How to Have Better Sex With Diabetes

MBBS

Ask Free Question

Diabetes has always been a mysterious home to many diseases. It reduces quality of erection. However, there are ways you can enhance your love life, by involving some strategies, such as:

  1. Approach sex like exercise: This helps prevent dreaded blood sugar lows.If you use insulin, check your blood sugar before sex and have a snack if it's low.
  2. Just go with it: Planning can be helpful, but don't sweat it if sex just happens. There's no reason not to grab the opportunity if it pops up just because you haven't followed your diabetes exercise routine.
  3. Use a lubricant: If you are a woman with vaginal dryness, a vaginal lubricant can make sex feel better. Ask your doctor about using one regularly, not just during sex.
  4. Prepare a sex arsenal kit: Keep anything you might need for optimal sex next to the bed.If you're a woman, you may want to have a lubricant in your kit. Feel free to include massage oils.
  5. Get a room: Treat yourself and your partner to a night at a local hotel. It's a great libido enhancer.Plan it days in advance. It's planning, but it's planning something fun.
  6. Get in some practice: If you are a man who uses a device like a vacuum pump or constriction band to help with erectile dysfunction, take time to learn how to use it right.
  7. Creativity is sexy: If you have trouble getting aroused, stretch beyond your go-to bedroom moves. Try out new positions. Explore different ways to climax. Most women don't climax from intercourse alone, anyway. Some men can have an orgasm from prostate stimulation.
  8. Limit alcohol: A little alcohol may boost your desire, but drinking can also make your blood sugar level drop quickly. If you drink alcohol, you might sip some champagne during intimacy.
  9. Get help for emotional issues: Depression, anxiety, poor self-image, and other emotional concerns can hurt your sex life. And if you have a partner, sex troubles can put stress on your relationship.
  10. Relax: How you feel about your diabetes can set the stage for sex. With diabetes, you have to expect the unexpected.

You can think of a formula in your mind for better, increased, steamier sex life.

Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex - 8 Symptoms that You Must Know About

MBBS, MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy
Dermatologist
Ask Free Question

Epidermolysis bullosa simplex is a genetic disorder that results in the skin turning fragile and blister prone. Any small injury or friction created due to rubbing of the skin might lead to blister formation. In some cases, blisters may occur inside the mouth and on the cheeks.Normally, the cause of the disease is linked to defective genes. The condition is usually inherited and the symptoms start flaring in childhood. In some cases, the symptoms start during the early twenties.

The symptoms of this disease are:

1. Deformities in the nails of the toes and fingers

2. Blisters in the internal organs such as esophagus and vocal chords

3. Formation of blisters on the skin of the feet and the hands

4. Loss of hair and scarring of the scalp

5. Thickening of the skin on the palms and soles of the feet

6. Formation of white skin bumps on the skin

7. You may experience various dental problems such as tooth decay

8. You may have problems in swallowing food

Epidermolysis bullosa can be classified into:

1. Junctional epidermolysis bullosa: This is a severe form of epidermolysis bullosa that usually develops during birth. The condition is characterized by hoarse and unusual crying sounds and scarring in the vocal chords. The genes that attach the epidermis to the basement become defective and thus, cause blister formation.

2. Kindler syndrome: This type is characterized by blister formation across all layers of the skin, but its symptoms tend to disappear with time. This condition is known to cause discoloration of the skin when exposed to the sun.

3. Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa: This is caused by a defect in the gene that causes problems in collagen formation. This results in complications as the skin doesn't join properly.

Risks associated with it

This disease may cause various complications such as sepsis, skin infection, anemia, constipation and dehydration. An infant, who has a severe form of epidermolysis bullosa, may not be able to survive due to widespread blistering and infections that may drain all the body fluids out drastically.

Scarlet Fever - 10 Signs Your Child is Suffering from It

Ask Free Question

Scarlet fever is a kind of bacterial illness that commonly develops in children who are suffering from a strep throat (scratchy and sore throat caused by a bacterial infection). The bacteria streptococcus produces a poison or toxin that causes rashes, colored a bright red, all over the body. The name “scarlet fever” is derived from these red rashes. Scarlet fever is common among children aged between 5 and 15. Previously, it used to be a serious and common childhood illness, but is relatively rare today.

Factors behind it

The main cause of scarlet fever is the bacteria streptococcus, which thrive in your nasal passages and mouth. The bacterial infection is transmitted when an infected person coughs or sneezes; later the airborne droplets end up affecting a healthy person in the vicinity. Scarlet fever is extremely contagious. Coming in contact with an infected person, and drinking or eating from an infected person’s glass or plate, can spread the infection.

Signs and symptoms

The bright red rash is the most obvious sign of this disease. The other common scarlet fever symptoms include:

  1. Fever that measures above 101 degree Fahrenheit
  2. Chills
  3. Headaches
  4. A sore, red throat with yellow and white patches
  5. Swollen tonsils
  6. Flushed face
  7. Vomiting and nausea
  8. Enlarged glands on the back of your neck
  9. Skin around the lips turns pale
  10. Strawberry tongue (a white tongue with red spots dotting its surface)

Treatment

The usual treatment for scarlet fever is antibiotics. The antibiotics assist your immune system fight the infection-causing bacteria. If your child is infected, make sure he/she finishes the entire antibiotics course. This will prevent a relapse of the infection. You can also use over-the-counter medicines such as ibuprofen or aspirin to treat the fever. Medication to treat a sore throat can also be prescribed by the doctor. Other easy remedies include:

  1. Gargling with salted water
  2. Drinking lots of water to prevent dehydration
  3. Consuming plenty of warm soup, ice cream or popsicles
  4. Using an air humidifier to reduce the pain and severity of a sore throat

Scarlet fever should be treated immediately. If you leave it untreated it might cause the following complications in the long run:

  1. Rheumatic fever
  2. Kidney disease
  3. Ear infections
  4. Skin infections
  5. Throat infections
  6. Pneumonia
  7. Arthritis

Chlamydia - Reasons Why it Affects Women

MBBS, DGO, MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MRCOG

Ask Free Question

Chlamydia is one of the more common STDs among both the genders. It spreads through physical intimate contact; it can develop irrespective of one’s age, however, is most commonly observed among young women. In women, the symptoms include yellow or green colored odorous vaginal discharge, painful urination and a burning sensation or itching around the vagina, lower abdominal ache, painful menstruation or bleeding during sexual intercourse. Now if the infection reaches up to the fallopian tubes, it causes a disease known as Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). In case of unprotected oral sex, the bacteria causing this disorder, ‘Chlamydia Trachomatis’ might infect the throat as well.

Reasons Behind Chlamydia in Women:

  1. Being a sexually transmitted disease, Chlamydia gets passed on from one person to another through unprotected sex or through the contact with the genitals of an infected person.

  2. In some cases, infants are likely to inherit the disease from their mothers during birth, if she is already affected with it. Hence pre-natal checkups are essential for detection.

  3. Although very rare, this infection can affect the eyes as well via oral or genital contact.

How To Treat Chlamydia?

  1. The infection can be resolved within a couple of weeks with the use of antibiotics. Once it is diagnosed, the treatment course should start immediately. The widely used antibiotics for curing chlamydia are azithromycin and doxycycline. If you are breastfeeding or pregnant or suffering from any allergy, your doctor might prescribe erythromycin or amoxicillin. For severe complications, a longer course is administered. The treatment may induce mild side-effects in the form of vaginal thrush, sickness, diarrhea and tummy pain.

  2. Try and avoid any sort of sexual activity (intercourse or other activities) till the treatment is completely done and none of you show any other sign of the infection.

Gastrointestinal Perforation - 8 Diseases that Can Cause it

Gastroenterologist
Ask Free Question

When a hole develops in the wall of the gallbladder, rectum, large bowel, small intestine, stomach or oesophagus, it is called gastrointestinal perforation. It is a medical emergency that needs urgent medical attention.

Symptoms of gastrointestinal perforation (GP) usually include
1. Serious stomach pain
2. Chills
3. Fever
4. Nausea
5. Vomiting

Peritonitis (abdominal cavity lining inflammation) can also accompany the abovementioned condition. So in addition to the above symptoms, you may also experience peritonitis symptoms such as:
1. Fatigue
2. Passing less gas, urine or stools
3. Breathing difficulties
4. Fast heartbeats
5. Dizziness

Certain diseases can cause Gastro-intestinal perforation, such as:
1. Appendicitis
2. Diverticulitis (A type of digestive disorder)
3. Stomach ulcer
4. Gallstones
5. Gallbladder infection
6. Inflammatory bowel diseases (inflammation in the small intestine and the colon)
7. Swollen Meckel’s diverticulum (abnormal bulging of the small intestine at birth)
8. Gastrointestinal tract cancer

Besides diseases, the following conditions can also lead to Gastro-intestinal perforation:
1. Blunt abdominal trauma
2. Gunshot or knife wound to the abdomen
3. Abdominal surgery
4. Stomach ulcers caused by excessive consumption of steroids, anti-inflammatory drugs and aspirin
5. Ingestion of caustic substances or foreign objects
Other than these, drinking alcohol, smoking and bowel injuries (caused by colonoscopy or endoscopy) can lead to GP as well.

Treatment options available
This condition is mostly treated with surgery. The goal of the surgery is to repair the anatomical problem and cause of peritonitis, along with removal of any foreign object in the abdominal socket, such as food, faeces and bile. However, if your doctor deems surgery unnecessary (in instances where the hole closes voluntarily) you will be only given antibiotics.
In some cases, a section of the intestine might need to be removed. An ileostomy or colostomy is performed where a portion of the large or small intestine is removed, which grants intestinal contents to empty or drain into a bag implanted on the wall of your abdomen.

The complications include:
1. Bleeding
2. Sepsis (Critical and fatal bacterial infection)
3. Belly ulcers
4. Wound infection
5. Bowel infarction (impaired supply of blood to the bowels)
6. Permanent colostomy or ileostomy

Good question. Hair loss is a complex issue with genetic, environmental, diet, lifestyle etc playing a part. It is a trait like hairy chest, bat ears, long limbs etc which are part of an individual's constitution. Bald head does not signify anything though it is common in older men. Some women also go bald. There is no direct relation to hormonal levels of testosterone etc.

Hi lybrate-user, Reduce anxiety in social situations. As this may increase the stammering. A speech therapist may help you in speaking slowly and with more deliberation. It may reduce over time with practice of reducing anxiety and being prepared for situations where you are required to speak in conferences etc. Keep rehearsing.
