How can I get rid of smoking its too difficult to avoid such typ of thing plzz help must reply?

(MRCPSYCH-UK), MD - Psychiatry, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Hyderabad
If you are an occasional smoker - with public messages, health awareness programs and your own doctors advice, you can quit. If you are a regular smoker, motivational therapy with a trained psychotherapist or a psychiatrist and enormous will power will help you quit. If you are a diseased smoker, consult a de addiction psychiatrist at the earliest. He may give you anti-smoking medications and de addiction treatment.

This is called phobia. There is logical reason but person fears about particular things. There is no permanent in the world. No one is pure. We have to go as per the recommendations of the nature. We do not think too much about future. If think it may turned at our point no it is baseless thinking. Because of your internal frustration and no clarity about yourself may cause for shouting. First create a strong self esteem. Then everything looking very positively. If you are not settled in one area your thoughts may come baselessly. So first develop a strong self confidence. Do the work very confidently. Feel always everyone is positive. If some are negative then leave. Feel and enjoy every movement of life in a positive manner.

Dear, you must be able to distinguish between mental disease and mental disorder. Your problem is a mental disorder. Not a mental disease. These mental disorders are usually treated with a combination of medicines and other means like awareness, meditation, psychotherapy techniques, life style changes etc. I think two or three counseling sessions and psycho therapy techniques should solve your problem. Let me know if you are willing to undergo counseling sessions and tailor made psycho therapy through mobile. Take care.

I am 45 Years old male. I have lost my 21 years old the only son 2 months back. I am depressed and do not want to talk anybody. I am in fear that any body can kill me, but why I don't know. I have just attempted suicide but unfortunately alive. Loss of appetite.

MBBS, Diploma in Psychological Medicine, M.D Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Kolkata
Dear Mr. lybrate-user, I have no words to express my feelings towards you. At this time it is quiet natural to be depressed and morose. All these can happens as a grief reaction. But I think yours one is something more because a kind of psychotic symptoms is appearing which indicates that your grief has turned into severe depression. Also you had attempted suicide. I think you should not be alone at this stage, be always with your close family members. Try to ventilate yourself by remembering your beloved son. Pray for his soul. Involve yourself in some social works so that you can percolate your love for your son in between the children at his age. Try to sublimate your grief into a productive one. If still you can't find solution you can always take professional help of a grief counsellor or a Psychiatrist. Hope you will get some light in the sea of your sorrow.

I am male and attracted towards male. I do not want to be a gay. Please help me to get rid of this feeling. My age is 21.

M.S. Counselling and Psychotherapy
Psychologist, Bangalore
Dear lybrate user, all the people in this world are different from each other. We all are unique. We all have different bodies, minds, religions, likings, interests etc. We all have different sexual preferences. Some people are white, some are brown, some are black, some people are tall, some are short, some are thin, some are fat. Some people like sweets, some like spicy food, some like boiled food. Similarly some are heterosexual, some are gay, some are bisexuals. Unfortunately, in india, people are not aware and are not open about their sexualities. And this creates a huge stress on people who are gay/lesbians/bisexuals etc be causing being gay is considered bad in india. But it is not so. If you have realised that you are getting attracted to other men, then probably you are gay. But to confirm, speak to a doctor or a counsellor about it. They will help you in understanding and accepting you sexuality and help you in leading a happy life. Please remember, if you are gay and if you keep denying it, it will create problems for you in future. It is very important for you to understand your own feelings and needs. Kindly consult a professional. And be happy, you may be in minority but you are not a criminal.

How to memorize what I read I mean regarding subjects , i generally forget the things .

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Do the following diligently: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food.

I am facing problem related to concentration of semen some time it becomes dilute what should I do, to maintain it constant?

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear lybrate user. The quantity and viscosity of semen depends on many factors including your body's hydration level, stress, frequency of masturbation or sexual intercourse etc. I assure you, quantity or viscosity or semen never determines the quality or sexual performance. Don't worry about it and take care.

I have depression problem. I always think negative only. I have constipation problem also. Some time I want to die please tell me how to get rid of this?

Masters in Clinical Psychology
Psychologist, Lucknow
Hi, Thank you for seeking help on Lybrate. I can not' even imagine the stress you must be going through to the point of having suicidal thoughts. To assess and help you properly I need to understand what Kind of negative thoughts do you have, if there are any stress in life. Negative thinking can be a habit of mind. Thoughts sink in and linger there until you take action to get rid of them. When you first start thinking negatively, it can be tempting to try and force those thoughts out of your head. You try as hard as possible to stop thinking about them and push them out. But this approach often backfires. Resisting those negative thoughts can actually reinforce that thinking pattern and just make things worse. The more you try not to think about something, the more you actually end up thinking about it. To get rid of negative thinking, you need to try a different approach – something that will clear your mind of those negative thoughts once and for all. Here are seven ways to clear your mind of negative thinking. 1. Change your body language Take a moment to observe your body language. Are you slouching with a closed stance? Are you frowning? If you are, you’re more likely to think negatively. Bad body language can lower your self-image and lead to a lack of confidence. In that emotional state, it’s only natural to start having bad thoughts. Sit up straight in a confident manner. Open your stance and smile more. Fix your body language and you’ll feel a lot better. It might be just what you need to clear those negative thoughts. 2. Talk it out Sometimes negative thinking occurs because you have issues or emotions you need to get out. It’s not good to keep things to yourself. If you have something that needs to be addressed, you should talk through them with someone. Putting things into words gives your thoughts shape and form. That can help you put things into perspective so you can deal with them at the root of the problem. 3. Spend one minute calming your mind of all thought When your mind is running a mile a minute, it can be hard to keep up. With everything racing around your head, it can be hard to control the thoughts going on inside – especially the negative ones. Slow things down. One minute of calming is often all it takes. It’s kind of like meditation – you’re emptying your mind. Think of it as a reboot. Once it’s empty, you can fill it with something a little more positive. 4. Change the tone of your thoughts Sometimes negative thinking is the result of poor perspective. Take a look at the point of view you take on the things going on around you. For example, instead of thinking, “I’m going through a difficult time and I’m having trouble,” think “I’m facing some challenges, but I’m working on finding solutions.” You’re basically saying the same thing, except the second way has a more positive spin to it. But sometimes that little tonal shift can make a huge difference to your thinking patterns. 5. Be creative When negative thoughts come, it can pay to spend some time creatively. Find a creative outlet for your thoughts. Write things out. Draw or paintsomething – even if you have to use a crayon. As long as you’re using your creativity to get your negativity out, it can work. Exploring your emotions through creativity acts like auto-therapy and can elevate your mood. Creativity can feel like a release. When you put your emotions through an art form, you get them out of your system and clear them out. 6. Take a walk Because thoughts arise in the mind, it’s easy to assume that’s where they’re formed. Well, that’s only partly true. Sometimes our thoughts are a product of our environment. For example, if you surrounded yourself with negative people and negative imagery, you’d probably start to think negatively in turn. Stepping away from a negative environment can help immensely. Take a walk alone away from your usual atmosphere. Head somewhere uplifting like a park or museum. Time spent distancing yourself from those negative influences can bring you great peace of mind. 7. Start listing out what you’re grateful for Have you forgotten all the good things you have going for you? Sometimes in the daily grind, we lose focus on all the ways things that are going right in our lives. If that’s you, then you need to re-train your mind to focus on all the good happening around you instead of the bad. List off everything you’re grateful for no matter how small they seem to be. For constipation, drink lots of water, have flax seeds and fibre. You can have caffeine, There’s a reason the evening walk used to be called the daily constitutional. Regular exercise helps your body move food quicker. Aim for a daily walk at the very least. Consult me for same. All the best.
