Smoking causes cancer, breathing problems, heart attacks, and stroke. In addition, Passive or secondhand smoke causes asthma and breathing problems. With the help of your Psychiatrist, you can easily let go this nasty habit by using nicotine replacement therapy, and some other medicines.

    Strategies to Quit Smoking

    1. Set Goals

Set your goals clearly. Write down your goal or tell your family members about it. Your Goal Must  include "by when" or "how long" as well as "what." For example: "I will track my smoking for 1 week, starting tomorrow." Or "I will cut back from 20 cigarettes a day to 15 by this time next week."

2.Setting a QUIT date, and sticking to it.

This is possibly the most crucial & hence most important step. Choosing a proper quit date & sticking to it greatly improves your chances of success. Avoid setting your quit date on high-stress days, such as holidays, hectic working days or important presentation days or exam days.

3.Reward yourself for meeting your goals as Quitting smoking is a difficult process, and each small success deserves credit. If you don't meet a goal, don't punish yourself. Instead, hold back on a reward until you achieve your goal. For example, give yourself something special if you succeed.

    4. Be realistic.

You may feel very excited and positive about your plan for change. Be sure to set realistic goals-including a timeline for quitting-that you can meet. For example, your goal could be to cut back from 20 cigarettes a day to 10.

    5. Use medicines

You can meet your Psychiatrist & discuss about following FDA approved medicines to quit smoking viz Nicotine replacement therapy, Bupropion, Varnecline,Nortryptyline etc. which reduce craving & smoking withdrawal symptoms.

Remember, these medicines are prescription only drugs & must be used under supervision of a qualified Psychiatrist

    6. Be prepared for relapses

Most people are not successful the first few times they try to quit smoking. If you start smoking again, don't feel bad about yourself. A slip or relapse is just a sign that you need to change your approach to quit smoking by formulating a new plan with your doctor.

    All my Best....

    Step out of Denial Mode
When we never admit there is a problem, we cannot seek a solution. Acknowledge your shortcoming and problems which leaves you helpless. Also, dig into your belief system and thought patterns which help sustain SD. Discuss it with your trusted colleagues in the same settings and how do they manage it? Modify your belief system and coping strategies if required.
    Maintain a SMILE Journal/ Diary
Record interesting little things that made you happy today. Write a few lines every time you glean a new lesson from your experiences. These small records will help you cheer up whenever you find yourself stuck in old helpless rut.

    Locate your support system
Its important to identify your support system in advance. Individuals who are approachable and can guide you out of dense fog of SD. Someone who can help you in modifying existing coping strategies for desirable results.
    Maintain Emotional Wellbeing
While trying to step out of SD its important to take care of your emotional wellbeing. Continuous struggle, chances of relapse, exhaustion may lead to frustration and thus anger outbursts, which are capable of diminishing all the progress you have made so far. Learn how to express anger in a healthy way, so that you can use it as an effective tool instead of spoiling everything.
    Let go of Fear
A pinch of Fear can do more damage than all criticism summed up. Let go of all excuses & false beliefs that comes in the way of helping yourself. Since everything you tried till date didn’t worked its time to try something new. Start with breaking strings from self doubt. Parent your inner child in the process. Foster making mistakes and take the opportunity to learn something new rather than demoralizing yourself.
I hope these steps at your personal level shall boost you to step out of SD and if nothing works, seek help from a compassionate therapist to ride this rip.

There is no shortcut to success! by same analogy, there is no shortcut to increase memory power rapidly. But with efforts & persistence you can surely increase your memory in following way
    1. Study/read in short time intervals of 30 minutes followed by 10 minutes break where you can stretch, do rope skipping in that 10 minutes break
    2. Make notes, take plenty of notes using short forms, symbols, digits etc.
    3. Revise these notes periodically, preferably once every 3 days 4. Make mnemonics, use them frequently, revise frequently
    5. Whenever your free, sitting idle, close your eyes & try to memorize what you have read or revised earlier in the day
6 do regular yoga & pranayama which increase your mental stability, improve neuroplasticity & thus give you better memory. Good luck!

Shruti (name changed) aged 25 years, BA, homemaker and mother of two kids was a good cook and managed her house to perfection, much to anybody's envy until one day she started experiencing sudden severe headache and backache.
These symptoms made her incapable of carrying out her household duties as efficiently as she used to earlier.
Concerned with her pain & apparent symptoms severity, her husband took her to a general physician who prescribed a battery of tests including MRI Brain only to find no abnormality.
Attending Physician prescribed some multivitamin syrups & pain killer medicines & also tried to assure the family that NOTHING was wrong with Shruti.
However, she continued to complain of body aches and headaches, with resultant chaos on home management front compelling her husband to hire a maid to look after all the work including health of Shruti.
Shruti started feeling guilty about this & she started remaining aloof and also had trouble sleeping at night.
Frustrated with the added financial pressure and Shruti's ever increasing health complains, her husband accused her of faking it in order to avoid doing work.
Her in-laws added fuel to the fire citing it was all a drama. This further added to Shruti's sense of guilt and her appetite significantly reduced. 4 months after onset of these symtoms, Shruti lost 10kg weight.
She started remaining on the bed for hours and hardly interacted with anyone. She also started voicing ideas of ending her life in order to relieve everyone off her responsibility & enabling them to lead a happy life!
Now concerned, her parents took the matter in their hands & took her to a psychiatrist.
At the psychiatrist’s clinic, after detailed evaluation , Shruti was diagnosed to be suffering from depression (severe without psychotic symptoms) and the psychiatrist pointed out that the headaches & unexplained body aches were a the starting points of depression itself. She was started on medications and counselling therapy and within 2 months time she recovered completely & once again happily assumed her normal HOME MINISTERS ROLE!
Depression is one of the most common mental disorder and seen in every 4 out of 100 persons as per World health organization (WHO) data
When one thinks of depression; a sad, tearful face comes to mind. But depression is more than just that. unexplained headaches, body pains, sleeping difficulties are often the presenting complaints of depression. Other presentations of depression are chronic tiredness, joint pain, back pain, gastrointestinal problems including frequent acidity, indigestion, appetite changes etc. without any probable detectable physical cause
Depression contributes greatly to the disability caused by headache and backaches. More than 50% of patients with depression who visit general practitioners complain only of physical symptoms and in most cases, these symptoms include pain. If physicians test all pain patients for depression, they might discover 60% of currently undetected depression in their OPD.
Complete Recovery from an episode of depression is possible & achievable to everyone after proper treatment with medicines, counselling sessions & lifestyle modifications!
Next time while visiting your general Physician for any of aforementioned pain symptoms, do ask.....''AM I SUFFERING FROM DEPRESSION? DO I NEED TO SEE A PSYCHIATRIST? AM I RECEIVING ANY MEDICINE WHICH SHOULD BE TAKEN ONLY UNDER SUPERVISION OF A PSYCHIATRIST??''
    Remember, Mental Illnesses are TREATABLE!!

We live in a world of seamless connectivity. Its a world where we pride ourselves being available & online 24 by 7! So, it has become quite a rarity when we find ourselves to truly alone. Even when none of our friends or family members are physically near us, they’re only a whats app or Hike text message away. While being so connected does have its benefits, but sometimes; it’s necessary to shut the world out and live in our cocoon of loneliness or solitude. Cutting a long introduction short, what can be the benefits of solitude?
We get Innovative & more productive: When we are truly & totally alone, we don’t rely on other people to entertain or otherwise enhance our life experience. Not only it forces us to think differently but we also don’t hold our self back in any way. Result? more new ways of accomplishing a task that we might not even had tried before, had we been working in a group. (Remember the movie & novel The Martian??)
We Work Harder: Remember school & college group projects?? I bet we all had near similar experiences where one or two members of the group put in all the donkeys work on behalf of group of four or five students! This group mentality of being Passive or “someone else will do it or should do it” doesn’t exist when we are alone. And of course, if we don’t do what we are supposed to, we shall be the one's taking the blame. But on the brighter side, when we are totally alone, we are completely free from distractions and can actually focus on getting work done with monomaniacal focus.
We are able to clear our minds better:We all need time to recharge. This happens best during periods of loneliness where we can sit back & objectively think about our problems, projects without the burden of outside opinions. History is ripe with tales of great ideas & inventions springing to life in serenity of solitude.
So next time, we should all welcome the prospect of spending ''that weekend'' or ''that trip'' alone all by ourselves!! Cheers!

It is often said that successful people right from sportsperson to movie stars to business tycoons & world leaders make things happen. They just don't let the things passively drift away from them! Success is never accidental for them. For them, success at any task or project is the direct result of preparing, planning, and aligning their time with their most important goals.
1.They Dont waste time on petty decisions: Only a few decisions truly matter. Successful people know that every decision need not be perfect. This frees them to make quick decisions most of the time. They automate and simplify day to day decisions. They don’t think about whether they will go to the gym. They don’t deliberate about what they will eat for breakfast. They workout at the same time every day. They eat the same breakfast every day. They use their willpower and flex their decision making muscles on the highest impact decisions they face each day. They insist on routine: A precise formula that produces an effective daily routine doesn’t exist. But,highly successful people experiment with different activities until they find the precise routine that fits their lifestyle and sets them up for a successful day. Successful people often compile a combination of the following activities throughout the day: meditate, read, journal, exercise, prioritize their tasks & activities, and eat multiple small meals to fuel their day.
2.They Plan Ahead: One of the major differences between highly successful people and average performers is detailed and strategic planning. Successful people spend more time thinking about their big picture goals and ideas. Average performers make those decisions in a reactive mode while they’re in the thick of the forest of their lives. Successful people plan thoroughly and reap the rewards down the road.Their detailed planning provides clarity on what they should be working on at any given time. Because, what doesn’t get scheduled, doesn’t get done; successful people regularly schedule time to review their priorities, goals, and road maps to achieve them. They schedule time to monitor their progress on key objectives and iterate their plans based on results and lessons learned. They schedule their projects on a daily and weekly basis. They set aside time to plan and execute those plans. They produce at high levels because they separate the planning and creation processes. They don’t plan on their whims & fancies but they make it a habit to plan meticulously.
3.They Prioritize & work on most important projects first: Willpower is a limited resource. As we make decisions, run errands, and work on various projects throughout the day, our willpower is depleted. Successful people leverage the full tank of willpower in the morning by working on their most important project first. In his book,''First Things First" author Stephen Covey lays out a quadrant with the following categories: urgent and important, not urgent and important, urgent and not important, and not urgent and not important. The quadrant where you spend the majority of your time determines your life’s destiny.Average performers live in the urgent quadrants. They are constantly putting out fires. On the other hand, highly successful people focus on activities that are important and not urgent. These activities don’t yield instant results. However, they produce massive long-term results.

Language is a mighty powerful ability. The words we consistently use drive the deeds we do.
Call a condition a'problem' and we start to respond to that condition from the position of a victim. Speak an'excuse" & we start delivering a string of further excuses & repeated failures sometimes for a lifetime!
Words! words are those amazing tools which can inspire greatness, motivate a person to give dazzling performance and free an entire nation! these same words can destroy peoples confidence, can ruin lives & perpetuate eternal condemnation.
So, what can be 3 most powerful words which can inspire a person for achieving lasting greatness? for me, these are nike's tag line'just do it'
Because nothing happens till we start moving. Once we start doing what we want to do, universe starts responding to our intentions in affirmative by putting right people, places, opportunities, things in our path.
Without each of us starting to realize our respective potential, humanity will be little less rich & world will be a little less bright place. So, to cut a long story short. Take a deep breath & just do it!

Sure, we have been disappointed in our pursuits of the things our hearts desire before. We can’t seem to find some space within us to forgive the mistakes we have made in the past. Every time we make an attempt to improve ourselves, we are haunted by the guilt of past failures that keeps on coming back to us.
The act of ENCOURAGEMENT & POSITIVE MOTIVATION needs to start from us! We need to bring down the walls that stop us from truly appreciate who we are and what we are capable of. We need to learn to move forward by living in the present and walk away from the people who are bringing us down and trying to fill our heads with negativity.
There can NOT be any single right answer to achieve this herculean task;but it is my belief that following these simple things consistently can help us bring out the BEST IN US on a consistent basis
    1. Learn to forgive your past and move forward by living in the present on a consistent basis
    2. Embrace your past without any shame or guilt as part of what makes who you are today.
    3. Learn to forgive others; BEING HUMAN is Never easy!!
    4. Learn to celebrate every small success appropriately to remind yourself of what you are capable of & feeling good
    5. Practice to offer help to other people without expecting anything in return.
    6. Learn to trust your GUT FEELINGS & act accordingly! These are gods ways of dropping hints
    7. Start taking RISKS on a consistent basis & dare to try different things
    8. NEVER let go of the dreams that are important to you.
    9. Stop trying to become a people pleaser. Focus on those chosen few who will stand by you no matter what happens.
    10. Start monitoring your thoughts on a consistent basis. Focus on the positive. Acknowledge & let go off the negative thoughts.

    Social Anxiety Disorder
An intense fear of social situations that leads to difficulties
with personal relationships and at the workplace or in school is most common in people with social anxiety disorder. Individuals with social anxiety disorder often have an irrational fear of being humiliated in public for “saying something stupid,” or “not knowing what to say.” Some people use drugs and alcohol to try and reduce their anxiety. This is very dangerous because even though some drugs make people feel less anxious when they are high, anxiety becomes even worse when the drugs wear off.
    Treatment for Social Anxiety Disorder
What treatments are available for anxiety disorders?
Effective treatments include medications and psychotherapy techniques like imagined exposure. In most cases, a combination of psychotherapy techniques and medications is most beneficial. Some commonly used medications for anxiety
disorders are medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors
(SSRIs) like sertraline (Daxid), escitalopram (Nexito) & many more. In addition, importance of having a good diet and getting enough sleep are known to decrease symptoms in people. Regular exercise has also been scientifically proven to be effective.
