Don’t eat by surgical area for 1 week. Soft food will be necessary for the 1st few days.

I have swelling in my lip. Its been there over a month. Also Dr. said its because of Slavia. What should I do?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
It must be mucocele, which can occur due to trauma to the minor salivary glands on the lip. Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need surgical removal. You may consult me in person. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush.

Prevent Dental Stains Without Chemicals

Do you wish your teeth were whiter? Some people have off-white teeth naturally, probably through their genetic inheritance. Others get stained teeth over time for a variety of reasons. If you would like to brighten your smile but don't want to put the time or money into commercially whitening them, here are a few suggestions for doing it on your own.

1. Limit your consumption of tea, which contains tannic acid. This substance can darken teeth gradually over time, as evidenced by the stains left in teacups used for serving this beverage. You also may want to cut back on cola products, which has a similar but lesser effect. Any foods with deep colors, like blueberries, can leave stains on your tooth enamel. So be sure to brush your teeth after eating foods like these.

2. Rinse your mouth after eating. For best results, try to rinse with water even after snacks, including pop or candy bars. This will prevent foods from sticking to or staying with your teeth, where they can adhere to the enamel and cause stains to appear gradually. At work, use the drinking fountain or bathroom sink for a quick rinse. The quicker you rinse, the better results you will have. Some people even carry small bottles of mouthwash for a quick gargle after lunch.

3. Brush your teeth at least twice a day. Morning and evening are the best times, or following two of your main meals. This will help to remove food bits that can cause discoloration or decay. You can use whitening toothpaste if you prefer, which will provide a low-key brightening effect on your teeth without the use of harsh chemicals or abrasive products. Ask your dentist to recommend a safe whitener for this purpose.

4. Ask about tetracycline substitutes. If you are prescribed tetracycline, a popular antibiotic, ask the doctor if there is a reasonable substitute, as tetracycline has been known to discolor patients' teeth, especially those who took it frequently or for prolonged periods of time. If you must take it, check with your dentist about how to combat the potential darkening effect it may have on your teeth. Other medications may have this effect, as well, so if tooth color is a problem, ask your doctor about the potential for discoloration for any prescription you receive, or simply inquire about those you should avoid.

I have foul smell problem from last 1 month even though I brush regularly and have a balanced diet routine.

BDS
Dentist, Kolar
Bad breath can b caused fue to various reasons. Due to smoking n using tobacco products, dental prob such as decay teeth, unclean tongue, gum infections, reduced saliva n dry mouth, ill fitting dentues, salivary gland probs. Other diseases n infections which also cause bad breath r sinus infections, respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis n pneumonia, liver n kidney probs, diabetes, acid reflux from stomach etc. Get scalling done by dentist. Use proper brushing techniques. Brush, floss n use mouthwash twice daily. Massage your gums with your finger tips after brushing. Keep your tongue clean. Rinse your mouth well after each meal. Get your decay teeth filled. Visit your dentist for dental checkups every 6 months to detect n prevent dental probs. Inspite of these measures if bad breath persists, consult a general physician for further evaluation.

Ybrate 200 When I am doing brushing on teeth then why little bit water comes from gums can you pls tell me how I stop it? Thats why it takes 30-40 minutes time on brushing.

BDS
Dentist, Amritsar
It seems there is problem in your brushing technique. You must avoid aggressive brushing, do brushing in vertical strokes, brushing for 2-3 minutes is enough 30-40 minutes brushing daily will instead damage your teeth. Use mouth wash at least once a day.

Go for the treatment called bleaching. By the bleaching treatment you will get the white teeth. There is no other way to get your teeth white. Either by the scaling or bleaching.

My teeth is sensitive. I have tried sensodine but no relief yet which medicine or toothpaste give me relief?

BDS
Dentist, Jaunpur
Lybrate-user you have to understand, if a toothpaste is so effective in treating sensitivity, then our service is meaningless you have to visit to your dentist where he can check for reason of your sensitivity few of them can be as 1) periodontitis 2) cervical abrasion 3) developing caries 4) vertical fracture 5) atrission 6) failed restoration 7) fracture restoration 8) leaking restoration 9) periodontal pocket or a lot more none of the med can cover all of them I am tell you with due respect by taking med. And toothpaste you are just giving time to you disease to become worse and worse self medication is very dangerous and is not prescribed by any govt or health agency in the word.

Dental myths related to senior citizens

BDS, MDS
Dentist,
Dental myths related to senior citizens
This is due to lack of awareness about oral health and hygiene
Myth 1: Tooth Loss Is a Normal Part of Aging Process - The fact is that tooth loss is a result of an oral disease, not the aging process
Myth 2: When You Grow Old You Get Dry Mouth - Absolutely Incorrect. Dry mouth (Xerostomia) issues can affect people of all ages, but it is more prevalent in old age mainly due to the medications (decongestants, antihistamines, diuretics and antidepressants) that are consumed for various other health concerns.
Myth 3:Bleeding Gums Are Normal While Aging – Not true. Gum bleeding can occur due to various factors like gum diseases, pockets and it is not related only to aging.
Myth 4: Periodontal Disease Cannot Be Treated in Elders - False. With the combination of scaling to eliminate hardened plaque and infected gum tissue and antibiotics periodontal cases are treated successfully.
