Hi I am writing a paper and I have a question does an interruption of the chemical activity in the brain cause epilepsy or just a seizure.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician, Alappuzha
The difference between “epilepsy” and “seizures” Many believe that having a seizure equates to having epilepsy. Although the two terms are often used simultaneously, a seizure (which is a single occurrence) is different than epilepsy (which is defined as two or more unprovoked seizures).Seizures, abnormal movements or behavior due to unusual electrical activity in the brain, are a symptom of epilepsy. But not all people who appear to have seizures have epilepsy, a group of related disorders characterized by a tendency for recurrent seizures. Anything that interrupts the normal connections between nerve cells in the brain can cause a seizure. ... There are many possible causes of epilepsy, including an imbalance of nerve-signaling chemicals called neurotransmitters, tumors, strokes, and brain damage from illness or injury, or some combination of these.

Hello, I am 30 years old and I am dealing with a kind of weak memory problem since some months. The main problem it seems to me is I forget the things which I read and can't keep it in the brain for a longer period, this leads to repetitive reading. I used masturbate some months before after watching videos but latter on came out of it and again focused on the studies but this problem has started then! the brain is feeling as if it's numb. Is this because of that reason. Can you suggest please some solutions for it? So that I can recover my brain activity as normal like before.

Thanks for your query. First of all we have to understand what your background education is and what you are studying. For eg if we take an occupational steno or a mathematicians who knows nash theory and ask him to study medicine books he will not only be aversive to it but also will find it difficult to grasp the knowledge ideas and concepts. A hell router programmer cannot understand cloud paradise programmimg. Not everyone can study all subjects. Only some subject s can be read by all people. Therefore choose a subject that suits your background not your routine. Thats the badic problem. Also you will continue to masturbate as per your background. That is something you can avoid even if you feel you don't know that person much really. The idea here is to rectify your background as per what you are and really want to be and act accordingly. Anythings not possible as far as individuals capabilities go. For more information contact me in private section.

you may attempt the following and see how it works: I know you have probably tried a de-addiction center but he should not have been released if he was not ready. So in this attempt, he may be taken to another de-addiction center that is stricter and will also have a follow-up treatment and AA meetings for him to compulsorily attend. Whatever I suggest, kindly involve or share it with mom or elder family members to make it effective and suffer the least backlashes, if any. Ideally, your brother should want to give up alcohol himself to begin with. If not, it is going to be an uphill task and to the most part impossible. However, you should not be in want of trying. If he is unwilling to seek help, he needs to be admitted to a rehabilitation center for at least 6 months. If not, there are centers who will come and pick him up when he is drunk, when his resistance will be ineffective. This will require mom's or his wife's permission and written consent. After your brother returns from therapy, there will be a lot of follow-ups, both in the house and in his daily activities that must be meticulously adhered to. There is a medicine called Disulfiram, which only the doctor can prescribe, and it is very powerful that even if he attempts to drink a small quantity, he can have serious reactions that may sometimes entail hospitalization. You have to monitor his intake of the medicine and keep a close watch on him. He also has to go for regular counseling for at least three years! Apart from his health, he will also affect the family and all his children will carry genetic factors for alcoholism. If he is into business or working, he will soon not be able to continue and he will go into financial ruin. He will lose all his friends and become ostracized by his society. He will lose his dignity, self-esteem, self-confidence, and become a misfit. He will also lose his sexual capacity, liver function, heart function, kidney etc. These are all symptoms of 'Hitting Rock Bottom' Now it is difficult to give up because he has become addicted to alcohol for some time and has a lot to do. The consumption of Antabuse has to be carefully monitored to see that he not only consumes the medication but is also avoiding alcohol. Ultimately, it is his will power and the support that he receives from the medical fraternity and his close and dear ones. He must also learn to substitute and deal with the oral need, a rigid value system, the script issue, and of course take a look at all the genetic factors to plan a strategy not to get into what is called ‘cross addictions’ i.e. Another form of addiction that may appear alright but is in fact as bad as the primary addiction. The center or hospital and the counselor will advise and guide him on several measures and precautions he will need to take to stay with his resolve. Even after the rehabilitation he must attend AA meetings and continue this support for a long time. The family will also need to attend some sessions and go for Al-anon meetings for their co-dependency issues. He cannot be treated in isolation because the family has gotten used to his drinking and have made some unhealthy adaptations to somehow cope. The children, including you and whoever else is there, will also have to attend meetings to work out their issues because of the father’s habit. In fact, they are all suffering from the Adult Children Of Alcoholics Syndrome (ACOAs), which in effect means that you are genetically predisposed to alcoholism or can have cross addiction problems and that you will have similar traits of the abusing alcoholic but in a milder form. There are special support groups for them all over the world. Should they touch or indulge in alcohol or any addictive substances or behaviors, they could also become full-fledged addicts themselves. Now you should not give up on him but neither should you harass him. Be continuously after him and in the end, you will succeed. His medical condition may warrant a very strict course of action.

Hi Sir, My child is unable to concentrate on study or play for more than a few minutes. Also doesn't listen to anyone.

MD - Homeopathy, BHMS

How much attention a child gives a task also depends on whether he is enjoying himself. Many children struggle when asked to do something they don't want to do. The first time you introduce an activity that is more important to you than to your child, you are testing your creativity and flexibility as a parent and teacher. This is where the struggle lies for many parents, because kids entering school have to do more structured, repetitive, and academic tasks, such as writing their names or sounding out letters. So a little creativity can go a long way in turning something dull into something fun. Instead of insisting that my son write the letter "A" with a pencil in his workbook, I can ask him to write it with chalk, shape it with Play-Doh, or even trace it with paint. To get a child's attention, parents must also give attention. Being in close physical proximity while giving clear and concise instructions helps children focus better on what is being said. The best way to get them to pay attention is to be physically close to the child. Don't shout requests from the kitchen to the living room. Go into the living room, stand in front of your child, make eye contact, be at eye level or touch their shoulder, and say 'I need you to do this now. Parents should also be aware if something is getting in the way of a child paying attention. Is she hungry or tired? To combat hunger or fatigue, give your child a snack before she starts homework or any structured task. A good night's sleep is important as well, so make sure your child is getting enough rest. And many kids need a little break when they come home from school. Children can tune out and stop paying attention when they think a task is too hard for them. They may need instructions broken into small steps. Keep in mind that that giving short reminders is more positive and works better than long-winded explanations, yelling, or guilt tripping. And remember to praise the children's efforts. Research has also shown that exercise can help kids pay attention. FOR MEDICATION CONSULT ONLINE IN PRIVATE.

Hello Doctor, My father has two elder brothers who live in a nearby town with their respective spouses. All of them are senior citizens who have mostly been unhealthy for the last two decades. They regularly consult doctors but the real problem is inactivity and depression. Now, my father has gone to their place to spend some time with them. Apart from taking them to a doctor, what else can my father do to make them happy and healthy? Also, they have frequent tiffs amongst themselves on trivial issues and they call on my father, who is the youngest of all brothers to solve their issues. My father tries to be neutral while suggesting solutions and they follow his suggestions too, but still, somehow they go back to their depressed, anxious about life, health-and-relationships state. Please suggest.

If they are not receptive or cooperative, then they are suffering and probably getting some gratification from it. Your dad has to follow a technbique of detached attachment: that is, he need not take it to heart if they do not follow his advice and clearly says that to them and functions seriously like that. In time, they will get teh message and either will stop playing games or will take him seriously enough and obey his advice. They are older and so they may be more senile if the age difference is too much. Your dad should not take anything to heart and just be there to continue giving them advice but not worried if they follow it or not.

Doctor give me Alprazolam. 0.25 for anxiety disorder. My question how much I take this medicine. Three time a day.

Doctor give me Alprazolam. 0.25 for anxiety disorder. My question how much I take this medicine. Three time a day.
Alprazolam is a good anxiolytic, but carries high dependence potential and serious cognitive and behavioral side effects when taken on a longer run. It is advised not take them more than 14 days. There are other medications e.g SSRI's which can be safely taken for longer duration in anxiety disorde. I am sure the doc who prescribed you this alone is not the apt specialist. Psychiatrist are the right people for you to consult for Anxiety disorder, consult one and get remedy. All the best.

Hello madam. Your symptoms have been considered and investigations are within normal limits. Its better you start having some relaxation excercises or some behavioural therapy, which will help you in getting rid from these complaints. If still persist then consult a psychiatrist.
