How To Care Of A Premature Baby?

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery

How To Care Of A Premature Baby?

Babies are fragile and need special care. In case of babies that are born prematurely, the amount of attention needed increases many fold and parents need to be extra careful and attentive. A baby born before 37 weeks of pregnancy is said to be a premature baby. The earlier the baby is born, the higher the risk of complications.

Most premature babies spend the first few days after birth in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). This is because they may have trouble breathing and may need help maintaining body heat. Though you may feel helpless watching your baby, it is important to spend time with your baby while he or she is in the NICU. Talk to the baby and touch him or her. As soon as your doctor allows, carry your baby while allowing him or her to have maximum skin to skin contact.

It is important to breastfeed a premature baby. Breast milk is the richest source of nutrition for your baby and is easy to digest. It is also rich in antibodies that help boost a bay’s immunity and protect them against a number of infections. If you cannot feed your baby directly, pump your breast milk and store it in sterilised bottles to be given to the baby. Premature babies can get critically ill very fast. To prevent this from happening, it is important to build a good rapport with your baby’s doctors and keep a close eye on your baby. Maintaining a journal can help you recognise changes in your baby’s development. Watch out for subtle signs that your baby could be falling ill.

Some of these signs are:

  1. A distended abdomen
  2. Dry the diapers frequently
  3. Frequent vomiting
  4. Blood in the stool
  5. Temperature instability
  6. Lethargy and unresponsiveness
  7. Change in breathing

In some cases, the mother may be discharged before the baby. This may seem very difficult, but does not need to limit your time with your baby. Caring for a premature baby is tough and hence use the time away to rest and recuperate. Remember that your baby is in safe hands and do not let yourself get too stressed.

Your baby will be ready to come home once he or she can breathe on their own and is able to maintain a steady body temperature. Your doctor may also wait until the baby can be breastfed and begins gaining weight before discharging him or her. Once the baby is home, do not attempt to be the sole caregiver but involve your family in building a team of caregivers. This will keep you from getting burnt out and will ensure that your baby is constantly monitored.

Acute Bronchitis In Kids - Conditions Homeopathy Can Cure Effectively!

Bronchitis occurs when the bronchial tubes become swollen due to an ailment or any kind of infection. These tubes are a part of the respiratory system and usually join the lungs. There are two types of bronchitis - acute bronchitis and chronic bronchitis. A virus or bacterium usually causes acute bronchitis. It shows up after a person has had a respiratory disease. The most common symptoms of this disease usually show up when a child has flu or cold. A blazing throat, a feeling of being sick and mucus draining from the sinuses usually describe the disease.

Homeopathy is a very effective treatment for bronchitis. In fact, it is the most effective treatment. Homeopathy has been successful in treating some exceptionally extreme cases of bronchitis. It functions admirably in both acute and chronic bronchitis. Here are a few conditions of acute bronchitis for kids that can be cured effectively through Homeopathy:

  1. Homeopathic medicines can do wonders for a person experiences increased sensitivity to cold. Chilly air and exposure to the cold in any form is impossible to be tolerated by the patient. Homeopathy energizes cough quickly. It cures situations where even if a single part of the body is exposed to the cold like a hand or a foot, cough begins immediately.

  2. Homeopathy is also helpful in situations where a person feels extremely thirsty, yet may only have a few sips at a time. The mucous layers and the mouth become extremely dry. Even the cough is very dry in such cases. There is a pain in the abdomen and headache while coughing.

  3. Homeopathy proves great in situations where the patient coughs up a lot of greenish or yellowish mucous. Cough is more irritable while resting and the person cannot rest or sleep because of the same. The patient is usually not at all thirsty in this situation.

  4. Homeopathic medicines are the best for symptoms that include a feeling of weakness along with other signs of bronchitis. Extreme wheezing and cough increase after nighttime and makes it difficult for the person to sleep. Along with extreme weakness, restlessness may also occur. The patient feels parched and frequently drinks little quantities of water.

  5. Homeopathic medicines are also useful when there is a lot of mucous in the abdomen and chest. Despite the fact that there is a lot of mucous in the abdomen, little is disposed off. Cough in this situation is aggravated while a person eats. However, Homeopathic medicines tend to find relief from the same. Patients usually find it very hard to bring out the mucous in this situation.

Hygiene Tips School Students And Preschoolers Must Follow!

A good personal hygiene for students is extremely important as it leads to a boost in their self-esteem and confidence. They can come in exposure with millions of germs throughout their day. Hence, students should keep themselves clean in order to stay healthy. A personal hygiene for school students include bathing, brushing their teeth, washing their hands and many more. Parents are responsible for teaching hygiene to preschoolers to prevent them from illness.

School students and preschoolers should begin their day by brushing teeth and gums for at least 2 minutes. Also, they should bath regularly, ensuring that they wash all of their body parts such as neck, belly, armpits, knees, back and genital areas. Apart from this, students should be taught about how hand-washing is a must. By washing hands frequently, children eliminate the risk of catching infections. Ask your child to wash their hands before and after meal, after using washroom, sneezing, coughing or after being near an ill person. It should be ensured that preschooler’s hands are also wiped after such activities.

Grooming fingernails is also a part of personal hygiene for students. Their nails should be trimmed on regular basis because bacteria can live in child nails which can be transferred to their mouth or eyes. You must also encourage your child to wash their nails during a shower. School students should have a habit of keeping a handkerchief along with themselves. They should be taught to cover their face with while sneezing or coughing. A handkerchief can be regarded as your child’s best friend in school. Thus, personal hygiene for school students should include a handkerchief.

It is responsibility of a mother, teaching hygiene to preschoolers to keep her child’s toy clean. Your child can put a toy in mouth and hence you should try keeping it germ free. Make sure you wash their favourite toys regularly. School’s furniture should also be free of bugs and classrooms should be cleaned daily to provide complete personal hygiene for school students. Your child’s clothes and shoes have to be clean and tidy. Wash their school uniforms daily and ask them to change their innerwear daily. Their school uniforms should be air dried so that it does not bear any unpleasant smell. If students don’t wear clean shoes, they might have sweaty foot or any other fungal infection. They should wear cotton lined socks instead of the synthetic fiber to school.

Food hygiene is another important aspect of kids hygiene. Tiffin boxes of school students should be cleaned properly and make sure they carry themselves with a bottle of clean water to school. They should consume fresh home-cooked food instead of munching on snacks in school canteen. Clean their school bags too, once in a while to maintain the hygiene level.

Good hygiene is directly proportional to good health and inversely proportional to illness while poor hygiene is responsible for body odour, greasy skin and some serious issues like stomach pain and common cold. Parents and teachers can play a major role to bring about this change in a student life. Mothers should be very cautious about hygiene of preschoolers. Hence, a child of any age should maintain good hygiene habits otherwise they could suffer from low self esteem during adulthood.

However, It is not possible for parents and teachers to keep an eye on students every time. Thus, they should themselves be aware about how important personal hygiene is for their overall personality development. Remind your child about various hygiene practices until they begin to follow the routine on their own.

Mindfulness - How Does It Help In Your Child's Growth?

Mindfulness - How Does It Help In Your Child's Growth?

In today’s life, we all work, we all think and we all are busy. If we talk about children, they do not get time for themselves as they are occupied with school works, friends, games and other stuffs. Aren’t this your, as a parent, job to teach your child mindfulness? Mindfulness activities for kids and emotional wellness activities are very important for their growth as it releases stress, and also relaxes mind and body.

Though children do not have much stress in comparison to adults but they are so busy in other different types of work that they forget to connect themselves about how they are feeling. Mindfulness is all about to live the present moment, so let’s help our kids acknowledge their emotions and needs with these mindfulness activities for kids.

Breathing Exercise: Let your child sit and feel his own breath. But, it is not an easy task for you to make your kid to stay idle, so you can try playing a soft music, create a calm and peaceful space and make your child indulge in some kind of fun activity. If this doesn’t work, ask your kid to pretend that they are smelling something yummy as they breathe and ask them to blow out a candle by exhaling. Ask them to try this for at least 10 times.

Nature's walk: Take your child for a walk close to nature. This will not only provide peace but also help them to learn to be in present. Ask your child to pick a few things from nature. When they find it, ask them to touch it, feel it and smell it. This creativity will help your child to live in present. Apart from this, these walks will also help in strengthening the parent-child bond.

Mindful posing: One of the activity for mindfulness is to involve your child in making funny poses. Ask your child to make pose of his/her favorite super man/woman. While making different poses, they will stretch out their arms, hip and neck. This will help them feel strong, brave and happy.

Now, here comes emotional wellness, which is a major part of our life. This is something more than managing your emotions and feelings. If we describe what is emotional wellness in a sentence, it is an attitude which reflects our lifestyle.

Here we have given some points which will help to maintain emotional wellness activities in your kids:

Learn to manage stress: Stress broke person emotionally and physically, both. Everyone should learn to deal with stress by some or other kind of activity. To keep your stress at bay, you must definitely take an eight-hour sleep, also you can try different workout which will help in relaxing your mind. Sometimes soothing music can also help you keep calm.

Learn balancing: Everyday we work in different directions which leads to balance hard. If we think deeply, this somewhere affects our daily life. We sometimes get irritated and confused, only because we fail in balancing our time schedule. Try to be attentive to your responsibilities. Set your priorities and focus on achieving your goal. Remember to reserve time for your own.

Be positive: When we are social, we go through both negative and positive feelings. When you feel that you are being caught by negative feelings, try to redirect yourself on the positive part of your situation. Being positive in life is very important for ourselves. Keep your surrounded by positive people and vibes as much as possible. No matter if you are with someone who is providing negative vibes, try to ignore and mentally prepare yourself for possible negativity. This will not affect your mind and also not upset your mood.

Learn accepting your mistakes: No one is perfect in his/her life. Everyone make mistakes if they are struggling. But, a few of them happily accept it and others ignore. What makes a person different from others is when he/she accepts his/her mistake. The quicker you address your mistake, the sooner you learn it which is very important if you need success in your life. This also helps you to lead a stressless life.

Express your feelings: Sharing your feelings with someone always makes you feel better; no matter whether he is your friend, senior or parents. Always try to spend your tough time with someone you trust. If you start hiding your feelings in your heart, this will lead to depression which will worsen your life. It is better to express before it’s too late.

My 2 year old son is having flu and coughing every time what medicine do I give him?

My 2 year old son is having flu and coughing every time what medicine do I give him?
What ever is possible from the following list, do that 1. Do saline gargles daily. 2. Whenever possible do steam inhalation also. 4. Drink hot liquids --hot liquids relieve nasal congestion, prevent dehydration, and soothe the uncomfortably inflamed membranes that line your nose and throat. 5. Sleep with an extra pillow under your head-- elevating your head will help relieve congested nasal passages. If the angle is too awkward, try placing the pillows between the mattress and the box springs to create a more gradual slope. 6. Treat that stuffy nose with warm salt water-- salt-water rinsing helps break nasal congestion, while also removing virus particles and bacteria from your nose. 7. Blow your nose often (and the right way)-- it's important to blow your nose regularly when you have a cold rather than sniffling mucus back into your head. But when you blow hard, pressure can carry germ-carrying phlegm back into your ear passages, causing earache. The best way to blow your nose: press a finger over one nostril while you blow gently to clear the other. Homeopathic treatment has very encouraging results and gives relief in long term ask for consultation with detailed information so that I can help you better.
