Hi Anxiety disorders are usually quite troublesome for the patient as well as for family members as it is impossible for them to make the patient understand the reality. Its almost impossible for anyone to make the patient relax. Patient continuously thinks and speaks about only those things which are in her mind. Patients suffering from Anxiety Disorders are not ready to take medicine easily as they think its not a medicinal problem and medicines will harm me further with their side effects. It seems more so in case of your mom. As far as ayurvedic treatment is concerned I cannot throw much light on that being not an expert on the field; but, I will suggest homoeopathic treatment for your mom because our medicines are quite effective in these kind of cases. Moreover homoeopathic medicines are very easy to take and are free of any kind of side effects. BUT, its very important that her case needs to dealt with sensitivity as she might not trust any physician. On basis of the short history I can not suggest any medication as a detailed history is required for successful treatment, which includes listening to her patiently and then figuring out the origin of the problem and then treatment can be done accordingly. For that you can make use of this platform to contact me.

If you are in a position to meet a lot of people and engage in socializing, it will help. Thinking about death is not a good sign. You must go and meet with a counselor immediately and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor you must do so and cooperate to your utmost. Please visit these professionals along with your parents. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

Hi, Losing a loved one can leave anyone like an emotional wreck. For some intensity of emotions fades with times while memories remain on our mind forever. There is a tranformation in life that we confront unwillingly on loss of a loved one but loss does not necessarily need to be for the worse in the long term. I understand you will never be able to forget but we shall be concerned if the grief continues for amvery long time. To help you I need to know some more information about you. What is your age? Are there any others difficulties you have been facing apart from loss of interest? How is your sleep & appetite? Some people feel its worthless to live? They get ideas of hopelessness. Is it the case with you. Plz come back with answers. ALL THE BEST!

If you are elderly smoker with blood tinged sputum, loss of weight, any new lump in axilla, neck, fossa above collar bone then you may be suffering from lung cancer. Usually lung cancer is silent killer. Symptoms are often late to come probably in 3rd or 4th stage. Treatment may not help with longevity of life in late stages but they can be palliative to increase the quality of whatever life remains.
QUIT SMOKING. .....
SAY NO TO LUNG CANCER. ..

I have some psycholigal problem. As I am suffering from a recent breakup. So there is a big anger and restlessness.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
You do not have a psychological problem but an emotional one: you are very angry and probably because you feel let down or taken advantage of. This sounds like a clear case of being let down by your boyfriend and therefore the restlessness. Perhaps at 35 it is likely more difficult and you may have been in this relationship for some time too. Look back into why this breakup took place and identify how much you have been the cause or taken things for granted. Then work on that for some time with a counselor and resolve it for good. You are still young and the possibilities are immense. But first get over this relationship before getting into another. Sometimes these things happen for the best. Suppose this had happened after marriage that could have been worse! Trust that there is a divine purpose and things will look up in time. Get quickly back into circulation and normalize your socialize life by catching up with old friends whom you might have neglected. Get involved with social activities and have a good time. You are now free and the whole world beckons. Do not brood and let it get the better of you. Talk to someone, including a counselor, and bring out all your feelings. Get rid of all reminders of this friend; be they gifts, photos, and avoid the favorite haunts, activities and people. In about six months, max, you will be out of this condition and ready to launch a new beginning. But in all this you must have learned a lesson, otherwise you will tend to repeat them without your knowledge. A counselor will guide you on that path. Become active, exercise regularly, talk about your feelings to clear it off of you. Otherwise you could land up with a depression. That can happen if you turn your anger inwards.

Smoking and Your Teeth

Smoking and Your Teeth

Smoking increases the risk of heart disease and lung cancer, but even before those potentially deadly diseases develop, regular smokers are more likely to begin losing their teeth. A new study from britain's university of birmingham and the german institute of human nutrition determined that men who smoke are 3.6 times more prone to lose their teeth than non-smokers, while among women smokers the risk is 2.5 times higher. The researchers based their conclusions on data gathered from 23, 376 participants in a long-term study in germany. Part of the problem is that smoking is a strong risk factor in promoting tooth decay and gum disease, both of which can lead to tooth loss. The investigators noted that smoking can mask bleeding gums, a key symptom of gum disease, so that a smoker's gums may look healthier than they actually are. The good news is that quitting smoking can reverse the increased risk of tooth loss, although the researchers wrote that it could take more than 10 years for the risk to equal that of someone who never smoked.

Your brain is like a muscle. You need to exercise it regularly. The exciting thing is that you don’t have to be a millionaire to increase your brain capacity. All you need to do is invest a little time to regularly train your brain. So what can you do? Here are 10 simple ways you can increase your brain power and improve your intelligence! 1. Do something new When you experience something ‘new’ you actually ‘stimulate’ your brain! Don’t get stuck in a rut doing the same old things – the only way to change the structure of your brain is to do something new. This creates new neural pathways, increasing your intelligence. You could take a new route to work, try a new recipe for dinner, or even a new form of exercise – mix it up! 2. Exercise regularly It’s been proven that regular exercise helps to increase brain function and enhances neurogenesis. This means that every time you exercise you are creating new brain cells! Get off the couch and get moving! Your brain will thank you for it :) 3. Train your memory How often do you hear people say “I wish I had a better memory!’ Yet no-one does anything about this! If you discipline yourself to memorise phone numbers and other important numbers (passport, credit card, insurance, driving license) you will start to see a marked improvement in your memory 4. Be curious Instead of taking everything at face value, get into the habit of questioning everyday things/products, services that you come into contact with. By being ‘curious’ and questioning everything, you force your brain to innovate & create new ideas. Curiosity may have killed that cat, more importantly it created super important things like electricity and computers! 5. Think positive Stress & anxiety kill existing brain neurons and also stop new neurons from being created. Research has shown that positive thinking, especially in the future tense, speeds up the creation of cells and dramatically reduces stress & anxiety. Try and get a handle on negative thoughts and make an effort to replace them with positive ones. 6. Eat healthy Our diets have a HUGE impact on brain function. Our brains consume over 20% of all nutrients & oxygen that we consume – so remember to feed your brain with the good stuff! (i.e. fresh fruit and veg & plenty of OMEGA 3 oils found in oily fish) 7. Read a book Reading relieves tension & stress (brain-cell killers) because it’s a form of escapism. Research has also shown that using your imagination is a great way to train your brain because you force your mind to ‘picture’ what you are imagining. Reading is a great way to trigger your imagination! 8. Get enough sleep Sleep is like a mini detox for the brain. This is when your body regenerates cells and removes all the toxins that have built up during the day. Get to bed between the hours of 9pm and midnight to benefit from the most effective hours of sleep! 9. Ditch the GPS Gone are the days of map reading! Sat Nav may have made our lives easier, it has also made our brains lazier and less efficient at the same time! Go back to the old school and use a map to navigate every now and then (this exercises the part of your brain responsible for understanding spatial relationships). 10. Ban the calculator Remember back at school when we were taught to use our brains to do simple sums like times tables?! It’s incredible how we now rely on devices like smart-phones and laptops to calculate really simple equations. Resist the urge to work things out using an external device – and use the device you were born with – your brain! 7 Strategies for Remembering 1. Become interested in what you're learning. We're all better remembering what interests us. Few people, for example, have a difficult time remembering the names of people they find attractive. If you're not intrinsically interested in what you're learning or trying to remember, you must find a way to become so. 2. Find a way to leverage your visual memory. You'll be surprised by how much more this will enable you to remember. For example, imagine you're at a party and are introduced to five people in quick succession. How can you quickly memorize their names? Pick out a single defining visual characteristic of each person and connect it to a visual representation of their name, preferably through an action of some kind. Remember: Memory is predominantly visual. 3. Create a mental memory tree. If you're trying to memorize a large number of facts, find a way to relate them in your mind visually with a memory tree. Construct big branches first, then leaves. Branches and leaves should carry labels that are personally meaningful to you in some way, and the organization of the facts ("leaves") should be logical.. 4. Associate what you're trying to learn with what you already know. It seems the more mental connections we have to a piece of information, the more successful we'll be in remembering it. This is why using mnemonics. Write out the items to be memorized over and over and over. 5. When reading for retention, summarize each paragraph in the margin. This requires you to think about what you're reading, recycle it, and teach it to yourself again. Even take the concepts you're learning and reason forward with them; apply them to imagined novel situations, which creates more neural connections to reinforce the memory. 6. Do most of your studying in the afternoon. Though you may identify yourself as a "morning person" or "evening person" at least one Study. suggests your ability to memorize isn't influenced as much by what time of day you perceive yourself to be most alert but by the time of day you actually study—afternoon appearing to be the best. 7. Get adequate sleep to consolidate and retain memories. Not just at night after you've studied but the day, you study as well. Far better to do this than to stay up cramming all night for an exam.
