Good evening, I am Dr Anju Yadav and I am working as a Fertility specialist at Bourn Hall Fertility, Gurgaon. So, today I am going to speak about common myths which are there among people about IVF.

Some of the common Myths about IVF-

  • The most common misconception is related to bed rest. Some people feel that prolonged bed rest will help increase the chance of getting pregnant. But scientifically it is not true and there is no evidence till date that bed rest help in increasing the chances of pregnancy. In fact, some studies have shown that if you do bed rest for a long time, it will re distribute the blood flow to your pelvic organs and it might decrease the chances of getting pregnant. Hence, it is always advisable to resume your routine physical activity. After embryo transfer, we medically always advise our patients to refrain from strenuous physical activities but it is actually recommended to resume your routine physical activities.
  • The second prevalent misconception about IVF is that if you go for IVF, IVF will lead to your early menopause. This is again not true. Females are born with the fixed number of eggs and that can vary from lakhs to millions and females do not produce new eggs. So, when the female start menstruating every month, few of these eggs start growing and one of them will grow mature and ovulate while rest of the eggs will die in this process. So, ultimately every month we are going to lose some eggs. It does not matter whether we are trying to get pregnant or we go for IUI, IVF but some of the eggs are going to be lost. It is not like IVF will deplete your eggs, in fact, IVF is very safe and effective procedure and there are no ill- lasting effects in your body.
  • Some patients think that IVF causes ovarian cancer. It is again a myth because first IVF baby was born in 1978 and till then researches are being done on this topic and there is no evidence found till now that it causes Ovarian cancer. So, there is no need to be afraid of myths. It is very safe and effective treatment.

hi, I can understand your feelings. Though PCOD creates some problem in some cases in conceiving but not with everyone. If in future you face this problem then let me assure you that females having PCOD have very good success rate of getting pregnant by IVF. Now a days ivf has become new natural. So don't worry about it. Rather taking unnecessary stress may become a cause of not conceiving. Secondly, start brisk walking daily for at least forty minutes or do some physical exercises to reduce your weight as this also cause a problem in conceiving in normal females too. if you want further counselling, you may have a telephonic counselling session with me here on Lybrate.

Success will be there but you don't need tube for ivf. You have one tube you can conceive with one tube also.

you will have to get a detailed workup .There is no quick fix as PCOD is acomplex problem .The treatment plan will depend on your age ,the severity and whether you are married or planning to conceive etc

Its common in this month. So don't worry. Try not to watch t. V 2-3 hrs before bed time avoid tea coffee totally avoid sleeping in day time a glass of warm milk with 1 tsp pure ghee be taken at night after meals a head massage as well as foot massage with warm oil can be done at bed time.

Sir I am 24 year old and my girlfriend is also 25. Last week we shared bed. After the fore play I try yo insert my penis into her vagina. But it is very and and I can not insert it. I try this attempt for servral time but result was negative (i can not insert my penis). After all I ejaculate into her stomach. She say that she touch the clothe wiped sperm into her vagina. Sir is any chance for pregnancy. I am sure I didt ejaculated on her vagina. She is very tensed. Her last period start from 8th june. Please help.

Can't say at this stage, though the chances of pregnancy are minimal as it seems she is a virgin, but however you need to wait for her periods due date and in case she misses her periods you may do a Urine pregnancy test to see for pregnancy if any ,for any further information or assistance you may get back to us.

To get pregnant you need to have fallopian tubes patent which is checked by hsg test as you had one miscarriage before. Once the above test is normal, then treatment with clomiphene citrate is started with monitoring of egg. It looks like probably you have gained weight so you might be suffering from pcod, which again can be diagnosed on sonography.

Breathe Well Sleep Well

Total wellness is not possible without good sleep. Sleep is a de-learning process. It relaxes and rejuvenates the body and makes our body ready for a
new day. We spend one third of our life in sleep and this one third decides the two third of our life. For every two hours of alertness we need one of sleep. Ever since society has become 24x7, our sleep quality has become poor. A healthy body needs a regular refreshing seven to eight hours of sleep.

Sleep debt creates a mortgaged mind. If we are sleeping one hour less per day then we have to pay back in the day. Sleeplessness is equivalent to drunken driving. Anger, agitation, personality disorders, road rage, substance abuse are indirectly related to poor sleep. Sleep disorders are rising in society and more over sedentary behaviour, obesity is responsible for the rising number of sleep apnoea and related sleep disorders.

There are two types of sleep disorders one primarily because of defects in sleep regulatory mechanisms and others are secondary due to lifestyle causing insomnia and sleep disordered breathing like sleep apnoea. A tired and spent person gets relief and is able to retrieve his liveliness and energy only after taking sound sleep. Sleep is a law of nature which is applicable not only to human beings but also to the botanical world.

A good night sleep is a good regular sleep practice. Always be happy while sleeping. Concentrate on your breathing and feel you are totally relaxed. Keep in mind that the pranayama practice is very important. Pranayama and yoga are the key to good activation of our biological clock.

Our hypothalamic area in the brain is our internal clock. If we do not nurture our biological clock we will face sleep delay and fragmented sleep.

A good sleep involves right pre-sleep practices. It’s like a right alap before a classical music performance. Yoga and Pranayama are an important measure to improve sleep and reduce work place negativity, tension, anxiety and so many other problems. Following yoga and pranayama – Bhastrika pranayam, Kapalbhati pranayam and Anulom Vilom pranayam – have been found to be beneficial.

Besides this, Shavasan and Yognidra are very much useful for sound sleep. Listening to light music like mantras before sleep is beneficial. Yoga increases blood circulation and stimulates the nervous system. Following few practices improves oxygenation to the brain and improves sleep quality and cures insomnia. Halasana and Sarvangasana are the asana to cure insomnia naturally by yoga.

Good pre-sleep habits are called sleep hygiene. A good sleep hygiene improves sleep quality by reducing the onset of sleep and maintenance of rhythm of sleep. We all enter sleep through NREM sleep it’s like slow uncoiling of a curtain wire. We enter sleep with high alfa waves and slowly go to delta or slow wave sleep.

Initial sleep is all NREM sleep and subsequently we enter REM sleep or rapid eye movement sleep. REM sleep constitutes one third of total sleep and in this time of sleep muscles reach to zero tone and it's a dream sleep.

This is about a 50-year-old man, a heavy smoker with sedentary corporate life with disturbed sleep, snoring, day time sluggishness, irritability and poor corporate performance.

He was subjected to a quit tobacco programme, weight loss and good nutrition and lifestyle modification programme with following sleep rules.

He improved on all fronts and started enjoying wellness in his life.

Stick to your sleep time and get up exactly 7 to 8 hours after sleep. You will feel oven fresh.

Follow this sleep rules one hour before going to your sleep clock.

1. A relaxing warm shower an hour before sleep.

2. Anulom vilom for five minutes

3. Kapalbhati for five minutes, avoid doing if you had dinner an hour before.

4. Bhastrika for five minutes.

5. Eye exercises for five minutes in all quadrants

6. Cervical flexion, extension and rotation exercises for two minutes.

7. Sharvanasana or corpse pose for 5 minutes and focus on your breath.

8. Now listen to some slow music. Music induces Alfa activity and helps in sleep initiation for 10 minutes.

9. Do visual imagery. Make memorable twenty images on your iPad or phone or album and slowly brush though.

This helps in release of endorphins and gives feel good feeling for 5 minutes.

10. Take a hot cup of milk. Milk has serotonin and serotonin induces sleep. These steps will de-stress you and help you to get a sound sleep.

Avoid thinking too much while sleeping. Just relax while sleeping.

Always be happy while sleeping. Concentrate on your breathing and feel totally relaxed.

Keep in mind pranayama practice is very important, as important as pre-sleep habit.

Go to your doctor and get detailed investigations for both of you and your husband. PCOS patients usually respond well to infertility treatments. Along with drugs, you must control your weight and diet. All the best.

Hello. Het lmp means last menstrual period is on 5th may. Then she is 5 weeks 5 days pregnant almost. Consult a doctor for further follow up. Folic acid is must for her. Good healthy diet and good sleep is beneficial. Avoid heavy work in this time. Keep in touch for any advice. Have a healthy pregnancy for her.
