How to control uric acid? I feel pain in joint and heel.

There are many lifestyle and dietary guidelines that can be followed to protect against future flares or prevent gout or uric acid problems from occurring in the first instance: maintain a high fluid intake (2-4 liters a day) avoid alcohol eat a balanced diet limit fish, meat and poultry intake. If attempting to lose weight, avoid low-carbohydrate diets. If carbohydrate intake is insufficient, the body is unable to burn its own fat properly, releasing substances called ketones into the bloodstream. This results in a condition called ketosis that can increase the level of uric acid in the blood. It is most important to avoid foods that are high in purines, to ensure that the levels of uric acid in the blood do not get too high. Here is a list of high-purine foods to be wary of: beef kidneys brains dried beans and peas liver mackerel yeast fermented products (breads etc) mushrooms lose some weight by walking or other exercise, avoid meats and get always be on a prescribed diet as prescribed by a registered dietitian. I am a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator and a doctor.

How to differentiate whether low sugar or high sugar? What precautions to be taken? What are the remedies?
One has to check blood sugar to find out if he or she has low or high sugar. If a person has been diagnosed to have diabetes, means his blood sugar is higher than normal. High blood sugar can only be detected by testing the blood, because it hardly produces any specific symptoms unless the levels have really gone very high. Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can occur in a patient on treatment for diabetes, who may had not taken adequate food, or there may be delay in taking food after taking tablets or insulin or dose may have been high. This causes drop in blood sugar. When it goes below 6o to 70 mg/100 ml, the person starts feeling uneasy, may get blurred vision, feeling of weakness, shivering, sweating, giddiness, hungry and at times black out. For treating high sugar one has to take anti diabetes drugs. To treat hypoglycemia one should be given glucose immediately.

What I have to stop eating if my sugar level is becoming high? Please advise.
Diabetes affects all organs in the body eyes, kidneys, nerves, reproductive system all are affected, in fact, from toe to hair. For diabetic control, patient and doctor should be n constant touch for regular follow up and advice. It is not as easy task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (self-monitoring of blood glucose? smbg). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of fasting sugar (fbs) and 2 hours after food (ppbs) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For sugar control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me privately with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance.

I checked my sugar with glucometer it's showing 95. Is it alright?

95 is a normal blood sugar otherwise. But you need to check it in the lab. Glucometer is less reliable for diagnosing diabetes, though its a very good device for monitoring.

Is Miller lite beer 2 bottles per day good/bad for a type 2 diabetic. And what would be its effect on human body.

Is Miller lite beer 2 bottles per day good/bad for a type 2 diabetic. And what would be its effect on human body.
dear friend A pint of lite beer contains 128 Calories, since these are empty calories which mean they cannot be stored they will take precedence to be metabolized and sugar will be kept on hold, in this manner and along with beer the snacks one consumes adds to the calorie load and causes the calorie imbalance, per say they do not have any direct effect, if you are taking your medications regularly, and keeping your blood sugar under control , your Hb A1 C is in range, food that you take logically does not matter, but if any of the parameters i mentioned afore are off then it will matter, my suggestion will be keep your calorie intake under check and be regular with your followup and medication you can indulge in a beer or to you need any further clarification and want to discuss please ask a private consult where we are connected directly and can discuss more freely

Mr. Lybrate-user, tingling and numbness these are symptoms of diabetes causing peripheral neuropathy, not because of diabetes treatment. If the symptom is trouble some then get tested for presence of neuropathy and if need be take some drugs for that. Thanks for the question.

Lybrate-user, it is good to know that hypothyroidism is in good control. Usually all symptoms like tiredness and fatigue disappear on good control of hypothyroidism. Since you still feel tired and less energetic, it better to get hb checked. Get a cbc done, which will give full blood cell details. Plus take healthy diet and exercise daily for 1 hour. Also do pranayam. Most often tiredness is more a mental problem. Once you start exercising you will start feeling better. For back pain to there are specific exercises to strengthen those muscles, I am sure once you start doing it you will feel better. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-user, diabetes at present can only be controlled by medications and exercise plus diet control there is no cure at least for now. May be for next few decades. Medication for a diabetes patient depends on blood sugar levels, type of dm, severity and weight. It has to be individualised. No common treatment can be suggested.
