscle: The body should rest on the back with a leg bent. The stomach muscle should be tightened and the bent leg should be lifted carefully while ensuring that the bend does not supersede more than 90 degrees. While keeping the stomach muscle tight, the lifted leg should slowly come down to touch the surface. This act should be repeated for 5-6 times.
Strengthening the thigh muscle: While sitting in a steady chair, an elastic loop should be wrapped around the ankles. The elastic loop should be stretched with one leg while keeping the other foot firmly rooted to the ground. The lifted foot should slowly come down to the normal position. The same act should be repeated for 4-5 times.
Improving balance: An elastic loop should be tied to one leg of a table and the other end of the loop should be tied to one ankle. The table should be held on for maintaining balance. Maintaining an erect position, the tied up ankle should be stretched sideways. The position should be maintained for 3-5 seconds to return back to normal standing position.

You are likely to feel terrific sensations down your lower back, but it is advised to bear through it as it allows the flow of blood to that region which is required for healing. Practice the position regularly and hold it for at least one minute.
Thread the needle: This is quite an easier pose where you will have to lie flat on your back by bending both the knees with your feet flat on the ground. You will now have to bend the right knee by placing the outer left ankle through the right thigh. You will have to thread the right hand between the leg and interlace the hands behind the left thigh.
