Snoring occurs when you can't move your air through nose and throat during sleep. So air vibrate the surrounding tissues and snoring sound. Causes of snoring • overwight or obesity • Age - in middle age muscle of throat muscle decreases. • nasal problem (blocked or stuffy nose) • Alcohol, smoking, medication • Sleep posture These are some methods & instruction for releif in snoring: • Exercise daily and running, jogging. Do long breathing exercise pranayam daily. • Clear nasal passage (nose) before sleeping. You can take steam for 2 - 3 minutes to clear the passage. • Change your sleeping position, elevate your pillow slightly while sleeping. • Sleep on a side not on back. • Avoid smoking and excess drinking alcohol. Do not take sedative medicines. • You can do some throat exercises. Repeat these vowel a, e, i, o, you loudly three minutes few times in a day. If someone have cough more than one week and cold for one week and have pain in throat.

BHMS

Drink plenty of warm fluids. Drinking warm fluids helps to loosen the secretions in your sinuses so that your mucus flows more freely, making you feel better faster. Studies show that drinking warm fluids relieves cold symptoms such as runny nose, cough, sneezing, sore throat, and fatigue.

Had sex in 1st week of august. Periods came right on time around 26th of august and were normal. Took a urine test on 4th of September, which came negative for pregnancy. But I have been feeling dizzy ,light headed and fatigued all the time since last month. There is no feeling of nausea. Even consulted an ENT doctor for diagnosis ,but nothing came up. Also there is problem in digesting food and m passing gas after every meal. Should I get a blood test done for HCG or consult some other specialist?

Diploma in Anesthesia, MBBS
General Physician, Hyderabad
As you had your regular normal period, you can completely rule out pregnancy. The light headedness, uneasiness etc. Could be due to Hyperacidity. As you are passing gasses, it indicates amoebic infection, which need to be treated along with medicines for indigestion and hyperacidity which will set right your discomfort. Fatigue could also be due to stress you are having due to the thought of pregnancy. If it gives any comfort, get the hcg test done which will be confirmatory regarding pregnancy or otherwise, which will give you peace of mind and the acidity etc. Will come down if your stress levels are low. But you definetely to take medicines course for amoebiasis and stop eating outside food, if you are forced to take outside food, take only hot stuff and avoid junk food. All the best.

I want to know, how can I overcome from snoring. My age is 27. I read a lot of articles and tried some methods specially laying side by side but it's not working.

BAMS
Ayurveda, Bangalore
Hi, please follow these tips to stop snoring: - reduce your weight if you are obese. - perform pranayama (breathing exercises) everyday. - quit smoking which irritates the mucosal layer of the nose and throat and causes blockage and results in snoring. - quit alcohol and sedatives which relax the throat muscles and results in snoring. - sleep on sides instead on back. - elevate the head by using a thick pillow which eases the breathing. - clear the nose before going to bed. - establish regular sleep pattern. - keep the bedroom air moist by using humidifier; as dry air irritates the mucosal membrane in the nose and throat. - perform throat exercises like repeating the vowels a, e, i, o, you loudly for 2-3 mins few times a day or keeping the tongue behind the teeth and moving it backwards - 3-4 times a day. - anti snoring appliances can also be used.

Hello lybrate-user, No need to panic in such situations. Most of the time ruptured ear drums remains unsymptomatic and heal. I would suggest you get an otoscopy done. Visit an ENT specialist. Here a some tips, 1) Don't let water enter your ear. 2) If you get cold and fever, consult a doctor asap. 3) Use cotton ball in ruptured ear drum ear while taking bath. 4) Do not put oil or any drops in that ear. Ya I consult my doc they check with there instrument. There was a tear. He told me that always put cotton in ear. Now its paining i am taking medicines with vitamin antibiotic and painkiller. But how much time it will take to get recover? Please advice..

MS - ENT, DNB (ENT), Fellow of Academy of General Education (FAGE), MBA (Healthcare), DIPLOMA IN LAWS APPLICABLE IN MEDICAL PRACTICE, MNAMS ENT

I think you are having perforated ear drum. Treatment depends on how big is the tear. If its small<20%, there is a chance it will heal by itself, if you take proper precautions. But if the tear/perforation is bigger, you will require repair of ear drum (tympanoplasty).

I am male 19 year old and I am tense with ringing in my ears!(tinnitus)can you help me out with this! also some methods to stay positive ?

MS , MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Bangalore
Ringing in the ears could be because of many reasons including ear wax, sensorineural deafness, rarely a tumor of the nerve. It could be even giving too much attention to the sound which is normally present due to cochlear microphonics and gets accentuated because of being too conscious about it.

Hello Ms. Lybrate-user. What you are describing may be an ear infection or may be parotitis or even mumps- an infection that raises the earlobe due to swelling of the cheek. You can look up mumps on the internet and consult an ent doctor for ear infection and a general physician for mumps. Hope this helps. Warm regards,
