Throat problem can happen due to weather changes, exposure to cold air or rain and certain sour food. 1. Mix some salt in warm water and do gargling. 2. Keep a clove and slowly chew it. 3. Drinking water frequently will reduce congestion if any. 4. Avoid fried and oily foods. We have good treatment in homoeopathy for your problem without adverse effects.

My brother says. That I am making snoring during sleep from 1 month. Is there any treatment to get rid from this.

BAMS
Ayurveda, Bangalore
Hi, please follow these tips to stop snoring: - reduce your weight if you are obese. - perform pranayama (breathing exercises) everyday. - quit smoking which irritates the mucosal layer of the nose and throat and causes blockage and results in snoring. - quit alcohol and sedatives which relax the throat muscles and results in snoring. - sleep on sides instead on back. - elevate the head by using a thick pillow which eases the breathing. - clear the nose before going to bed. - establish regular sleep pattern. - keep the bedroom air moist by using humidifier; as dry air irritates the mucosal membrane in thenose and throat. - perform throat exercises like repeating the vowels a, e, i, o, you loudly for 2-3 mins few times a day or keeping the tongue behind the teeth and moving it backwards - 3-4 times a day. - anti snoring appliances can also be used.

Last week week I clear dust of my ear I feel some pain and notice some blood on cotton is it fearable? What should I do?
Dear sir blood on cotton means that some part of your external ear has been injured this could mean that your tympanic membrane (ear drum) may be the one that is injured so I suggest that you visit an ent specialist at the earliest please don't delay prevention of complications is much easier than trying to cure them later.

Sinusitis

What is sinusitis? — Sinusitis is a condition that can cause a stuffy nose, pain in the face, and yellow or green discharge (mucus) from the nose. The sinuses are hollow areas in the bones of the face. They have a thin lining that normally makes a small amount of mucus. When this lining gets infected, it swells and makes extra mucus. This causes symptoms.

Sinusitis can occur when a person gets sick with a cold. The germs causing the cold can also infect the sinuses. Many times, a person feels like his or her cold is getting better. But then he or she gets sinusitis and begins to feel sick again.

What are the symptoms of sinusitis? — Common symptoms of sinusitis include:

Stuffy or blocked noseThick yellow or green discharge from the nosePain in the teethPain or pressure in the face – This often feels worse when a person bends forward.

People with sinusitis can also have other symptoms that include:

FeverCoughTrouble smellingEar pressure or fullnessHeadacheBad breathFeeling tired

Most of the time, symptoms start to improve in 7 to 10 days.

Should I see a doctor or nurse? — See your doctor or nurse if your symptoms last more than 7 days, or if your symptoms get better at first but then get worse.

Sometimes, sinusitis can lead to serious problems. See your doctor or nurse right away (do not wait 7 days) if you have:

Fever higher than 102.5°F (39.2°C)Sudden and severe pain in the face and headTrouble seeing or seeing doubleTrouble thinking clearlySwelling or redness around 1 or both eyesTrouble breathing or a stiff neck

Is there anything I can do on my own to feel better? — Yes. To reduce your symptoms, you can:

Take an over-the-counter pain reliever to reduce the painRinse your nose and sinuses with salt water a few times a day – Ask your doctor or nurse about the best way to do this.Use a decongestant nose spray – These sprays are sold in a pharmacy. But do not use decongestant nose sprays for more than 2 to 3 days in a row. Using them more than 3 days in a row can make symptoms worse.

You should NOT take an antihistamine for sinusitis. Common antihistamines include diphenhydramine(sample brand name: Benadryl), chlorpheniramine(sample brand name: Chlor-Trimeton), loratadine(sample brand name: Claritin), and cetirizine (sample brand name: Zyrtec). They can treat allergies, but not sinus infections, and could increase your discomfort by drying the lining of your nose and sinuses, or making you tired.

Your doctor might also prescribe a steroid nose spray to reduce the swelling in your nose. (Steroid nose sprays do not contain the same steroids that athletes take to build muscle.)

How is sinusitis treated? — Most of the time, sinusitis does not need to be treated with antibiotic medicines. This is because most sinusitis is caused by viruses — not bacteria — and antibiotics do not kill viruses. Many people get over sinus infections without antibiotics.

Some people with sinusitis do need treatment with antibiotics. If your symptoms have not improved after 7 to 10 days, ask your doctor if you should take antibiotics. Your doctor might recommend that you wait 1 more week to see if your symptoms improve. But if you have symptoms such as a fever or a lot of pain, he or she might prescribe antibiotics. It is important to follow your doctor’s instructions about taking your antibiotics.

What if my symptoms do not get better? — If your symptoms do not get better, talk with your doctor or nurse. He or she might order tests to figure out why you still have symptoms. These can include:

CT scan or other imaging tests – Imaging tests create pictures of the inside of the body.A test to look inside the sinuses – For this test, a doctor puts a thin tube with a camera on the end into the nose and up into the sinuses.

Some people get a lot of sinus infections or have symptoms that last at least 3 months. These people can have a different type of sinusitis called “chronic sinusitis.” Chronic sinusitis can be caused by different things. For example, some people have growths in their nose or sinuses that are called “polyps.” Other people have allergies that cause their symptoms.

Chronic sinusitis can be treated in different ways. If you have chronic sinusitis, talk with your doctor about which treatments are right for you.

Otrivin can be harmful if used for long periods. Get a NCCT PNS done to evaluate the extent and severity of sinusitis. You may have to use intranasal steroids and anti allergics to get rid of your symptoms

Hi, you may be having a persistent sore throat owing to chronic pharyngitis or other allergic conditions. While it is advisable that a doctor clinically examines your throat, I would recommend the following - (a) you need to have a healthy and balanced diet devoid of excessive spices, salt, oil etc all and have a regularized lifestyle with due emphasis on relaxation/ de-stressing. Instead focus on fresh fruits/ leafy greens. (b) in order that you do not get acidity, it is advisable that you avoid tomato based products, citrus fruits/ juices, greasy, fatty or fried and hot foods, sweets, alcohol, caffeinated beverages, tea (with milk), deep fried flesh foods, peppermint etc. Consume flesh foods, if any, in moderation. (c) avoid sticky foods that create more of mucous leading to congestion in throat. Yellow banana is best avoided. (d) take plenty of water daily and stay hydrated. (e) regularize life style, reduce stress/ strain. (f) protect yourself from intense heat/ cold air. (g) do not take extremely hot/ cold/ spicy/ sour drinks as well as foods. (h) warm saline gargling 2 - 3 times daily. (i) gargle made of tulsi, cinnamon, turmeric or fenugreek seeds and honey are also beneficial unless you are allergic to any of these. (j) avoid overcrowded places. Hope this helps. Take care and all the very best.

Hello, Few lifestyle changes can help you in controlling and preventing the high blood pressure, even if you're taking blood pressure medication. Eat healthy foods. Consume more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish and low-fat dairy foods. Eat less saturated fat and trans fat. Decrease the salt in your diet. So, avoid eating processed foods, such as canned soups or frozen dinners which contains extra salt in it. Keeping a healthy weight, or losing weight if you're overweight or obese, can help you control your high blood pressure and lower your risk of related health problems. Increase physical activity which can help lowering your blood pressure, manage stress, reduce your risk of several health problems. Get indulged in regular exercising (if your doctor allows you). Limit alcohol. Even if you're healthy, alcohol can raise your blood pressure. If you choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Don't smoke. Tobacco injures blood vessel walls and speeds up the process of hardening of the arteries. Reduce stress as much as possible. Practice healthy coping techniques, such as muscle relaxation, deep breathing or meditation. Getting regular physical activity and plenty of sleep can help, too. Monitor your blood pressure at home. Medication: Take Schwabe’s Essentia Aurea/ thrice daily which is a cardio-tonic which helps in maintaining blood pressure, improves muscle tone of the heart and narrowing of blood vessels.
