I'm 60 years old having very good health but I have fissures which at time of slight constipation give pain and some times bleed also. I do take care in taking the type of food which does not cause hard stool. I add roughage/ fiber rich food to my diet. Please suggest what else should I do to get rid of this problem.

DNB (ENT), MBBS
ENT Specialist, Bangalore
Hi Use of laxatives in the night such as isabgol or liquid cremaffin will loosen the stools and allow the fissures to heal. You can then continue with your soft fibre diet.

Hey. yesterday when I went to washroom I found blood in my stool. Wt r the possible reasons n is dere anything to worry?

M.D.MEDICINE
General Physician, Rajkot
Hi there. Fresh blood in stool warrants examination by a surgeon for piles or in some cases fissure. After ruling out piles you need to go for lower gastro intestinal scopy. But make sure you get an examination earliest possible as blood loss may lead to anemia. Take care.

My mother is complaining of pain while passing stool. She feels like she has rashes/ diane near the rectum or anus. Please suggest what is the best possible treatment. Her age is 61 years and she has never had a history of such problem. No BP or sugar problem. No surgery. She has pain in passing urine as well. She has gall bladder stones and we are thinking of getting her operated as soon as possible.

MS - General Surgery
General Surgeon, Kanpur
She needs to be examined by a general surgeon and proctoscopy to be done to find out what exactly it is, keep her stool soft by taking plenty of fluids orally and high fibre diet even she can take syp cremaffin 3 to 6 tsf hs daily, use ointment lox anally before defecation, proper treatment follows according to examination. For gallbladder stone surgery is needed only when she has symptoms like pain.
