Mr. lybrate-user. You are lucky In spite of enlarged prostate you don't have any urinary problem. I suggest you to be careful in winter season as prostatic engorgement increases and some people who are having prostatism I mean who have urinary problems may increase a bit so take bath with Warm water don't move outside in cold days and forget about any treatment till you have symptoms. For blockages in coronary vessels Take yoga classes and do it regularly it will also improve. See your physician if you have blood pressure or diabetes.

Steps For Maintaining a Healthy Kidney

Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai

Steps for maintaining a healthy kidney

Kidney performs the central role in a human body. It is as important as heart or lungs. Many organs of the body are dependent on kidney to function healthily. Kidney removes toxic waste and excessive fluid from blood.

Primary risk for kidney disease includes factors like high diabetes, high blood pressure, family history, heart disease etc. Obesity; autoimmune diseases; urinary tract infections and systemic infections are the secondary risks.

Kidney damage occurs in stages and in most of the cases, body does not show any kind of symptom till kidney is damaged up to 90%.

Steps for maintaining a healthy kidney
1. Keep a control on the blood pressure and take every preventive measures against its increased level.
2. For people suffering from diabetes, have a control on your glucose level.
3. Keep the cholesterol level in the appropriate range.
4. If on medications, take the prescriptions on time.
5. If you have a high salt intake, cut-off the intake and aim for less than 1, 500 milligram sodium per day.
6. Maintain a healthy fluid intake
7. Eat healthily and keep your weight in check.
8. Have a limit on your alcohol intake
9. Exercise should be a compulsory part of daily routine
10. For those who are overweight; need to work on reducing the weight
11. Smokers need to quit it slowly and gradually as smoking would led to serious kidney damages
12. Do not take over-the-counter pills on a regular basis.
13. Check your kidney function if you have one or more of the ‘high risk’ factors consult your doctor.

Hello Dr. I am suffering from pruritus ani. It's from 2 months please tell me some solution to get rid of this problem.

Erasmus Mundus Master in Adapted Physical Activity, MPT, BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Chennai
Pruritus ani is the irritation of the skin at the exit of the rectum, known as the anus, causing the desire to scratch. The intensity of anal itching increases from moisture, pressure, and rubbing caused by clothing and sitting. Add some oatmeal to your bath water. Oatmeal has naturally soothing qualities that help soften and heal irritated and itchy skin. Promote tissue healing with Aloe Vera. Keep the anal area clean. Keep the anal area dry. Eat plenty of fiber. Wash undergarments with a mild soap.

I have get surgery for anal fissure 5 months back after surgery I can't able to squeeze my anal as Before when I ask to doctor about this he is saying why you want to squeeze I told him not loose gas or stool in office he said no need to squeeze I am so much embarrassed due to fart I want to know there is any chance to repair sphincter as original.

FMAS, MS
General Surgeon, Gandhinagar
Dear lybrate-user, hi Welcome to Lybrate.com I have evaluated your query thoroughly. There are not satisfactory results of sphincter repair as chances of stricture or stenosis are more. Guidelines for better recovery - Pelvic floor exercises (assuming you have to pass latrine and you have to withheld it when you are travelling in a bus by applying pressure over the anal opening) each session for 40 - 60 seconds even when you are working, say 200 - 300 times a day how many more times you can do.- Maintain diet to get proper soft, smooth evacuations. Hope this may help you. Wishing you fine recovery. Regards dear take care.
