Her mother was a cervical cancer patient. Please let me know that 1. Is this type of disease is hereditary? 2. If yes. For taking precaution what she should?

M.Ch - Surgical Oncology, MS - General Surgery, MBBS

No cervical cancer is generally not inherited, but yes it is very common in india. You should strongly consider regular screening with pap smear if concerned. It will help in detecting the disease early, when it is more effectively treatable and curable.

Is prostate enlargement possible in 23 year age? I am facing problem in toilet and urinate so many times.

Is prostate enlargement possible in 23 year age? I am facing problem in toilet and urinate so many times.
Mr. lybrate-user. Increase in frequency of toilet does not always mean prostate enlargement. It is most commonly urinary tract infection. Visit a doctor and get a urine investigation done. Drink lots of water. Hope it helps.

Colon Cancer and Ayurveda

Colon cancer refers to the uncontrolled growth of cancer cells in the region of your large intestine. It is often associated with rectal cancer and is termed as colorectal cancer, since the process of metastasis (a process through which cancer cells pass rapidly to the other organs of your body) is very rapid for this particular medical condition. Colon cancer is prevalent among both men and women irrespective of their age, but is generally noticed in people above forty years of age. Though the causes of colon cancer cannot be specifically identified, there are certain factors that can increase your chance of developing colon cancer.

The risk factors are mentioned below:

  1. Family history of colon cancer
  2. Chronic diseases of the intestine(like inflammation of intestine)
  3. A regular diet with low fibers but high calories
  4. Diabetes
  5. Obesity
  6. Consuming high amount of alcohol

If you are diagnosed with colon cancer, you may show the following symptoms:

  • Inconsistency of bowel movements. (diarrhea and constipation)
  • Passage of blood through stool
  • Pain in your abdominal region
  • Sudden weight loss
  • Body fatigue

Colon cancer can be fatal if not treated at an early stage. Ayurveda offers effective remedies for colon cancer. Some of the remedies are mentioned below

  1. Drinking green tea can be very effective. Green tea has epigallocatechin (a Polyphenol used in different dietary supplements) which can destroy the formation of cancer cells.
  2. Consuming Aloe Vera is another useful technique. It cleans the digestive tract and colon region by removing harmful toxins and can thus help to cure cancer faster.
  3. Turmeric is also very potent in fighting cancer. It contains curcumins which can destroy the cancer cells formed in the colon region.
  4. Ashwagandha is known to have certain properties that can control the growth of cancer cells and is thus instrumental in treating colon cancer.
  5. The juice of garlic has certain medicinal properties that can combat the growth of cancer cells in your colon region. Intake of garlic juice can thus be very helpful.

Since colon cancer has limited survival rates, it is highly recommended for you to seek advice from an Ayurveda practitioner if you wish to get healed naturally.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. There could be a lot of reasons for her pain, it may not actually be linked with her previous history of breast cancer and could just be degenerative arthrosis setting in the joints. I will advise for a fresh x ray (ap standing & lateral views) of affected knee and get her esr, crp, serum electrolytes and serum vitamin d levels done so that I can see and advise accordingly. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

How can we find breast cancer in first stage? And how can we react to the sickness.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear sir, regular self breast examination five days after the periods are over, is the key to diagnose in early stages. If over 40 years then she can get mammography done in addition to self and clinical breast examination. Most often it presents as painless lump, so do not ignore any lumps in breast.

I am 18 years old and I am an boy. I have a big lumb on my right chest since 2 years. The left one is normal but the right chest appears like a breast.

Advanced Aesthetics, M.Ch - Plastic Surgery, MS - General Surgery, MBBS
Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon, Indore
To the best of our knowledge no medicines or creams work to decrease the breast size. Male breast or gynecomastia reduction. Gynecomastia is treatable by surgery. There is no medical treatment. It is a one day out patient surgery with very gratifying results. It boosts self esteem also. It is a 1 day hospital stay surgery. It takes 1 day for consultation and investigation and 2nd day surgery and discharge in 3-4 hours. The Dr. Can examine and tell you what is the problem, gynacomastia has a breast tissue and a fat component. No one wants surgery unless it is necessary. There is no medication which can give the results. Surgery is the only answer. The surgery is almost painless because there are enough medications to keep the pain under control.

I have a oral submucos fibrosis so this is confirm that I will 100 present get oral cancer? Or I can prevent it?

MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Coimbatore
First, submucosal fibrosis is not cancer and no, it need not turn into cancer all the time. But you are at a higher risk of getting oral cancer. If you are a smoker or a tobacco chewer, stop that immediately. Seek help if needed. The treatment will depend on how symptomatic it is and how severe it is.

My mother having 8 m.m.of ghat (cyst ) in her left breast It is a sign of breast cancer please help.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help for your mother. Hormonal changes from monthly menstruation can trigger cysts. However, breast cysts are usually benign. Nevertheless, to be on a safer side, I would advise you to get this clinically examined by her ob/ gyn right away and not delay any further. In general, do follow a streamlined diet (preferably mediterranean) and lifestyle with due emphasis on regular exercise, stress reduction and relaxation. Should she have any pain, she may apply an alternating heat and cold treatment for couple of minutes that may alleviate the same. She needs to stay well hydrated and can take'amla churna' (patanjali) &'bael churna (patanjali- 1/2 tsp each with warm water, preferably before lunch daily for next 1 month. She can also take tomato soup to which fresh herbs like garlic, turmeric, black pepper, ginger, coriander leaves and oregano has been added, once daily. Her ob/ gyn shall be able to advise further on, in particular, once he/ she gets to clinically examine her in person. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best. Sincerely,

My mother is 58 year old. She detected breast cancer in 2011 and we treated completely with chemo therapy and surgery. Now she is fine but she is not taking any medicine regarding cancer .In June 2016 completely tested regarding cancer and everything was fine. I want to know how much time again test her and should she take any medicine for preventing from regenerate of cancer.

MBBS, DNB (Surgical Oncology)
Oncologist, Delhi
If a patient of breast cancer is ER/PR positive then she has to take hormonal tablets for 5 - 10 years after completion of chemo/radiation. If she is ER & PR negative then no additional tablets is required. But she has to be on lifelong followup and some tests need to be done yearly.

My teenage girls want to use nail polish, but I have heard that many nail polishes contain formaldehyde and can cause cancer. Is it safe for my daughters to use it?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Now a days most renowned brands do not use formaldehyde, though once in a while it's okay to use, we do not see too many cancers linked to nail polish usage. It is definitely of concern for the workers working in nail paint factories, who are in chemical contacts in many ways
