During pregnancy weight loose exercises are usually not prescribed, I would say that start walking everyday atleast 20 minutes upto 7 month of pregnancy. Do not eat food after sunset you will loose weight naturally by doing this. Avoid sugar and oily food. If possible start using atta peesne ki chakki. Its the best exercise for women, your baby will born naturally because it brings flexibility in your uterus. Eat methi ka dana or methi ke ladoo for a healthy baby and to reduce delivery complications.

High Blood Pressure - How To Keep The Level Controlled For A Healthy Heart?

DNB (Cardiology), DM - Cardiology, MD - General Medicine, MBBS
Cardiologist, Delhi
High Blood Pressure - How To Keep The Level Controlled For A Healthy Heart?

The heart is a muscular organ that pumps blood to the entire body through a network of arteries and veins. This network contains big vessels which branch out further to supply blood to the distant organs. There is, therefore, some pressure that the heart and thereby the vessels need to exert to push the blood through these vessels. This is known as blood pressure, and normal pressure levels range from 90-140(systolic)/60-90(diastolic) mm of Hg. However, due to various reasons, this pressure could be more, which is one of the first signs of heart disease

Causes of increased blood pressure:

  1. Thickening of the blood vessels. With age, the elastic blood vessels naturally turn rigid and less elastic, so there is more pressure required to push blood. It is natural for people over 55 years of age to have higher readings of blood pressure. This is known as primary hypertension (HTN)
  2. Narrowed blood vessels. This happens due to cholesterol accumulation along the walls of the blood vessels. Faulty dietary habits along with sedentary lifestyle have increased the incidence of hypertension due to this condition, known as atherosclerosis. Critical atherosclerotic narrowing of renal arteries lead to renovascular HTN that is one of the commonest of secondary HTN.

Other Causes of secondary hypertension are:

  1. Kidney problems
  2. Thyroid hormone disorders
  3. Congenital heart defects
  4. Chronic alcohol abuse
  5. Adrenal gland tumours
  6. Chronic use of medications like birth control pills, pain killers, etc.

Unidentified and uncontrolled hypertension can be silent and can lead to more severe conditions like heart attack and stroke. India is fast becoming the new hypertension capital of the world. Some of the common risk factors are:

  1. Age
  2. Family history
  3. Being obese or overweight
  4. Sedentary lifestyle
  5. Smoking
  6. Alcohol consumption
  7. Excessive salt intake
  8. Stress levels
  9. Ethnic background

Symptoms:

  1. Hypertension can go undetected for years together, but if there are risk factors like diabetes and high cholesterol, it is advisable to periodically monitor blood pressure.
  2. Headaches, nosebleeds, and shortness of breath should not be ignored. These can be the first warning signs of hypertension, and if detected early, preventive measures can be taken.
  3. If there are co-morbid risk factors, it is advisable to constantly keep a check on BP readings.

Management:

This includes a combination of diet and lifestyle modifications.

  1. Quit smoking and alcohol: Of the many wonders quitting smoking can do, reducing BP readings is just one. The improvement would be almost instantaneous. Quit or else reduce alcohol and see dramatic improvements.
  2. Weight management: Through a combination of diet and exercise, ensure that weight is brought under control. Set a target BMI (Below 26 kg/m2) and work towards it religiously.
  3. Diet: Reduce salt, increase potassium, increase vitamin D, eat a heart-healthy diet, and see the hypertension readings improve. Please find attached and reviewed copy for health tip for posting

There are several things you can do to prevent a cold—they are all easy and inexpensive and worth the effort. Wash your hands often-with soap and warm water. The germs stick to the soap and get washed down the drain. Always wash your hands after coughing or sneezing into your hands, blowing your nose, after touching someone who is sick, or when using public restrooms or telephones. Cover Your Mouth and Nose When You Sneeze or Cough- Clean your hands every time you cough or sneeze. Avoid Touching Your Eyes, Nose, or Mouth-Germs are often spread when a person touches a contaminated surface and then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth. Stay Home When You’re Sick-Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, don’t smoke, manage stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food so you can fend off viruses. Take healthy balanced diet...like boiled eggs.daily in breakfast .. Avoid people who have a cold or cold symptoms. Routinely clean and disinfect common areas of your home. Treatment:There is a gradual 1-3 day onset of symptoms. It often starts out as a sore throat, then a fever and coughing. As the cold progresses, the nasal mucus may thicken which is the last stage before the cold dries up. A cold usually lasts for a week or two. But, taking good care of yourself at home can relieve symptoms and help prevent complications if you are otherwise healthy. Unless you develop complications, you shouldn’t need medical treatment. Complications include bacterial infections of the ears, throat, sinuses or lungs which must be treated with antibiotics. In general you should: • get plenty of rest so your body can use its energy to fight the cold • staying at home will keep you from spreading germs • drink plenty of liquids like herbal tea or hot broth/vegetable/tomato soups. Avoid foods or drinks with caffeine which can keep you from getting enough sleep Runny Nose and Sneezing- if you have post nasal drip, gargle to keep from getting a sore throat. Drink extra fluids. (avoid sugary and high calorie drinks) Use saline nasal sprays or nasal irrigation • Tablet Nasorest-P once/twice daily may reduce the amount of mucous. • Humidify the rooms you are in most or your whole house if possible. • Do steam inhalation once or twice daily Cough-Coughing is how your body gets rid of debris and mucus from the airways during a viral infection. Unless your cough is severe or is keeping you from resting at night, it is better not to treat it. A severe cough can be treated with a cough syp, but don’t try to completely stop the cough. There are two types of coughs. Productive and non-productive or dry cough. Non-productive, dry cough. A dry, hacking cough may develop near the end of a cold. Dry coughs that follow viral colds are often worse at night and can last up to several weeks. Take syrup Alex-D for a dry cough. Cough drops can sooth an irritated throat, but most don’t affect the cough. Productive cough. A productive cough is one that brings up mucus from the back of the throat or the lungs. Productive coughs should not be suppressed to the point they no longer bring up mucus. Use syrup Alex. Drink lots of water if you have a productive cough. Head and Body Aches- Take tablet dolo-650 mg for fever once or twice daily

I had been having severe attacks of panic and anxiety for a month, but this last week I had been feeling much better, but yesterday I received the news that my friend has cancer, I did not know how to take this news and I panicked, and now I am feeling burning in my arms and legs, I do not want to feel bad again, like the previous days and I feel so much fear. I try yo don't think about it, but I can't, and feel like I will going crazy, what can I do? I don't want to think about it, and I feel scared to get severe anxiety again.

I had been having severe attacks of panic and anxiety for a month, but this last week I had been feeling much better,...
The more you try not to think about this fear, the more it will be present to haunt you. You need to face your fear: as you face it, it's threat will gradually deteriorate, and you can handle it better. You are obviously not handling stress well. You seem to have a nervous disposition, perhaps developed from your past. If you can identify that source you may be able to work it out in therapy. Perhaps the home life was too restrictive or strict, or you were reprimanded at some time rather severely, or you did not develop adequate defense mechanisms to cope with stress, etc. You are reacting with fear and converting this into a psychosomatic reaction instead of dealing with it. Don’t panic though because if you cooperate a counselor can be of much help to resolve this. In the meantime you must do certain things to build your constitution, both physically and mentally. Mental stability can be achieved by learning a few skills in handling emotions in an appropriate manner. Stress management skills, which have a lot to do with expressing emotions, will need to be a major part of your recovery program. Emotionally you need the help of a counselor and that will help you tremendously to move from anxiety to normal fear. Please persevere and cooperate through all the support you need and you will come through successfully. Develop your body’s health by physical fitness through exercise, good rest (sleep), and a proper diet. Any way what you need to focus on is to do vigorous exercise of the aerobic kind for the heart’s fitness; meditation for the brain’s fitness; sleep for a well rested mind and body; a sound spiritual well being for good confidence and stability; and a diet with lots of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Vigorous exercise, especially of the callisthenic kind, will make your heart, which is a muscle, grow larger; and then your heart will need to beat less often and you will respond to the anxiety with a calmer disposition. If your mind, constitution, and your emotions are in check and fit, you will never be disturbed again. The earlier you tackle this, the easier it is going to be.

Hi lybrate-user, You can consider bleaching or waxing facial hair. Alternatively you can try Chemical peels which can enhance the tone and texture of your skin. For complete removal of facial hair consider, Laser Hair removal.
